SCI-MATH FESTIVAL 2023

Theme: "Exploring Excellence: Pioneering Innovation in Science and Mathematics".

SCIENTIST/MATHEMATICIAN PORTRAYAL
Mechanics:
 The contest is open to all students of FHABCI. 1 representative in each section.
 The participants shall portray Scientist/Mathematician who had great
contributions in the field of science or mathematics.
 Costumes and props are required but participants are discouraged to rent
costumes and are urged to create DIY costumes using any resources available
at home.
 Each participant should submit a picture of the Scientist/Mathematician that
he/she wish to portray.
 WALA dapat magkapareha nga scientist or mathematician sa kada section.
Dapat lahi-lahi.
 The picture submitted should contain the following information:
1. Name of participant
2. Name of Scientist/Mathematician and its contribution in the field of
science or mathematics.

Criteria:

Poster/Slogan Making Contest


The poster/slogan will be judged according to the following

 Relevance to the theme - 30%


 Originality – 20%
 Creativity – 20%
 Color harmony – 15%
 Visual impact – 15%
Guidelines
 Each section must have 2 participants.
 Each section must bring their own art materials.
 No cellphones allowed.
 The contest is open to all Junior and Senior High School students should be original piece.
 There will be (3) winners for the contest:1stPlace, 2ndPlace, 3rdPlace, and then consolation
points.
 The poster must illustrate, interpret and emphasize the theme.

SCI-MATH JINGLE CONTEST


Mechanics

 Each section shall have at least 10-15 participants.


 The theme of the contest shall be “Exploring Excellence: Pioneering Innovation in
Science and Mathematics”.
Song entries must:

 be lively appealing, creative, and must bear the theme, “Exploring Excellence:
Pioneering Innovation in Science and Mathematics”.
 be entirely original and must not have been used as entry in any other competitors. No
part of the lyrics can be copied from lines of other songs, or infringe any existing
copyright and any other intellectual property rights.
 be at least two (2) minutes but must not exceed three (3) minutes including the intro
and extro.
 not contain any indecent, rude, or offensive words; and,
 be performed live at the auditorium.
 Jingle entries must be written and interpreted in a popular or new song genre or a
fusion thereof, in any form or structure.
 Lyrics must be English.
 Introduction and explanation of the song as part of the entry is not necessary.
 Participants must bring musical instruments or submit audio file for the minus one
bearing the song title.
 There shall be three (3) winners: 2nd runner-up, 1st runner-up, and champion who will
receive certificates.
Criteria for Judging

 Musical Content (40%). Catchy melody, lively music, and recall.


 Lyric Content (30%). Coherence, ingenuity, and relevance to the theme.
 Creativity (20%). Fresh sound, unique approach to jingle writing, use of structure,
instruments, and vocals.
 Audience impact (10%). Overall effect and impact on the audience.

SUDOKU
Mechanics:

 Each section will choose 1 representative to solve the puzzle.


 Each of them will bring their own pencil and eraser. Ballpens are not allowed.
 Participants have only 1 hour to solve the puzzle. After an hour, their answers shall be
collected by the facilitator, finish or not finish.
 Participants are allowed to submit their answers even if there is still time remaining. The
facilitator will indicate the time consumed by participants in solving the puzzle.
 You can use only numbers from 1 to 9.
 Each 3x3 block can only contain numbers from 1 to 9.
 Each vertical column can only contain numbers from 1 to 9.
 Each horizontal row can only contain numbers from 1 to 9.
 Each number in the 3x3 block, vertical column or horizontal row can be used only once.
 The game is over when the whole Sudoku grid is correctly filled with numbers.

QUIZ BEE
Mechanics:

 Each section will bring 1/8 illustration board and chalk.


 The quiz will consist of 3 rounds – easy, moderate, and difficult.
SPEED STACK

 Each section must have one participants only


 Player have a minute to stack 10 cups in a pyramid, take them down in a diagonal
position, and then reverse. Stack them back to the starting position.

