Padmakanya Multiple Campus (PKMC) is offering Bachelor of Hotel Management (BHM Program) from 2076
(2019) under the approval of the Faculty Board-Faculty of Management (FoM) and Academic Council, Tribhuvan
University (TU). The aim of the program is to provide academic knowledge integrating professional soft skills,
managerial aptitudes, practical intuitions, entrepreneurial approaches and ICT proficiencies to the students for
nurturing them prepared to work in the hospitality and tourism industry.

The students get knowledge and insights of modern education combining cultural roots practicing the culture of
"Atithi Devo Bhava" meaning "Guests are equivalent to Gods" in the hospitality industry. We focus on value-
based and ethically guided education blended in applied theoretical and practical knowledge on management,
hospitality and tourism industry to prepare responsible professionals required for the industry. This program
connects you to academic and hospitality networks of the ever expanding industry in the age of globalization and
information technology.

We offer platform for dreamers to transform themselves into hospitality and tourism leaders. Our moderators
comprise of industry enthusiasts, hospitality experts and academic leaders. Therefore, we invite you to get

Bachelor of Hotel Management (BHM Program) extends warm invitation for all the prospective students to enroll
at Padma Kanya Multiple Campus (PKMC) and secure your esteemed career in hospitality and tourism industry.
This applied course avenues for earning oriented learning by associating students to partner hotels through "Learn
and Earn Scheme". The students get opportunities for classroom inculcated pragmatic learning, on campus
hospitality labs and model hotel incubated applied insights, experience-based industry exposures and internship at
acclaimed hotels during their academic journey. Internship scholarship is our pioneer grant scheme initiated to
financially support the abroad placement of students to join their hospitality apprenticeship.

Introduction

Padma Kanya Multiple Campus (PKMC) is an autonomous constituent campus of Tribhuvan University. PKMC
was established in 1951(Aswin 2008 B.S.) as first women's campus of Nepal. PKMC offers University degrees in
Humanities and Social Sciences, Management and Science faculties. 'Quality Education for Women
Empowerment' is the motto of the Campus.

PKMC has been imparting education to female students from Nepal, India, Sri-Lanka, Korea and many other
countries. Students come from diverse geographical locations and socio-cultural clusters of nation and abroad.
PKMC is spread in an area of 37-4-3-3 Ropani land in Bagbazar, Kathmandu. The Campus has five buildings for
academic, administrative and residential utilization—Ratnadeep Bhavan and Maitri Bhavan have classrooms,
administrative facilities, computer laboratory, Seminar Hall and Campus Auditorium; Library Bhavan has
physical and e-library facility; Pragya Hostel offers residential accommodation facility for 200 students; BHM
Block for Bachelor of Hotel Management classes, Food Production and Patisserie Lab, Food and Beverage
Service Incubation Lab, PKMC Training Restaurant, Hotel Suite Room for House Keeping and Front Office Lab;
Pre-fab Building, etc.

The Campus offers Bachelor and Master level programs of Tribhuvan University. The Bachelor level programs—
BA, BCA, BPSG (PKMC Autonomous Program) BBS, BBA, BBM, BHM, BSc., BSc.CSIT, BIT, BSc-
Environmental Science, and BSc.-Microbiology, BSc. Physics; and Master level programs (MA)—Nepali,
English, Rural Development, Sociology, Population Studies, Economics, Dance, Psychology, Political Science,
MBS, MBM, MIT). Some of the academic programs of PKMC are supported by the university and some are self-
funded for the sustainability of the Campus. The current self-sustainable programs are BPSG (PKMC
Autonomous Program), BCA; BBA, BBM, BHM; BSc.CSIT, BIT; MIT and MBM.

PKMC has state of art Hotel Management Labs—Food Production and Patisserie Lab, Food and Beverage Service
Lab named as PKMC Training Restaurant and Bar, Model Hotel for giving professional soft skills of hospitality
industry.

Food Production and Patisserie Lab

PKMC Food Production and Patisserie Lab supports basic, specialized and advanced kitchen which is fully
equipped with advanced modern equipment. The students are trained to prepare national and international cuisines
—Nepali, Indian, Continental, Italian, Mexican, Chinese, Thai, Japanese, Mediterranean, Middle Eastern,
American; Molecular Gastronomy; Fast Foods and Breakfasts. The Food Production faculty and hotel industry
professional Chef impart instructions on authentic cuisine protocols, preparations, and presentations.

