For the facilitator:
Welcome to the Music 7 Alternative Delivery Mode (ADM) Module 6
on Music from Lowlands of Luzon!

Have a great day with you. This competency will test your
understanding in presenting the music of the lowlands of Luzon which is
composed of vocal and instrumental music.

This module was collaboratively designed, developed, and reviewed by


educators from public institutions to assist you, the teacher, or facilitator in
helping the learners meet the standards set by the K to 12 Curriculum while
overcoming their personal, social, and economic constraints in schooling.

This learning resource hopes to engage the learners in guided and


independent learning activities at their own pace and time. Furthermore, this
also aims to help learners acquire the needed 21st-century skills while taking
into consideration their needs and circumstances.

As a facilitator, you are expected to orient the learners on how to use


this module. You also need to keep track of the learners' progress while
allowing them to manage their own learning. Furthermore, you are expected
to encourage and assist the learners as they do the tasks included in the
module.

3. Perform music from Luzon Lowlands with own
accompaniment.

What’s In

Folk Songs of the Luzon (Lowlands)


Folk songs are song written by the folks and are sung to accompany
daily activities such as farming, fishing and putting the baby to sleep. The
people created melodic chants and indigenous instruments based on the
materials available where they lived. The folk songs of Luzon Lowlands are
performed in their native language such as Ilocano, Pangasinese,
Kapampangan, Tagalog, Bicolano and others.

What’s New

The lowland music of Luzon includes the Las Pinas Bamboo Organ,
Musikong Bumbong and Pangkat Kawayan. (Present a video clips of lowland
music of Luzons).

What is it

Instrumental Music Features


Las Pinas Bamboo Organ • A Philippine National Treasure, the
Bamboo Organ can be found in St.
Joseph’s Church Las Pinas City.
• It is made of 902 bamboo pipes.
• It was completed in 1824 by Father
Diego Cera.

Musikong Bumbong • Are Filipino marching bands that


use woodwind instruments that
are made of bamboo. The shape
and sizes are similar to brass

instrument but have different
sounds.
• The D’ Original Malabon Musikong
Bumbong started as a plain Banda
de Boca (meaning “bibig or mouth”)
in Barrio Tonsuya, Malabon in
1896.
• Felix Ramos was both the founder
and inventor of the bamboo
instrument. The first members of
the band were all katipuneros.
• The band was renamed several
times but is currently known as
Musikawayan under the
leadership of P/Lt. Col. Gilbert M.
Ramos.
Pangkat Kawayan • Popularly known as the “Singing
Bamboos” of the Philippines, is an
Orchestra that plays music using
non-traditional bamboo
instruments founded in 1966.
• The group’s musical instruments,
numbering more than a hundred
are made of six kinds of the
versatile bamboo in various sizes,
shapes and designs.

Angklung Ensemble • A small group of musicians who


plays angklung bamboo
instrument.

• Made of bamboo-rattle tubes
attached to a bamboo frame.
• Manner for playing the angklung is
by rapidly shaking the bottom
parts of the frame while the other
hand steadily holds the upper part
of the instrument.
• Angklung shaker plays only one or
two pitches.
• Commonly accompanied by double
bass guitars and percussions
instruments.
• Angklung has more than two and a
half octaves or around 30 pitches.
• Can also be a part of the other
ensemble like the pangkat
kawayan.
