Welcome to the Music 7 Alternative Delivery Mode (ADM) Module 6
on Music from Lowlands of Luzon!
Have a great day with you. This competency will test your
understanding in presenting the music of the lowlands of Luzon which is
composed of vocal and instrumental music.
With this competency you will develop your knowledge and learning
about music from Luzon lowlands which varies in every province of Luzon.
This module was designed to provide you with fun and meaningful
opportunities for guided and independent learning at your own pace and time.
You will be enabled to process the contents of the learning resource while
being an active learner.

performances featuring the songs for different types of voices and musical
instruments will culminate the educational experiences.

2. Describe the musical instrument of Luzon Lowlands.
3. Perform music from Luzon Lowlands with own
accompaniment.

What’s New
The lowland music of Luzon includes the Las Pinas Bamboo Organ,
Musikong Bumbong and Pangkat Kawayan. (Present a video clips of lowland
music of Luzons).
What is it

• The D’ Original Malabon Musikong
Bumbong started as a plain Banda
de Boca (meaning “bibig or mouth”)
in Barrio Tonsuya, Malabon in
1896.
• Felix Ramos was both the founder
and inventor of the bamboo
instrument. The first members of
the band were all katipuneros.
• The band was renamed several
times but is currently known as
Musikawayan under the
leadership of P/Lt. Col. Gilbert M.
Ramos.
Pangkat Kawayan • Popularly known as the “Singing
Bamboos” of the Philippines, is an
Orchestra that plays music using
non-traditional bamboo
instruments founded in 1966.
• The group’s musical instruments,
numbering more than a hundred
are made of six kinds of the
versatile bamboo in various sizes,
shapes and designs.
• Angklung
• Bumbong
• Kalatok
• Talunggating
• Kalagong
• Pan Pipes
• Tulali
• Kiskis

• Made of bamboo-rattle tubes
attached to a bamboo frame.
• Manner for playing the angklung is
by rapidly shaking the bottom
parts of the frame while the other
hand steadily holds the upper part
of the instrument.
• Angklung shaker plays only one or
two pitches.
• Commonly accompanied by double
bass guitars and percussions
instruments.
• Angklung has more than two and a
half octaves or around 30 pitches.
• Can also be a part of the other
ensemble like the pangkat
kawayan.

What I have Learned
1. Las Pinas Bamboo Organ – a Philippine National Treasure,
found in Joseph’s Church Las Pinas City. It is made of 902
bamboo pipes and completed in 1824 by Father Diego Cera.
2. Musikong Bumbong – a marching bands that use woodwind
instruments that are made of bamboo. It produces good
harmony when playing together.
3. Angklung Ensemble – it is a small group of musician who
plays the angklung bamboo instruments. It is made of
bamboo-rattle tubes attached to a bamboo frame.