Food and Beverage Service Lab

BHM Program has Food and Beverage Service Lab to train the students with professional service skills required
for their employment and career opportunities. Food and Beverage Service Lab is named as PKMC Training
Restaurant which has a cozy Bar and Barista. The Food and Beverage Service faculties provide instructions and
grooming guidance on appropriate hospitality industry service skills and knowledge. The students are given
authentic exposures to State Banquet, Meetings, Conferences, Seminars, service protocols inviting national and
international delegates. Besides food service, the students learn service techniques and mixology—alcoholic and
non-alcoholic; wine tasting; tea and coffee.

PKMC BHM Program has a model hotel housekeeping mock-up room room in the form of Hotel Suite to provide
trainings and practical instructions on house keeping. The BHM Program also has a front office and lobby for
polishing the industry related soft skills of the students.

Food Science and Nutrition Lab

PKMC has a separately managed Food Science and Nutrition Lab where students get practical trainings and
instructions from Food Science and Nutrition experts. The Lab is well equipped with necessary equipment to
provide applied knowledge of Food, Nutritional Ingredients, Food Microbiology, Food Contamination, Food
Hygiene and Safety, and Management System. PKMC BHM program has an honor to host Food Science and
Nutrition practical sessions independently at the Central Department of Home Science, Food and Nutrition
Department located in PKMC Ratnadeep Bhavan, managed, operated and upgraded since more than three
decades.

Hospitality Excursions, Hotel Visits and Field Trips

PKMC regularly organizes hospitality excursions, hotel visit programs and field trips for the students of BHM to
develop their understanding of hospitality exposures, fine dining in the real world through an immersive
experience at star hotels and hospitality chains in Nepal and abroad. Before the hospitality excursions, hotel visits,
flight catering visit and field trips the students are given specialized instructions for familiarizing them with the
establishments for achieving targeted objectives.

Internship Placement

The BHM students have to participate at a year long internship placement at hospitality industry in their seventh
(7th) and eighth (8th) semesters to fulfill the academic requirements of BHM degree. PKMC provides internship
opportunities for the students of BHM after they complete six semesters (three years) of on campus academic
studies. The internship placement would allow the students to access the future prospective employment
opportunities through trainings and professional exposures at the global hospitality industry. The PKMC offers
internship placement at the hospitality partner industries located in Nepal and abroad. The PKMC BHM students
would get internship opportunities in wide range of national leading hotels and international destinations.

The students receive trainee and other positions during the internship period and are offered basic stipendiums
along with lodging and food allowances or facilities. After the graduation they would get an opportunity to
convert their internship into job as the internship period is at the final fourth year of their studies. This itself is a
great leap for employment opportunities.

PKMC offers different Scholarship Schemes to students enrolled at BHM program who have proven academic
records based on merit; needy and deserving students coming from marginalized and ethnic minority groups with
weaker financial status. PKMC BHM offers various scholarships to promote women education and empower them
to enter the hospitality industry. The scholarship program is open to all female students enrolled in the Bachelor of
Hotel Management program at Padma Kanya Multiple Campus, Tribhuvan University. The scholarship schemes

Teaching Methodology

The Campus implements natural-critical pedagogy that adopts participatory approaches where the notions of
knower and know-not, knowledge giver and receiver—teacher and student—end and both the parties through
mutual participation—lectures, quizzes, questions, discussions, presentations, field works, field visits, internships,
deliberations, researches, inquiries, practical learning, etc. Similarly, PKMC is committed to following set
academic calendar. Furthermore, PKMC faculties have developed expertise through trainings, exposures, research
opportunities, ICT exposures for providing quality education for the students.

PKMC standardizes teaching- learning through directed studies, assignments, case studies, workshops, seminars,
presentations, internship reports, project works, etc. These andragogical methodologies have effectively
contributed in preparing the human resource suitable for the current market demands of the global world.

