Lesson Draw inferences based on data presented
in a line graph

What’s In

Various information can be relayed, managed and organized into visual

presentations that can be easily understood by different groups and or individual users. One
of these are graphical presentation charts which provide you a picture of a particular situation
represented the given data. This helps you interpret the possible outcomes or forecasts. This
data is very important in decision-making and in solving real-life situations.

What I Need to Know

After studying this lesson, you should be able to infer data in a line graph.

What’s New

A line graph is a type of chart which shows information or value of something

over a period of time. It has vertical (Y – axis) and horizontal (X –axis) which serve as
guides in plotting the points for the lines. These Y axis represents an increasing value
of variables which may be money, scores, number of something like people, animals
and plants. The X axis holds the end-lines of the line segment created by these
variables relate to each other.
We use line graphs to compare trends of changes over a period of time for more
than one group

Study the Table below then answer the questions that follow.
Mark’s Daily Expenses in School
Day Expenses

Using the information in the given table of Mark’s daily expenses in school,
we will plot the information given and create a line graph.

5. Why do you think he spent more on Thursday

Check your responses from the Key Answer page. Did you get the right
answers? Well and good!

What I Have Learned

A line graph is a type of chart which shows information or value of

something over a period of time. It has vertical (Y – axis) and horizontal (X –
axis) which serve as guides in plotting the points for the lines. These Y axis
represents an increasing value of variables (money, scores, number of something
like people, animals and plants). The X axis holds the other end-lines of the line
segments created by these variables and are directly related to each other.
A line graph is a type of chartwhich displays information as a series of
data points called ‘markers ‘connected bystraight line segments. It helps us
visualize the picture of a certain information in one glance.
