Assignment Title: Retail Plan (30%)

Objective: The objective of this assignment is to develop a comprehensive retail


plan for a fictional or existing retail business. Students will apply their knowledge of
retail management, marketing, and operations to create a strategic plan that
addresses key aspects of the retail business, such as store layout, merchandise
assortment, pricing, promotions, and customer experience.

Assignment Overview:

Work in a group of six and develop a comprehensive retail plan by choosing any
retail business type. Be sure to reference the concepts you have learned in your
chapters. You will be invited to showcase your retail plan at The Retail Business Plan
Exhibition. In this assignment, you will create a retail plan for a retail business of your
choice. You will be expected to address various components of retail strategy and
present a well-thought-out plan that can be used to guide the retail business in
achieving its goals.

The event provides an opportunity for a student to develop and demonstrate mastery
of essential knowledge and skills as they apply to the analysis of a business
opportunity, the development of a marketing/promotion plan, location analysis and
the development of a financial plan. Your report should include the following:

Assignment Components:

1. Retail Business Selection


 Choose a specific retail business or create a fictional one for this
assignment.
 Provide a brief description of the business, including its size, location,
and target market.

2. Market Analysis
 Conduct a comprehensive analysis of the market in which the retail
business operates. (SWOT ANALYSIS)
 Identify target customers and their preferences.
 Analyse competitors and market trends.

3. Store Layout and Visual Merchandising


 Design an effective store layout that enhances the customer shopping
experience.
 Describe visual merchandising strategies, including product placement
and signage.

4. Merchandise Assortment
 Determine the assortment of products the retail business will carry.
 Explain your product selection criteria and the rationale behind it.

5. Pricing Strategy
 Develop a pricing strategy for the retail business.
 Discuss the factors influencing pricing decisions.

6. Promotions and Marketing


 Create a promotional plan, including advertising and sales promotions.
 Discuss the use of digital marketing and social media in reaching the
target audience.

7. Customer Service and Experience


 Define the customer service standards and policies.
 Explain how the retail business will enhance the overall customer
experience.

8. Financial Projections
 Provide financial projections, including sales forecasts, budget
estimates, and break-even analysis.
 Justify your financial assumptions.

9. Conclusion and Implementation


 Summarize the key elements of your retail plan.
 Discuss the steps necessary to implement the plan successfully.

10. References
 Cite all sources used in your research and analysis, following a
consistent citation style (e.g., APA, MLA).

 Use visual aids and diagrams to enhance the presentation of your plan.

PRESENTATION:

Students must showcase their retail plan in the form of Poster/ Prototypes
Presentation at the event. The oral presentation may be maximum of 15 minutes
in length, including time for questions. Use your creativity to make the
presentation interesting and informative. Lecturers who are not teaching the
subject can be invited to evaluate the presentation, focusing on the effectiveness
of public speaking and presentation skills and how well your group responds to
questions that the panel may ask during the presentation.
