INFO AND TIPS

Read the pattern from start to finish before starting to make sure you have a good
understanding of how the bag is worked up.

- The first 5 rounds are worked right side facing, the last round is worked wrong side
facing
- Ch 3 counts as a dc, ch 2 counts as a hdc, ch 1 does not count as a st at the start of
each round
- I suggest you weave in your ends after each square
- Optional: Block each finished square to 4.5”

Puff – *Yarn over, insert hook into your working st, yarn over, pull up a loop* repeat twice more
into the same st so you have 7 loops on the hook, yarn over, pull through all loops, ch 1.
Beg-cl – Ch 3, *Yarn over, insert hook into your working st, yarn over, pull through, yarn over,
pull through two loops* repeat 2 more times so you have 4 loops on the hook, yarn over, pull
through remaining 4 loops.
cl – *Yarn over, insert hook into your working st, yarn over, pull through, yarn over, pull through
two loops* repeat 3 more times so you have 5 loops on the hook, yarn over, pull through
remaining 5 loops.

Squares for the bag
Make 13 squares

Make a magic circle or ch 10 and join to first ch with a slst,

Round 1 [RS] – ch 3 (counts as first dc), working over the yarn

tail, place 15 dc into the ring, slst to first dc, pull on the yarn
tail to cinch the ring closed, {16 dc}

Round 2 [RS] –ch 1 (does not count as a st), into the same st,
place 1 puff, 1 puff into each of the next 15 st, slst in-between
the first and second puff sp, {16 puff}

Round 3 [RS] – Start with a beg-cl (counts as first cl), ch 2, *cl,

ch2* in each sp between the puffs around, slst in-between
the first and second cl (this should be a ch 2 sp), {16 cl, 16 ch
2 sps}

Round 4 [RS] – ch 3 (counts as first dc), place 2 dc back into

the same sp, *3 hdc into the next ch 2 sp, 3 sc into the next
ch 2 sp, 3 hdc into the next ch 2 sp, ^3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc^ into
the next ch 2 sp* repeat around omitting the last corner of
the repeat, 3 dc into the last sp where you worked your first
3 dc, ch 2, slst to the top of the first dc, {15 st along each
side and ch 2 in each corner}

Round 5 [RS] – ch 3 (counts as first dc), place 2 dc back into
the corner sp below, *sk the first st (this st may be hidden), 1
dc in each of the next 14 sts, ^3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc^ into the
corner sp* repeat 2 more times, sk the first st (this st may be
hidden), 1 dc in each of the next 14 sts, 3 dc into the corner,
ch 2, slst to the top of the first dc, TURN {20 st along each
side and ch 2 in each corner}.

Round 6 [WS]– slst into the corner sp, ch 2 (counts as first

hdc), 2 hdc into the corner sp, *sk the first st, 1 fpdc around
each of the next 18 sts, skip the last st, ^3 hdc, ch 2, 3 hdc^
into the corner sp* repeat 2 more times, sk the first st, 1
fpdc around each of the next 18 sts, skip the last st, 3 hdc
into the corner sp, ch 2, slst to the first hdc, fasten off and
secure ends. {24 st along each side and ch 2 in each
corner}

Joining the squares

- Lay all squares out as shown in the diagram below and join squares in the direction
shown by the red arrows
- Join the squares with RS facing
- Make sure the working yarn is always at the back of the work
- Work your slsts loosely

Slip stitch join method

Step 1 – start with a slip knot on your hook, insert the hook into the front loop of the ch 1 to
the right of the hdc in a corner sp, making sure the working yarn is at the back of the work,
Step 2 – insert the hook into the corresponding ch on the second square, yarn over and slst
through all three loops,
Step 3 – insert hook into the front loop of the next st on square 1 (this should be the first
hdc of a corner), insert hook into the front loop of the corresponding st on the second
square, yarn over, slst through all three loops

Slip sts join method Work the ch 1 over the top of a join already
made, keeping the yarn at the back of the work.

Repeat step 3 all the way across, making sure you go into the first ch of the next corner too.
You should be slip stitching across 26 stitches on each side.

Ch 1 before connecting the next side of a square.

Continue connecting the next squares in the same method following the direction
suggested in the diagram until you have all the squares joined.

… after stitching

Now fold the body of the bag in half and fold the side squares in half – the right side
should be facing.

Now join the squares following the same joining method and the direction of the below
diagram

Making the straps

Note: For round 1, adjust the amount of chs needed for the straps if you would like a
different length – remember that your end stitch count will not be the same as the
instructions.

Set up round: Attach yarn in the first corner space of the joined squares at the side of the
bag, ch 1 (does not count as a st), sc-dec across the 3 corner sps, *sc 1 in the next 24 sts, ^sc
1, ch 2, sc 1^ in the corner space, sc 1 in the next 24 sts, sc dec across the next 3 corner sps*
repeat around omitting the last sc-dec, slst to first sc, {204 sc and ch 2 in each corner}

Round 1: ch 1 (does not count as a st), sc 1 in the next 26 sts, sc1 in the ch 2 sp, ch 80, sc 1
in the next ch 2 corner sp, sc 1 in the next 51 sts, sc 1 in the ch 2 sp, ch 80, sc 1 in the next
ch 2 corner sp, sc 1 in the next 25 sts, slst to first sc, {106 sc and 80 chs for each handle}

Round 2: ch 1 (does not count as a st), sc 1 in the next 27 sts, 1 sc in the next 80 chs, sc 1 in
the next 53 sts, 1 sc in the next 80 chs, sc 1 in the next 26 sts, slst to first sc, {266 sc}

Round 3-4 or until desired thickness of strap: ch 1 (does not count as a st), sc 1 in each st
around, slst to first sc, {266 sc}

Fasten off and make sure all ends are secure.