MICROSCOPE FOCUSING

 Each section must have one participant only.


 The participant should bring their own phone.

TOWER OF HANOI

 Each section must have one participant only.


 Only one disk be move one at a time.
 No larger disk may be placed on top of a smaller disk.

FOR SCI-MATH TRAIL ACTIVITIES:


FROG RACING

 The participants in each section must bring their own frog.


 The participants have to put the frog in the starting line, then make strategies that will
make a frog jump to the finish line without touching it.

NEEDLE FLOATING

 The participants in each section must bring their own needle (small).
 The participants should make the needle float in 3 seconds.

THE BOAT IS SINKING

 The participants must provide their own foil and coins (no limit of coins as long as it is a peso
coin).
 The participants must make their boat in the game station. Once the participants done in
making their boat, they will place it in the water and put some amount of money in the boat.
Make sure the boat will not sink in the water. Once the boat is sinking the facilitators will count
the number of coins they put.
Each section should bring the following:

*SLOGAN AND POSTER MAKING


- ¼ illustration board (1 for slogan and 1 for poster making)
- Crayons
- Pencil
- Filthy pen

*QUIZ BEE
- 1/8 illustration board
- chalk

*FROG RACING
- Frog

*VOLCANO MAKING materials

*THE BOAT IS SINKING

Human Damath

Instructions:

1. for the human damath, every piece has a corresponding number

2. each player is allocated a minute for them to make a move

3. a record of every move is made

4. the mathematical operation used is dependent on where the players chip lands after the capture
5. the following instances lead to game over: when 20 minutes gameplay lapses. The player resigns. The
player has no more pieces. There are repetitive moves. The last opponent piece is concerned.

6. the final score is determined by adding all the value of the remaining pieces against the score
obtained from capturing the opponent chip.

7. the one with the highest score on the human damath scoresheet becomes the winner.

Ping Pong Balls On the Balancing Bottle


PLAYERS:

- 2 teams

* MATERIALS:

- 3 ping pong balls, a cutting bottle, and a bottle with 4 strings for each team

* DURATION OF PLAYING GAME: - No time limit

* HOW TO PLAY: - Each team has to put a ping pong ball on the bottle with 4 strings to bring to put in the
cutting bottle. - If any team can do first, that one will be the winner.

* 8 representative

Tangrams

1. When the pieces are arranged together they suggest an amazing variety of forms, embodying
many numerical and geometric concepts.

2. Whenever you solve a tangram puzzle, your job is to use all seven pieces to form
the shape. They should fit together like puzzle pieces, sitting flat on the table; no
overlapping of the pieces is allowed.

3.You can trace around your solutions to remember what you have done and to have a
record of your work.

Length and width

1. Use to measurement or extent of something from one end to another.

2. Measurement of Length and width used to determine of any object with the
help of measuring tools.

3. measured in units like meters, centimeters, kilometers, inches, etc.

Tangrams

1. simple set of seven geometric shapes made up of five triangles (two small triangles,
one medium triangle, and two large triangles), a square, and a parallelogram.

2. improve problem-solving, logical thinking abilities, perceptual reasoning, visual-


spatial awareness, and creativity.

3. to solve puzzles that need all seven pieces to be utilized to form a specific shape.

Tic-Tac-Toe

1. Tic-tac-toe is a fun game that you can play any time and anywhere as long
as you have a piece of paper, a pencil, and an opponent.

2. Tic-tac-toe is a zero-sum game, which means that if both players are


playing their best, then neither player will win.

3.However, if you learn how to play tic-tac-toe and master some simple
strategies, then you'll be able to not only play but win the majority of the
time.

Math Bingo

 Each player has a board consisting of a three-by-three grid.


 Write a number between 1 and 12 in each field.
 Throw 2 dice by turn. Each player chooses whether to add or subtract the
numbers.
 Place a piece of choice on the number you get. If you do not have the number,
the turn moves to the next player.
 The first player to get 3 pieces in a row has BINGO.
