INTRODUCTION:
The rapid growth of artificial intelligence (AI) has introduced innovative tools and resources to increase the educational landscape. ChatGPT is a natural language processing tool driven by AI technology developed by OpenAI. It has the potential to enhance the quality of undergraduate student research. This research proposal aims to investigate the effects of ChatGPT on undergraduate student research.
With the help of ChatGPT, students can do data synthesis, information retrieval, critical thinking, etc. by conducting this study we will have the answers to all the questions that surround the use of ChatGPT in undergraduate research. Also shed light on its advantages, limitations and potential for enhancing the learning experience.
RESEARCH QUESTIONS:
My research will address the following research questions:
● How does the use of ChatGPT impact on the efficiency and the speed of research? ● What role does ChatGPT play in improving research skills? ● What is the view of the educators on the use of ChatGPT for research? ● Does ChatGPT help to influence the quality and depth of research? ● What are the challenges and the benefits of using ChatGPT from the students perspective?
HYPOTHESIS:
I am hypothesising that the use of ChatGPT in undergraduate research will increase the speed and efficiency of the research work. Next, it is to be expected that use of ChatGPT will be a great help for students to sharpen their research skills. Furthermore, I am assuming that educators will have a mixed opinion both good and bad. Additionally, I think that ChatGPT will positively help to influence the quality and depth of research. Lastly, the use of ChatGPT will for sure have its own challenges and benefits for the students.
RESEARCH METHODOLOGY:
This research will have a mixed method approach. Which will have document analysis and interviews. Students from various academic disciplines will be surveyed on the before and after using ChatGPT for their research. Also, there will be a comparison between those who use ChatGPT and those who don't. There will also be small interviews with educators and students to know about the experiences and perceptions.
ORGANISATION:
My paper will be organised into several sections, the most important of them are the introduction, background, data analysis, methodology, and a summary of findings.