Research and Extension

Higher education is more about the creation of knowledge through research than the accumulation of information
from the existing body of knowledge. Considering the inevitability of research for knowledge generation and
creation, higher academic institutions focus more on research than only on teaching and learning practices.
Therefore, PKMC has focused on research activities of the students and teachers. In all the courses including
BHM, students make field visits, collect data, produce reports, prepare projects, cases studies, and publish
research based articles. PKMC monitors and manages research activities through Research Management Cell
(RMC).

Besides research PKMC also organizes various extension activities like community development, disaster
management training, health and hygiene awareness and blood donation camps regularly. The goal of such events
is to engage students, staff and faculties in the society. The act of incorporating extension activities in the regular
procedure of teaching-learning connects the Campus with different communities and cultures of the country. It
helps the students practice their learnt knowledge in the real world. Both the students and faculties participate in
extension activities voluntarily.

Accommodation (Hostel)

The campus also has a separate hostel building for providing accommodation to 200 students who come to
Kathmandu from other parts of the country for higher studies and get enrolled at PKMC. All essential facilities are
provided to the students along with standard accommodation and hygienic food at an affordable price. The hostel
students, however, must abide by strict rules that is regulated by the experienced female hostel warden.

Parking
The campus has spacious parking area for cars, scooters, motorcycles and bi-cycles.

Cafeteria

PKMC has a cafeteria that provides hygienic and healthy food at reasonable price. The cafeteria is clean and well-
furnished and spaciously furnished.

Library

The campus has a separate library building which ensures the availability of text books, reference books, journals,
newspapers and other materials required for higher education. The campus has also managed an e-library facility
equipped with highspeed internet connected computers to fulfill the growing use of digital resource databases and
digital library catalogues. The students have opportunity to access the available materials on their own for
expanding their horizon of knowledge.

Extra-Curricular Activities

PKMC organizes Extra Curricular Activities (ECA) for all the students enrolled at the Campus. The ECA includes
sports—basketball, volleyball, badminton and table tennis; literary programs—poetry writing and recitation
competitions, debate competitions, essay writing competitions, quiz contests; cultural dance competitions, singing
competitions; beauty peasants, talent shows within or outside the campus premises. PKMC also organizes
Fresher's Program for all newly enrolled students and awards different titles—Miss Fresher, Miss Confidence,
Miss Walk, etc. The campus also organizes welcome programs for new comers and farewell programs for
graduates who complete their studies. Similarly, the Campus encourages students to organize theme based and
curriculum required events for practically understanding courses of similar objectives.

The Campus also has on Campus HULT and other clubs along with Students Quality Circle for providing
leadership and entrepreneurship skills to the students studying at PKMC.

ICT Lab

PKMC has state of the art facility ICT lab within the Campus premises. The Campus offers practical classes of
ICT based courses by taking the students to the practical ICT labs in the prescribed schedules of the programs.
There are three ICT Labs equipped with more than 150 computers with appropriate softwares and internet
connectivity.

BHM Admission Procedure


Eligibility for Admission
The candidates applying for admission to BHM program must have:

 Successfully completed twelve-year schooling or its equivalent from any university, board or institution
recognized by Tribhuvan University;
 Minimum D grade in each subject of grade 11 and 12 with CGPA 1.80 or more / Minimum D+ grade in
each subject of grade 11 and 12 with CGPA 1.80 or more who passed in 2078 or before 2078 / Secured at
least second division in the 10+2, PCL or equivalent program;
 Complied with all the application procedure.
Admission Criteria

Written Test
Eligible applicants are required to appear in the entrance test commonly known as Central Management
Admission Test (CMAT) conducted by the Faculty of Management. The test will follow the international testing
pattern and standards.
It includes the areas like:
Verbal ability
Quantitative ability
Logical reasoning
General awareness

There shall be altogether one hundred (100) objective questions in the CMAT containing twenty (25) questions in
each section with a total weight of 100 marks. Student must secure a minimum of 40% in the CMAT in order to
qualify for the interview.

Interview

Applicants securing above cut off point marks in the CMAT will be short-listed. Only short listed candidates will
be interviewed and selected for admission.

