    Unisex V Necked Baby Cardigan

    Newborn – 3 months
    By Morven Swan

    To fit chest size 16/17 inches (41-44cm)

    Finished Measurements
    Chest size: 18 inches (46cm)
    Sleeve Seam: 4 ½ inches (11cm)
    Length: 9 ¼ inches (23cm)

    You will need


    50g ball of DK wool (I recommend the Sidrar Snuggly DK as it is lovely & soft, machine washable &
    inexpensive)
    3 buttons to compliment colour
    Size 3.25mm (size 10) needles
    Size 4mm (size 8) needles
    Tapestry needle

    BACK
    Using size 3.25mm (size 10) needles, cast on 49sts

    1st Row: K1, *p1, k1; repeat from * to the end


    2nd Row: P1, *k1, p1; repeat from * to the end

    Repeat these two rows 3 times more (8 rows of rib)

    Change to size 4mm (size 8) needles. Work in stocking stitch until back measures 12cm (approx 28
    rows) to start of raglan shaping. End with a purl row.

    Shape Raglan Armholes

    Cast off 3 sts at beginning of next two rows

    Next row: K2, p2tog, work to last 4 sts, p2tog, k2


    Next row: Purl

    Repeat these last 2 rows until 25 sts remain. End with a purl row
    Next row: K2, p3tog, work to last 5 sts, p3tog, k2
    Next row: Purl

    Repeat these last 2 rows twice more.


    Cast off the remaining 13 sts

    LEFT FRONT
    Using size 3.25mm (size 10) needles, cast on 27 sts

    1st Row: *K1, P1; repeat from * to the last 5 sts, K5


    2nd Row: K4, *p1, k1; repeat from * to last st, p1

    Repeat these two rows 3 times more (8 rows of rib)

    Change to size 4mm (size 8) needles. Keeping 4 sts at front edge in garter stitch, work in stocking stitch
    until left front measures the same as back (12cm/approx 28 rows) to start of raglan shaping. End with a
    purl row.

    Shape Raglan

    Cast off 3 sts at beginning of next row. Knit to the end

    Next row: K4, p to end


    Next row: K2, p2tog, knit to last 6sts, k2tog, k4
    Next row: K4, p to end
    Next row: K2, p2tog, knit to end

    Repeat the last 4 rows until 10 sts remain, ending with a purl row

    Next row: K2, p3tog, k to end


    Next row: k4, p to end

    Repeat the last 2 rows once (6 sts remain)

    Next row: K1, K2tog, k3


    Next row: K3, k2tog

    Work 11 rows of garter stitch on the remaining 4 sts. Cast off

    RIGHT FRONT
    Using size 3.25mm (size 10) needles, cast on 27 sts
    (Buttonholes are placed after the 5th row, and then again every 14 rows (based on approx 28 rows of
    stst))

    1st Row: K5, *p1, K1; repeat from * to end


    2nd Row: *P1, k1; repeat from * to last 5 sts, p1, k4

    Repeat these two rows ONCE (4 rows of rib)

    5th Row (Buttonhole): K1, k2tog, yf, k2, *p1,k1; repeat from * to the end

    Work 3 more rows in garter stitch with rib pattern (row 2, row 1, row 2)

    Change to size 4mm (size 8) needles. Keeping 4 sts at front edge in garter stitch, work in stocking stitch
    for 10 rows

    11th row (Buttonhole): K1, k2tog, yf, k to the end

    Keeping 4 sts at front edge in garter stitch, work in stocking stitch for 13 rows

    25th row (buttonhole): K1, k2tog, yf, k to the end


    Keeping 4 sts at front edge in garter stitch, work in stocking stitch for 2 rows, ending with a knit row until
    right front measures the same as back (12cm/approx 27 rows) to start of raglan shaping.

    Shape Raglan

    Cast off 3 st at beginning of next row. P to last 4 sts, k4

    Next row: K4, s1, k1, psso, knit to last 4 sts, p2tog, k2
    Next row: P tolast 4 sts, k4
    Next row: K4, k to last 4 sts, p2tog, k2
    Next row: P to last 4 sts, k4

    Repeat the last 4 rows until 10 sts remain, ending with a purl row

    Next row: k4, k to last 5 sts, p3tog, K2


    Next row: P to last 4 sts, k4
    Next row: K4, p3tog, k1
    Next row: P2, K4
    Next row: K1, K2tog, k3
    Next row: K3, k2tog

    Work 11 rows of garter stitch on the remaining 4 sts. Cast off

    SLEEVES
    Using size 3.25mm (size 10) needles, cast on 29 sts

    1st Row: K1, *p1, k1; repeat from * to the end


    2nd Row: P1, *k1, p1; repeat from * to the end

    Repeat thessw-se two rows 3 times more (8 rows of rib)

    Change to size 4mm (size 8) needles and work in stocking stitch for 4 rows

    Next row (Row 5): K2, M1, knit to last 2 stitches, M1, K2 (31 st)
    Work in stocking stitch for 5 rows

    Next row (Row 11): K2, M1, knit to last 2 stitches, M1, K2 (33 st)
    Work in stocking stitch for 5 rows

    Next row (Row 17): K2, M1, knit to last 2 stitches, M1, K2 (35 st)
    Work in stocking stitch for approx 7 rows (ending with a purl row) until sleeve measures 10.5cm (approx
    24 rows) to start of raglan shaping.

    Shape Top

    Cast off 3 sts at beg of next 2 rows

    Next row: K2, p2tog, work to last 4 sts, p2tog, k2


    Next row: Purl

    Repeat last 2 rows until 7 sts remain, ending with a purl row.

    Next row: K2, p3tog, k2


    Next row: Purl

    Cast off remaining 5 sts

    FINISHING
    Press pieces and join raglan, side and sleeve seams. Join the ends of the neckband together and sew
    in place across the back of the neck. Press seams and sew on buttons.
