Thousands of people in the Philippines have suffered lasting physical, emotional, and

economic harm from President Rodrigo Duterte's abusive "war on drugs". The war on
drugs has been a very often discussed topic due to many controversial issues. Some
people believe the War on Drugs has been quite successful due to the amount of drugs
seized and the amount of drug kingpins arrested. I believe this to be the wrong mindset
when it comes to the war on drugs. The war on drugs isn’t a winnable one so we must
do all that is possible to assist those who struggle with drug addiction and decriminalize
small amounts of drugs. These minor changes in the way we combat drugs will create
significant change and have lasting effects.
We can all agree that drug abuse is horrible. There’s the addiction, dependency, social
isolation, crippling finances, potential overdose, and worsened mental illness; All awful
things. But the Philippines' approach to dealing with these problems is arguably just as
awful.

In the documentary called “Inside the World's Toughest Prison” prisoners are asked to
tell their stories. It's widely assumed that Filipino police are required to make a certain
number of drug arrests every day, causing corrupt officers to frame or set up innocent
people.” They set up innocent people by planting meths or other drugs and make them
confess even though it’s not theirs. The 48-page report, "'Our Happy Family Is Gone':
Impact of the 'War on Drugs' on Children in the Philippines," details the plight of children
whose parents or guardians have been killed. Many children have suffered
psychological distress, and all experienced economic hardship made worse by the
death of a family breadwinner. The increased poverty and trauma have led many
children to leave school or compelled them to work. Some children who lost a family
member have faced bullying in their school and community. Some were forced to live on
the streets. Because of the war on drugs, many people were affected. Numbers of
innocent people are being killed. It is just sad how some of those innocent lives did not
get any justice because of our governance.

War on drugs should be stopped. It has ruined lives of hundreds of innocent people
without proper justice and procedures. Yes, it lessened the crimes in the country. But do
we have to get blood on our hands, to ensure safety? Were those people really the
main suspects? The root of all evil? No! They are just citizens of the Philippines.
Deprived with their rights. Human rights. Killing others makes us less human. So let's
end this war, before we become monsters that we fear.
