Chapter 8: Interviews

Interview – interaction between two or more people


(interviewer and interviewee) for a specific purpose
• Purpose and nature – differs
OBJECTIVES
• To select a person for specific task
• To collect and exchange information
• To counsel people
TYPES
• Job – applicant’s abilities and experiences
• Persuasive – person’s needs and how the product or concept is able to
meet those needs
• Evaluation/Appraisal – feedback on employee’s performance
(strengths and weaknesses)
• Panel – each person uses his/her special knowledge in a job interview
• Information-seeking – to gain information about a person’s opinion
and attitudes towards a product
• Conflict resolution – to resolve conflict (bring two people with
opposing views together)
• Termination – reasons for terming employee’s job
• Exit – reasons for the employee to leave the organisation
• Counselling – when employee’s personal problems negatively affect
work performance
• Disciplinary – to correct employee’s behaviour
