Chapter 1 Read these instructions before use
Introduction
Thank you for your purchase of Just NAVI™, a waterproof digital portable platform scale. Since this
weighing unit is a digital portable platform scale with water-proof and dust-proof design compliant with
the IP65*, you can use this unit for a wide range of commercial activities, for example at factories and
general stores and in the fishery, greengrocery and agricultural industries. In addition, the instrument
offers advanced functions such as the Easy Setup function using numeric keypad, which allows anyone
to easily input target weight for fixed-amount packing, as well as the “Multi-function,” which allows the
user to customize the settings according to the application.
Thoroughly read this operation manual to use Just NAVI™ in an optimum condition for a long time, and
make full use of it.
* IP is a protection class against solid foreign material and water. IP65 indicates a waterproof
performance that prevents—through normal use—the entry of any dust, free of any adverse effect
even upon direct exposure to a jet of water from any direction.

1-1. For safe and proper use
Carefully read this “For safe and proper use” before use, and properly use the product. By following the
instructions in this section, you can safely use the product, thus preventing harm to yourself and others and
preventing damage to property. In addition, after reading this manual, carefully keep it in a place which can be
accessed quickly when needed.
• The hazardous levels and descriptions are defined in this manual as follows:
indicates that incorrect handling with disregard of the description could result

Don’ts indicates a prohibited action that you must NOT do.
Dos indicates a mandatory action that you must do.
 Before using this product, carefully read and understand the following instructions labeled as “Danger,”
“Warning,” and “Caution,” and ensure to observe them.
Danger
: To avoid an electric shock
(1) Do not step on the AC adaptor cable with your foot or run over it with the wheels of a cart or
other equipment (when the AC adaptor is used).
(2) Never remove any parts that are installed on the main unit with screws.
(3) Hold the plastic main body of the AC adaptor and securely connect or disconnect the AC
adaptor (when the AC adaptor is used).
: To avoid an explosion or ignition
This instrument is not explosion-proof.

Do not use it where a combustible gas, hazardous material, or other hazards may be present.
: To avoid a fire or electrical shock

Using the instrument in abnormal conditions (e.g. it gives out smoke or foul smell) may lead to a
fire or an electric shock. In such a case, immediately remove the battery or unplug the AC
adaptor from the outlet.
Confirm that it gives out no more smoke, and then ask your vendor for repairs.
The users are strongly advised not to repair the product on their own as doing so is very
dangerous.

Warning
: To avoid injuries and physical damage
(1) Do not use the instrument at an unstable place. When you place items on the platform, ensure
that the items would not collapse or fall down.
(2) Unplug the AC adaptor from the outlet after use (charging) (when the AC adaptor is used).
(3) When you carry or move this instrument, be sure to hold the handles with both hands. (Do not
carry it in a poor posture or by holding the platform.)
(4) Do not place your finger(s) into a gap, a hole, or any other pinching points on the instrument.
(5) Do not disassemble or modify the instrument.
(6) Liquid may leak from the display panel if it is damaged. Do not put the liquid into your mouth.
Caution
: To avoid damage to the instrument
(1) Do not push the display panel or operation keys with your fingernail or a pointed object.
(2) Observe the specified input voltage and operating conditions.
(3) Do not disassemble or modify the instrument.
(4) Do not place anything heavier than the weighing capacity on the weighing platform.
(5) Do not apply any excessive impact or vibration to the platform, for example by dropping an item
on it.
: To maintain the performance of the instrument
(1) Do not place the instrument in a place close to any equipment that generates vibrations.
(2) Do not place the instrument in a place exposed to direct sunlight or air-blow from an air
conditioner.
(3) Place the instrument on a rigid floor or table.
(4) Do not use the instrument outside the range of the operating temperatures (0°C to 40°C).
(5) Use the instrument in a horizontal position.
(When the instrument is not horizontal, ensure to make it level through adjustments with the
leveling legs.)
(6) Do not drop the instrument. Do not place it on its side during storage.
(7) When checking the installation condition of the platform, ensure to do it through visual inspection.
Never apply excessive loads, for example, by rotating the platform clockwise and
counterclockwise.
(8) Do not dip the instrument in water. Do not splash water on the bottom of the instrument while it is

1-2. Cautions and instructions on use
Causes of failure
(1) Do not drop anything on the instrument, jump on it, or drop it.
(2) Do not wipe the instrument using thinner, benzene, or other solvents.
Causes of poor measurement

