REPAIR TIPS, ENGUSH

Repair guide If the terminal does not work, always check the following:

1. Measure the voltage from the batteries while transmitting IR at the

same time, use the v key (volume down). The voltage from the
batteries must exceed 3.5V, which corresponds to approximately 20 per
cent of the remaining battery capacity.
2. Place the terminal in service position.
3. Check the voltage across the SMD electrolyte capacitor (Vee>. The
voltage should be approx. O.2SV less than the voltage from the
batteries while transmitting IR at the same time, use the v key (volume
down).

Check the SMD crystal X2 with an oscilloscope; the test point is shown
in fig. 2. When actuating one of the keys «, », 1\, v, ... , ... , yellow,
blue, green, red, LIST and -, the crystal oscillates constantly at
1.82MHz, corresponding to a period of approx. O.5l.1s. When the other
keys are actuated, the crystal oscillates at only approx. 300ms.
If X2 oscillates constantly the reason might be that a key is "hanging"
or that there is a fault in the module (PCB).
The keyboard can be checked by means of the following test points:

C1 - (6: are normally high (over 3.5V), and contain low data pulses
when one of the keys shown in the applicable column in the
table (Table 1) is actuated. Only the keys «, », A, v, .... , ... ,
yellow, blue, green, red, LIST and. transmit data pulses
continuously, the other keys transmit data pulses for only
approx. 300ms.
R1 - R6: are normally low (OV), and contain high data pulses when one
of the keys shown in the applicable column in the table (Table
1) is actuated. Only the keys «, », 1\, v, .... , ... ,yellow, blue,
green, red, LIST and. transmit data pulses continuously, the
other keys transmit data pulses for only approx. 300ms.

If a fault is measured relative to the above, the connection between the

keyboard and the module can easily be disconnected by removing the
metal clamp in the base of the module (insulate the contact points, if
necessary). If the voltages are O.K. now {(1 - (6 over 3.5V and R1 - R6
equal to OV), the fault is in the keyboard - otherwise the module is faulty.
It is important that the keyboard domefoil is fixed accurately on the
contact points when the metal clamp is installed.

No IR/display O.K.: Does the display identification change when pressing RADIO, TV, SAT,

If yes, replace the module (PCB).
If no, check the keyboard (see "Keyboard does not work").
If the keyboard is O.K., replace the module (PCB).

Display does not work/IR is OX.: Check the connection between the display and the module; the nuts at
the display should be tight but not overtightened. If one or several
dots are missing in the display, the reason might be that one of the
nuts is too tight/loose. Observe the display text while adjusting the two
nuts.
Check the crystal X1 by means of an oscilloscope, the test point is
shown in fig. 2. The crystal should oscillate constantly at 32kHz,
corresponding to a period of approx. 30j.Js.
Check the LCD voltages V1 - V4 (see fig. 2) with an oscilloscope,
measured relative to Vcc (plus (+) on the SMD electrolyte capacitor):

Any ripple on the voltages in question may be due to a short circuit
between the display and the module.
Check and carefully clean with isopropyl alcohol the contact surfaces
and the contact rubber which establish the connection between the
display and the module.
(NOTE! Never touch the contact surfaces or the contact rubber with
your fingers!)

Fault in the display: If one dot is missing in the display, the fault is probably in the display.
If a number of dots are missing, carefully clean the connection
between the display and the module (see Display does not workllR is
O.K.). The problem could also be a direct fault in either the display or
the module.

«, », A, v, ....
C1 a C6. Presentent generalement une tension elevee (superieure a
