EXPOSITION OF THE BLESSED SACRAMENT
The presider places the host in the monstrance. If situation permits, the Blessed Sacrament
may be carried in a procession from the Adoration Chapel to the Altar while an appropriate
hymn is sung.

INCENSATION
After placing incense in the censer, the presider kneels and incenses the Blessed Sacrament.

1
INVITATION TO PRAISE
Presider:

Let us bless our heavenly Father, source of every gift.

R: Glory and praise to you forever.
A few moment of silent adoration.

Presider:

Let us bless Christ Jesus, wellspring of every blessing.

R: Glory and praise to you forever.
A few moment of silent adoration.

Presider:

Let us bless the Holy Spirit, Lord and giver of life.

R: Glory and praise to you forever.
A few moment of silent adoration.

The presider may give an introductory statement to the celebration.

Presider:

Sisters and brothers, the love for Jesus in the Eucharist motivates
and sustains holy vocations in the whole Church. Vocations to the
priesthood and the consecrated life, as well as to other ministries and
services in the Church, find inspiration and nourishment in the Most
Holy Sacrament to completely dedicate oneself to Christ, the Divine
Shepherd. “From the Eucharist, moreover, it draws encouragement
and strength to be a sign, in our own times too, of God’s gracious
and fruitful love for humanity.” (Sacramentum Caritatis, 81)
In this moment of Adoration, let us beg the Eucharistic Lord, our
Good Shepherd, for holy vocations for the priesthood, religious and
missionary life.
2
SILENT ADORATION AND PRAYER

OPENING PRAYER
All will stand. The presider will lead the opening prayer from his chair.

Let us pray.
O God, who willed to provide shepherds for your people,
pour out in your Church a spirit of piety and fortitude,
to raise up worthy ministers for your people
and make them ardent yet gentle heralds of your Gospel.
Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,
who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
God, for ever and ever.
R. Amen.

LITURGY OF THE WORD

FIRST READING Jeremiah 3, 11-15

I will appoint for you shepherds after my own heart

A reading from the book of the prophet Jeremiah.

Then the LORD said to me: Rebel Israel is more just than traitor
Judah. Go, proclaim these words toward the north, and say:
Return, rebel Israel—declares the LORD—
I will not remain angry with you;
For I am merciful, declares the LORD,
I will not keep my anger forever.
Only admit your guilt:
how you have rebelled against the LORD, your God,
How you ran here and there to strangers
under every green tree
and would not listen to my voice— declares the LORD.
Return, rebellious children— declares the LORD —
for I am your master;
I will take you, one from a city, two from a clan,
and bring you to Zion.
I will appoint for you shepherds after my own heart,
who will shepherd you wisely and prudently.

The word of the Lord.

R. Thanks be to God.

4
RESPONSORIAL PSALM (23, 1-3a. 3b-4. 5. 6.)

R. The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not want.

The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not want.
He makes me lie down in green pastures;
he leads me beside still waters;
he restores my soul.
R. The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not want.
He leads me in right paths for his name's sake.
Even though I walk through the darkest valley,
I fear no evil; for you are with me;
your rod and your staff – they comfort me.
R. The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not want.
You prepare a table before me
in the presence of my enemies;
you anoint my head with oil;
my cup overflows.
R. The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not want.
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me
all the days of my life,
and I shall dwell in the house of the LORD
my whole life long.
R. The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not want.

SILENCE
A few moments of silence will be observed to reflect and savor the Word of the Lord.

5
GOSPEL ACCLAMATION John 10, 14
Alleluia, alleluia.
I am the good shepherd, says the Lord;
I know my sheep, and mine know me.
Alleluia, alleluia.

GOSPEL Mark 6, 30-34

His heart was moved with pity for them, for they were like sheep without a shepherd

✠ A reading from the holy Gospel according to Mark.

The Apostles gathered together with Jesus

and reported all they had done and taught.
He said to them,
“Come away by yourselves to a deserted place and rest a while.”
People were coming and going in great numbers,
and they had no opportunity even to eat.
So they went off in the boat by themselves to a deserted place.
People saw them leaving and many came to know about it.
They hastened there on foot from all the towns
and arrived at the place before them.

When Jesus disembarked and saw the vast crowd,

his heart was moved with pity for them,
for they were like sheep without a shepherd;
and he began to teach them many things.

The Gospel of the Lord.

R. Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ.

6
ALLOCUTION
The presider may give a reflection. Otherwise, a moment of silence may be observed while an
appropriate hymn may be sung.

PRAYERS OF THE FAITHFUL

Presider:

Let us pray to the Father that we may become true witnesses of

his unconditional love and care by listening intently to the voice of
Jesus, our Good Shepherd. With faith and confidence, we pray:
LORD, HEAR OUR PRAYER
For the shepherds of the Church—His Holiness Pope Francis, all
bishops, priests, deacons, and lay leaders: may they be shepherds after
Jesus’ own heart, protecting God’s people and leading them to the
fullness of life, we pray. R.
For those who have consecrated their lives to the Lord: may they go
out into the world and become, through their selfless service,
shepherds in a special way to the Lord’s flock, we pray. R.
For priests and consecrated persons who continue to suffer
persecution on account of their faith and their advocacies for justice,
that they may be granted holy joy that will see them through the dark
nights of suffering, we pray: R.
For all married couples, may they imitate the love of the Good
Shepherd for His flock to love, forgive, and selflessly give their life to
one another and to their family, we pray. R.
For those who have committed to a life of single-blessedness, may they
have the courage to live a holy life and the strength to become stewards
of the Good Shepherd, we pray. R.
For all the young and those who are discerning their call to holiness,
grant them the willingness and generosity to give of themselves, their
lives, time, and talents to the mission of the Good Shepherd, we pray.
R.

7
For government officials and civil leaders: may they follow the
example of Jesus, God’s humble servant, who stoops down to serve
and ministers to the people’s needs, we pray. R.
Let us pray in silence for our personal intentions. We pray. R.

OUR FATHER
Presider:

That we may be to our brothers and sisters

the revelation of our Father’s love and faithfulness
and of justice and peace on earth,
let us cry out to Him using the words of our Good Shepherd.
The Lord’s Prayer may be sung.

CONCLUDING PRAYER
Presider:

Let us pray.
Loving Father, hear the prayers of your people.
As we follow your Son, our Good Shepherd,
fill us with your graciousness and mercy.
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