(1) Do not use the instrument near a heat source or steam, or in a place exposed to direct sunlight or air-
blow from an air conditioner.
(2) Do not use the instrument in a place exposed to excessive shock or vibration, or near any devices that
emit strong electromagnetic waves (e.g. microwave ovens).
(3) Use the instrument on a level, stable place which is rigid enough to sustain the load.
(4) Use the instrument in the specified operating conditions. (Operating conditions: 0°C to +40°C, 30% RH
to 85% RH)
Note that, even in the specified operating range, measurement results may become inaccurate under
the following conditions where condensations occur.
1) When the instrument has been used or stored in a humid environment for a long time.
2) When the instrument has been exposed to sudden temperature change even if the humidity is low
(e.g. cold water has been splashed over the instrument).
3) When the instrument has been used in an atmosphere exposed to cold air (from a refrigerator
etc.), steam, or water vapor.
(5) When checking the installation condition of the platform, do not apply excessive loads, for example, by
rotating the platform clockwise and counterclockwise.
(6) After removing the samples on completion of measurement and before placing the next samples, check
the reading has returned to zero.
Dry batteries (for models using dry batteries “J-101W(D)”)

(1) Do not use any dry batteries other than alkaline batteries or manganese batteries.
(2) Upon replacement, set the batteries in place according to the specified polarities (+, -). Otherwise, the
instrument may break down.
(3) Do not use an alkaline battery together with a manganese battery. If those batteries are used together,
the batteries may leak or rupture.
(4) Replace the batteries as soon as the low battery sign [bAt] appears.
Replace all the batteries with new ones at a time. A mixture of an old battery may cause a battery leak
or significantly reduce the life of the batteries.
(5) If you do not use the instrument for a long time (about 1 month or more), remove the dry batteries from
the instrument. Otherwise, a battery leak may occur, thus resulting in the corrosion inside the instrument.
(6) When using the AC adaptor (option), be sure to remove the batteries from the instrument. Never use the
AC adaptor and batteries at the same time.
Rechargeable battery (for models with rechargeable battery ”J-101W(D)-RB”)

(1) Do not use any batteries other than those designated by Yamato Scale.
(2) If the low battery sign appears, immediately charge the battery. If the battery drains fast, replace it with
a new one.
(3) To replace the battery, insert the connector in the specified direction. Otherwise, the instrument may get
damaged.
(4) If you do not use the instrument for a long time (about 6 months or more), charge the battery. Even if the
instrument is not used, the battery drains, which may disable the instrument.
(5) If the battery continues to be charged after being fully charged, the battery may become deteriorated.
Please inspect the instrument at the start of the operation

The execution of proper measurement is required in the Measurement Act. Ensure to inspect the instrument
and conduct the weight check at the start of the operation.

Storage and disposal
 Storage locations

1-6. To maintain the performance of the instrument

 When you wash the platform, use clean water and then carefully wipe off moisture with a clean dry cloth.
If you use sea water, unclean water, or contaminated water, the instrument may break down.
 Use soft cloth when wiping stains off the whole instrument. Do not use a scrubber, brush, or other tools.
 To clean the instrument using neutral detergent, (1) moisten a sponge with neutral detergent, (2) wipe stains
off the instrument with the sponge, (3) wash the instrument with clean water, and then (4) carefully wipe off
moisture with a clean dry cloth.
 To disinfect the whole instrument using alcohol, (1) moisten a cloth with a solution of up to 80% alcohol
concentration, (2) wipe stains off the instrument with the cloth, (3) wash the instrument with clean water, and
then (4) carefully wipe off moisture with a clean dry cloth. Wash the display panel with clean water.
 Never disassemble or modify the instrument. Otherwise, it may deteriorate the water-proof performance of
the instrument.
Be sure to contact your vendor if, by any chance, you have disassembled the instrument by mistake.
 Do not drop the instrument. Do not allow the instrument to hit against hard objects such as a table.
 Do not push the display panel, operation keys, or rubber area with your fingernail or a pointed object.
 After use, store the instrument in a dry place with a small change in temperature.

Chapter 2 Preparations before use

2-1. How to attach/detach the platform
You can attach/detach the platform of Just NAVI™ with a single action. The platform is easy to detach also for
cleaning.
<How to attach>
 There are two platform fixtures (on the right and left sides) on the back of the plate. Slide them outward.
 With the platform fixtures slid outward, place the platform on the main unit of the instrument. At that time,
align the lug of the platform fixture with the groove on the main unit of the instrument.
 Put the platform fixture back to the original position. If the platform is not properly mounted (see the figure
below), turning it clockwise or counterclockwise may cause a failure. To prevent any load from applying to the
platform, be sure to visually check the mounting condition of the platform. After confirming that the platform is
properly mounted, start weight measurement work.

You can detach the platform using the reverse procedure to the above installation.
There are two platform fixtures (on the right and left sides) on the back of the plate. Slide the platform fixtures
outward; and detach the platform while holding the positions of the fixtures.

2-2. How to charge the battery (for the models with the rechargeable battery )
 Turn the battery cover knob on the back side of the instrument, and then remove the battery cover.
 Securely insert the plug of the AC adapter into the jack. Then the charging starts.

