2 - Dad's Farm
Dad has a farm.

On his farm, dad has a dog.
The dog barks a lot at dad's farm.
Dad's farm has a big red barn.
A car and a cart are parked in the barn.

4 - Bob the Sheep
Bob the sheep fell fast asleep;
Fell fast asleep by the jeep.
Beep, beep, went the jeep;
Bob jumps up, and he cannot sleep.

5 - Betty
It is sunny and hot.

Betty feels sleepy from the heat.
She is asleep, and had a dream.

Betty dreamed that she had tea and jelly.
Betty's hands got yucky and messy.

Mom tells Betty to clean up.
1. Why was Betty sleepy?

5 - Jack
Jack be nimble;
Jack be quick;
Jack jump into the quiet street.
Jack yell;
Jack scream;
Jack just had a bad dream.
6 - Vicky Has a Fever
It is winter, and it is freezing.
Vicky is sick, and she has a very bad fever.
Vicky is shivering under her blankets.
Vicky's mom is very clever.
She heats up a big cup of hot chocolate for Vicky.
Vicky drinks the hot chocolate, and stops
shivering.

7 - My Family
This is my father. He is a surfer.
This is my mother. She is a smart banker.
This is my sister. She is a lot bigger than me.
This is me! I am just a small kid that can

read.
8 - The Little Rabbit
The little rabbit got hurt.

It hurt its leg.
I pick up the rabbit, and heal its leg.
I pat the rabbit softly.
Its fur is so soft.
9 - Tommy
Tommy has a sling shot.
A mocking bird lands on the tree.
The mocking bird is singing a song.
Tommy is being bad.
He flings a rock at the bird, but he missed.
Mommy sees it, and she gets upset at Tommy.
She asks Tommy to stop it.

1. Who does the sling shot belong to?
2. What landed on the tree?
3. Why was mommy upset at Tommy? or,
How was Tommy being bad?
10 - I Can Read
My mom teaches me to read.
I can read a lot.
I can read simple books.
I can't read big books yet, but
mommy is teaching me.
She sits by me and we read.
I get better and better at reading.
10 - My Lunch
Sitting on the bench;
I want to eat my lunch.
Munch, munch, munch;
The ants eat all my lunch.
I didn't get to eat my lunch;

And I am hungry.
The ants eat all my lunch;
And so I am angry.
12 - Little Fat Pig
I'm a little fat pig short and stout;
Here's my tail, and here's my snout.
When I get all hungry, hear me shout;
Squeeze my tail and watch me hop all about!
I'm a little fat pig short and stout;

When I'm hungry, I shout so loud.
Feed me some grub in my tub;
Grab a brush and give my back a scrub.
12 - Mouse in the House
There is a mouse in the house.
The mouse eats the cheese;
The mouse eats the corn.
There is a mouse in the house!
The mouse runs around in the house.

It messes up the carpet;
And dad cannot catch the mouse.
The mouse still runs around in the house!
Dad brings a cat in to the house;

The cat runs after the mouse;
They run around in the house;
The cat chases the mouse out of the house!

3. How did dad get rid of the mouse in the house?
13 - I am Fit
I am fit and I am strong;
I workout all day long.
I run, I jump, and I skip.

More, more, more!
I lift a barbell and I lift a dumbbell;

Sit ups, pushups, I do it all.
13 - Winter
Winter is here.
I wear a red jacket.
It keeps me warm in the winter.
I wear a green hat, and green mittens.
My hands are warm in my green mittens.

2. What else does the boy wear to keep warm in winter?
14 - Dishes
My family just finished dinner.

The dishes are dirty, and need to be
washed.
I will help mommy wash the dirty dishes.
We fill the sink with water.
Mommy washes the dishes, and I put the
dishes away.

2. What is the child helping mommy do after dinner?
3. Describe how they wash the dishes together.
16 - School is Starting
School is starting soon.
Sam went to school to meet his teacher.
She will teach him a lot of new things.
Sam got a new brown backpack for school.
In it, he put books and pens.
Sam put on his backpack and he is ready
for school.

2. What color is Sam's new backpack?
3. What did he put in his new backpack?
17 - Bobby's Quest
Bobby is on a quest.
He plans to plant many trees.
But Bobby needs help.
So he requested help from Tom.
Tom and Bobby planted many trees.