Program Overview

Bachelor of Hotel Management (BHM) program, under the Faculty of Management (FoM), Tribhuvan University
(TU), is an academic degree course offering professional and innovative curriculum prepared by academicians and
industry professionals incorporating foundational courses on management, hospitality, tourism and
entrepreneurship. BHM envisions to prepare skilled hospitality professionals, service industry practitioners,
business and event planners suitable for the market demands of the world. BHM is a professional skill oriented
course blending hospitality aptitudes, national and international industry exposures, business expertise, and
entrepreneurial mindset to lead and bring transformation in the hospitality industry while managing the hospitality
industry operations and guest service facilitations.

Program Objectives
The BHM program has been designed to prepare the students to enter the hospitality and tourism industry with
conceptual knowledge, practical intuitions, professional soft skills, entrepreneurial approaches, ICT and AI
orientations for the implementation of classical yet modern standards and bringing transformations to the industry
by overcoming the challenges and projecting the sustainable future of the industry. The BHM Program envisages
the following objectives:
 To provide comprehensive understanding of management, hospitality, tourism, leadership and
entrepreneurship;
 To prepare skilled hospitality professionals, service industry practitioners, business and event planners
suitable for the global market demands;
 To train students with necessary skills and practical insights required for various positions of hospitality
and tourism industry;
 To offer managerial skills required for professional operation of hospitality and tourism industry;
 To develop global experience through internships and industry exposures in the intercultural locations;
 To develop professional aptitudes and hospitality etiquettes for the transformation of the hospitality
industry with creative and critical insights in the age of ICT and AI.

Course Structure
The BHM program recognizes the knowledge and skills required for various jobs in the hotel and catering
industry. The program course structure is classified into four main components: the compulsory courses; the core
courses; industrial exposure and project work; and the elective courses.
 The Compulsory Courses are designed to provide the students with sound background for English,
Principles of Management, Economics, Financial Accounting, Sales and Marketing, Cost and Management
Accounting, Financial Management, Nepalese Society and Politics, Entrepreneurship, Statistics,
Organizational Behavior and Human Resource Management, Strategic Management, and Research
Methodology and Project Report.
 The Core Courses are focused on the functional areas of hotel operations and management. It includes
courses of Food Production Foundation, Food Production Operations, Food Production Management, Food
and Beverage Service Foundation, Bar and Beverage Service, Food and Beverage Management,
Housekeeping Operations, Front Office Operations, Hotel French, Food Science and Nutrition, Hotel
Engineering, E-Commerce for Hospitality, Event Management for Hospitality and Tourism, Legal
Environment for Hospitality, and Cultural Resources of Tourism in Nepal.
 Students are also required to study an Elective Specialized Course in one of the allied areas of the
Hospitality Management. The Elective course offered under the program includes Barista and Bartending,
Room Division Management, and Advance Food Production.
 Students are required to acquire actual work experience through two semesters of structured practical
training as Industrial Exposure in 7th and 8th semesters. The objective of the industrial exposure is to bridge
the gap between theoretical input and the real-life work experiences. In the seventh semester, students have
to engage in industrial exposure. Finally, in the eighth semester, students are required to engage in
industrial exposure and prepare an internship report and defend through viva-voce for graduation.

I would like to express my heartfelt appreciation to PKMC for the exceptional hospitality internship opportunity at
Dubai's prestigious hotel Hyatt Regency Dubai and Galleria. The international hospitality industry placement was
directly supported by the program and the Campus also offered internship scholarship with the total amount of Rs.
75,000/- (Nepali Rupees Seventy Five Thousands) for each students. This scholarship covered my airfare and
other logistics for my internship journey. I am delighted to share that PKMC is the only BHM offering institute in
Nepal that offers Internship Scholarship and direct placement in Nepal and abroad.
I will carry the lessons learned and the memories archived during this internship with me throughout my

I am thankful to PKMC for providing internship opportunity at the Lagoona Beach Resort Luxury Resort &
Spa, prestigious hotel of Bahrain. The hospitality industry abroad placement was directly coordinated by BHM
Program and financially supported through internship scholarship with the total amount of Rs. 75,000/- (Nepali
Rupees Seventy Five Thousands) for each students. PKMC is the pioneer BHM college in Nepal in offering
Internship Scholarship and direct placement in Nepal and abroad.
The chance to work in Bahrain has paved my career packaged with limitless hospitality exposures. The Campus
also provided professional English language course for shaping our language proficiency required in the industry,
which is not provided any other colleges in Nepal. PKMC being a governmental campus is able to provide various
