Purpose
This document is for Microsoft Certified Trainers (MCTs) who are preparing to teach either:
These courses provide foundational level knowledge on cloud concepts; core Azure services;
security, privacy, compliance, and trust; and Azure pricing and support.
AZ-900T01: The one-day version of this course does not provide an Azure pass or time for
students to participate in hands-on labs during the course. Students can obtain an Azure free
trial and do the walkthroughs after class. This course is primarily lecture and instructor
demonstrations.
AZ-900T00: The two-day version of this course provides an Azure pass. Students will have time
to participate in trainer-directed hands-on labs during the course.
Audience
The audience for these courses is just beginning to learn about cloud computing and how
Microsoft Azure provides that service. The courses are suitable for non-technical and technical
students, who are involved with cloud services and need an overview of Azure products and
services.
AZ-900T01 (one day): This course is more suitable for program managers and technical sales,
with a general IT background. These students want to learn about our offerings, see how
components are implemented, and ask questions about products and features. This course does
not provide an Azure pass or time in the classroom for students to do any hands-on activities.
Students can get a free trial and do the walkthroughs outside of class. There is a lot of material
to choose from, based on the student’s interests. This course is primarily lecture and
demonstrations. This course will help prepare someone for the AZ-900 exam.
AZ-900T00 (two day): This course is more suitable for IT personnel who are just beginning to
work with Azure. This audience wants to learn about our offerings and get hands-on experience
with the product. This course primarily uses the Azure portal to create services and does not
require scripting skills. Students in this course will gain confidence to take other role-based
courses and certifications, such as Azure Administrator. This course provides an Azure pass and
Trainer Preparation Guide: AZ-900T0x: Microsoft Azure Fundamentals 2
optional lab environment. This course combines lecture, demonstrations, and hands-on labs.
This course will also help prepare someone for the AZ-900 exam.
Note: To pass the certification test, studying outside the course may be required to ensure all
the concepts are fully understood.
Certification exam
Both courses are intended to prepare students for the AZ-900: Microsoft Azure Fundamentals
exam.
This exam has four study areas. Each study area has a percentage indicating the relative weight
of the exam area. The higher the percentage, the more questions students are likely to see in
that area.
✔️ This exam is not a prerequisite for any other exam. It is a standalone exam offering.
Student Prerequisites
There are no prerequisites for taking this course. However, the more technical knowledge a
student has the more they will understand about the cloud. Before class you might suggest
students:
Course Design
Each course is organized into four modules each module supporting an exam study area.
• Module 01 – Cloud concepts
Trainer Preparation Guide: AZ-900T0x: Microsoft Azure Fundamentals 3
✔️ With the exception of the Azure pass, the content in these courses is identical.

Walkthroughs
In this course, there are many walkthroughs; step-by-step guides for completing a task in Azure.
• You will need to decide which walkthroughs to use in class. The walkthroughs could be
demonstrations or hands-on labs (two-day course). Make your decision based on the
audience’s interests.
• Each walkthrough is divided into tasks. This table provides an estimated time for a
student new to Azure. You can expect half that time for an experienced instructor doing
a demonstration. These are estimates, your experience may be different.
• Since this is a Fundamentals course, most of the walkthroughs are accomplished in the
Azure portal.
• Each walkthrough creates a new resource group and ends with the resource group being
deleted. This is to minimize cost.
• Each walkthrough uses the (US) East location. If you would like your students to use a
different location, you can provide that information in Module 00.
• For the two-day course, an Azure pass will be provided.
• A virtual machine lab environment is not needed. If a student can connect to Azure and
has a subscription, they should be able to complete the labs.
• The walkthrough instructions are posted in a Microsoft Learning GitHub. There are no
scripts or templates, just lab instructions.
• The student Skillpipe content and instructor labs only list the tasks. The detailed steps
are in the GitHub.
Module review questions are provided at the end of each module. You might want to add
questions of your own. You can use these review questions in several ways:
• Have the student’s pre-test before the course starts, and then at the end of the course
show what they have learned.
• As a group, go through the questions before moving on to another module.
• Intersperse the questions into the content as you cover the applicable material.
Reference links
The course content includes many reference links. We recommend you use these links to
provide additional detail not included in the content, and to ensure the content is up to date.
The Azure documentation is constantly being updated. Pay attention to new capabilities and
changing product limits.
Course timing
While the content for these courses should not be particularly challenging, delivering the one-
day course in the time provided will likely be the biggest challenge you have. Remember you
have discretion and flexibility to decide which Azure features to show. Use this freedom to
quicken or slow the course pace as you need. Also, based on the students’ experience, you
might be able to skip over or quickly go through certain topics or areas. For students who are
going on to the exam, consider the percentage of questions in each area and spend more time
in those modules.
Resources
There are a lot of resources to help you and the students learn about Azure. We recommend
you bookmark these pages and offer the list to your students.
• Microsoft Learn. Microsoft Learn offers a free Azure Fundamentals learning path. The
path includes sandbox exercises for hands-on experience.
• Azure forums. The Azure forums are very active. You can search the threads for a
specific area of interest. You can also browse categories such as Azure storage, pricing
and billing, Azure VMs, and Azure Migrate.
• Azure Friday. Join Scott Hanselman as he engages one-on-one with the engineers who
build the services that power Azure as they demo capabilities, answer Scott's questions,
and share their insights.
• Microsoft Azure Blog. Keep current on what's happening in Azure, including what's in
preview, what’s generally available, and news and updates.
Take the time to connect with others and share teaching experiences.
• MCT Central – Your one stop for all things MCT. Stay up to date with the latest MCT
news, learn about upcoming events, find job opportunities, or connect with other MCTs
around the world. You can also ask questions and discuss a variety of topics including
courseware and certification with Microsoft through the MCT central forums.
• MOC Courseware Support – If there are problems with a course or you need to log a
support ticket, contact the Official Support channel for MOC courses. This channel is
monitored by support agents and is the quickest way to log your course support issue. It
is the official support channel for courseware.
