Abstract:
This experiment investigates the effect water
temperature has on the dissolving rate of
sugar. Beakers were initially filled to 200ml of
water, heated and mixed with sugar. The
results reveal that hot water significantly
increases the dissolve rate of sugar
compared to warm water, validating the
hypothesis. This experiment highlights the
importance of temperature as a factor
affecting the physical properties in sugar
particles in hot water, demonstrating a clear
relationship between water temperature and
dissolving rate of sugar.

Title:
Dizzy Sugar

Problem:
How long does it take for sugar to dissolve in
different temperatures of water?

4
Hypothesis:
If the temperature of water influences the
dissolve rate of sugar then hot water will
dissolve sugar the fastest.

Aim:
To determine the effects of different
temperatures of water on the dissolve rate of
sugar.

5
Variables:
Manipulative: Temperature of
water.

Responsive: Rate at which

sugar melts.

Control: Same type of sugar,

Same type of water, Same
container.

6
Materials:
Water, Sugar, Spoon, Bunsen burner, Beaker,
Thermometer.

Procedures:
1. Place 200 ml of water in the beaker.
2. Heat beaker to 30°C.
3. Place 2 tbsp of sugar in the beaker.
4. Set timer and mix until sugar is
dissolved.
5. Record data in a table.
6. Analyze and draw a conclusion.
7. Repeat steps 1-6 for temperatures
60°C, 90°C.

7
Data:

Temperature Trial 3 Average

Of Trial 1 Trial 2
Water (°F) (s) (s) (s)

80 65 67 63 65

90 59 58 54 57

100 45 44 42 43

8
Source Of Error:
● Timer was started late.
● Timer was stopped late.
● Wrong amount of sugar was added.

9
Precaution:
● Make sure to stop the timer quickly to get
accurate results.
● Use accurate measurements of sugar to
add in water.

10
Conclusion:
In the experiment we found out that the
hottest temperature of water made the sugar
dissolve the fastest. This experiment would be
important in life