Charge the battery at a temperature of 5°C to 35°C. Otherwise, charging may not be properly performed.
The battery sign blinks during charging. When charging is complete, the blinking stops.
2-3. How to set and replace dry batteries (for the models with dry batteries)
 Turn the battery cover knob on the back of the instrument, and then remove the battery cover.
 Set the batteries in the correct directions according to the battery polarity (+, -) signs indicated inside the
battery box. If you set a battery in the wrong direction, the instrument may break down.
 Close the battery cover, and securely close the battery cover knob.

Even when you need to replace one battery, replace both with new batteries.
Do not mix different types and brands of batteries (e.g. manganese battery and alkaline battery).
2-4. Place of installation

Be sure to place the instrument on a level surface.
Otherwise, the measurement results will become inaccurate.

adjusting its levelness. Place the instrument on as flat a
surface as possible, and turn the leveling legs so that the

Operation keys
Power ON/OF key

When the power is turned off, press this key to turn on the power. To turn off the
power, hold down this key until the display goes out. If you press this key on a setup
screen, the system returns to weighing mode. If you press this key in weighing mode
after a program is called, the system returns to weighing mode before a program is
called.
Pressing this key during a user parameter setting restarts the instrument.
Tare key
Press this key to show the weight of a container as zero. Then the system subtracts
the weight as tare.
Zero Reset key
If the indication is deviated from zero before weight measurement, press this key to
reset it to zero.
If you press this key on a setup screen, the display returns to the previous screen.
PLU key
PLU Press this key to display the program selection screen, where you can call a program
and register a new program.
Numeric keypad (0-9)

Use this to input a setting value.
Clear key
Press this key to clear a value entered with the numeric keypad.

User Parameter Setup mode
When you press Zero Reset key and Tare key at the same time during weight
measurement, the system enters User Parameter Setup mode, where you can set
various user parameters.

Chapter 3 Basic operations

3-1. How to weigh an item
* Procedure for turning ON the power and weighing a 250 g item:

Just NAVI™ allows you to change the settings to best fit for your needs and applications. Change the settings
as needed, referring to the user parameter table below.

Chapter 5 Description of each function

5-1. Preset tare function
The preset tare function allows you to register a known tare by entering the value. A preset tare can be linked
to a program and retrieved when you call program data.
* The Measurement Act prohibits inputting a preset tare outside the indication range in which the minimum
scale interval can be used (up to 1500 g when the weighing capacity is 3000 g and up to 3000 g when
the weighing capacity is 6000 g).
* You cannot register only a preset tare as program data. You also need to register other setting values such
as the lower limit.
* You cannot use the Preset tare function together with the Counting function or the Subtractive weighing
function.
* You cannot use this function together with the Automatic tare function. If you set both functions, the system
enables the Preset tare function and disables the Automatic tare function.

5-2. Automatic tare function

The Automatic tare function allows you to subtract a tare by simply placing a container, without any need for
pressing the tare key. This function regards the first measurement value from zero weight as a container weight
and automatically subtracts the weight as tare.
* When you select the Subtractive weighing (Section 5-5), the Automatic tare function does not work even if
it is enabled.
* You cannot use this function together with the Preset tare function. If both functions are specified, the system
enables the Preset tare and disables the Automatic tare function.

not end the Automatic tare until weight measurement is performed.

5-3. Automatic power OFF function

The Automatic power OFF function automatically turns off the instrument when the instrument is not used for
a certain time. When you use the AC adaptor (optional), the Automatic power OFF function does not work
even if it is enabled. The Automatic power OFF function is set to 15 minutes as the factory default.
Automatic power OFF function - How to enable it

Set the user parameter #05 to a value between 1 and 5. Set this to 0 to
disable the automatic power OFF function. When you set this to 1, 2, 3, 4,

or 5, the power is turned off in 5 minutes, 10 minutes, 15 minutes, 30
minutes, or 60 minutes, respectively.
5-4. Multi-function
The multi-function is our unique function to support a speedy and accurate weight measurement operation. Just
NAVI™ is equipped with 5 functions, including the Checkweighing function (standard), Fixed weighing function,
Ranking function, Ranking combination function, and Counting function. Familiarize yourself with those
functions and use them effectively for your work.
Multi-function - How to select a function

By setting the user parameter #08 to 1, you can use the Subtractive weighing for the following functions.

* You cannot use the Subtractive weighing function in combination with the Just weight function and the Just
quantity function.
• Ranking function
• Ranking combination function
* You can only use the Pre-combination Ranking mode. In the Combination Weighing mode, you can only use
the additive type weight measurement, instead of the subtractive type.
In the Subtractive weighing mode, once you put all the items on the instrument, the tare is automatically
subtracted, and the evaluation by each function is made for the items you removed from the instrument.
For the Checkweighing function, the condition for proceeding to the next weight measurement after the
evaluation depends on the user parameter #11.