2. Why does Bobby need help?
3. Who helped Bobby plant the trees?
18 - Jack and Jill
Jack and Jill Went Up the Hill,
To fetch a pail of water.
Jack fell down, and broke his crown,
And Jill came tumbling after.
Jack got up,

And cried in pain;
And Jill said:
I'll never climb that hill again!

2. Why did they go up the hill?

19 - Zack the Wizard
Zack the wizard has strong magic.
Zack turns the lizard into a dog.
Zack turns the zebra into a duck.

20 - New Toy
Happy happy, joy joy;
I just got myself a new toy.
All year long, I've been a good boy;
And Santa is going to bring me a new toy!
22 - The Straw man
Look, look, there's a straw man in the farm;
He keeps all the wheat away from harm.
Look, look, here comes Buster the bird;
He eats all the wheat on August third!
One month pass, and it's September third;

Look, look, again comes Buster the bird!
Straw man, straw man, do your job;
Chase far away that awful bird!
1. What does the straw man do on the farm? Can you find it in

2. What did Buster the bird do on August 3rd? Can you spot him
in the picture?
3. Did Buster the bird come back again? When?
27 - Mike and Jake
Mike and Jake are good friends.
They ride their bikes to the park.
At the park, they like to play baseball.
Mike is at bat, and Jake is the pitcher.
Jake threw the ball. Strike one!
Jake threw the ball again. Strike two!
Jake threw the ball a third time. Strike three!
"You're out Mike! My turn to bat." Said Jake.
After playing baseball, Mike and Jake ride their bikes home.
1. Where are Mike and Jake going?

3. What are they doing at the park?
4. Who was the batter and who was the pitcher?
5. Where did Mike and Jake go after playing baseball?
28 - Cinderella
Cinderella, Cinderella;
Do the dishes, mop the floor;
Feed the cat, and wipe the door.
Stepmother, stepsister;
They are evil, they are mean;
They want to be the princess and queen.
To the ball, to the ball;

The prince is having a party!
Cinderella is locked in her room;
The stepmother is playing dirty!
Magic, magic;
It's the fairy godmother.
Cinderella has a glass slipper,
Given to her by the fairy godmother.
To the ball, to the ball;

Cinderella meets the prince.
They dance and they prance;
They fall in love and oh, what a romance!
29 - Robert
Robert is a bright boy.
He is a high school student.
He always finishes his homework every night.
Today is Friday, and Robert is not studying
tonight.
There is no school on Saturday.
1. What type of school does Robert attend?
2. Is he a good student? Explain.
3. Why is Robert not studying tonight?
32 - The Boy Who Cried Wolf
Once upon a time, there was a boy.
He watched over a herd of goats.
One day, the goat boy was bored, and he cried "wolf, wolf!"
Others came to help, but there was no wolf.
Next day, the goat boy again yelled "wolf, wolf!"
Others came to help, but there was no wolf.
On the third day, there really was a big bad wolf.
The goat boy ran down the road crying "wolf, wolf!"
But this time, no one came to help the boy who cried wolf.
1. What job did the boy have?
2. Why did the goat boy cry wolf?
3. Was there a wolf when others came to help the first time?
4. On the third day when there really was a wolf, did anyone
come to help? Why not?
33 - Sophie and Ralph
Sophie is taking her nephew Ralph to the zoo.
At the zoo, they see big elephants.
Ralph got to ride on an elephant. He had a lot of fun.
Sophie then took Ralph to see the dolphins.
The Dolphins were swimming and playing in the
pool.
Ralph waited for his turn to swim with the dolphins.
Sophie took many photos for Ralph.
1. Who is taking Ralph to the zoo? How are they related?
2. What did Ralph get to do when they went to see the

elephants?
3. After elephants, where did Ralph and Sophie go?
4. What did Ralph get to do with the dolphins?
33 - Little Gopher Drew
Little gopher Drew,
Don’t chew on the pole.
Water is leaking,
And your house has a hole.
There's water in your house,

And mud on your bed.
Donny the dolphin swims by,
And you went to play instead!
Little gopher Drew,
Your home is flooded.
Chuck the duck quacked on the roof,
And on the roof, he got stranded.
Little gopher Drew,

It's too late to patch up the hole.
Your house floated away,
And you're still chewing on the pole!
