Transmission sub-modules FIPA (E1/T1), FIEA (E1), FIQA (E1/T1), FIYA (E1) - TDM
mode
The transmission sub-module FIPA for E1/T1 or FIEA for E1 supports up to 8 TDM inter-
faces.
The transmission sub-module FIQA for E1/T1 or FIYA for E1 supports up to 4 TDM inter-
faces.
If the Abis allocation requires more than one PCM line, further E1/T1 interfaces can be
deployed. The configuration and the settings of the Line Interface (LIF) will be done with
Flexi EDGE BTS Manager.

For T1 settings, the Line Coding must be AMI or B8ZS, and it must be the same as the
far end.
As default, two interfaces can be deployed. For further two interfaces, a software licence
is required for the Flexi EDGE Additional 2 E1, T1 IF (BSS30285) application software
product. This licence is trust-based in the BSS12 release, and licence-key controlled in
BSS13. For more information, see Technical Note TN_2GBTSf_SW_2007_1.

The BSS 30280 Abis loop protection feature needs a software licence with BSS13
onwards. For more information, see Technical Note TN_2GBTSf_SW_2007_1. See
also BSS 30280 Abis loop protection in document Flexi EDGE BTS Feature Descrip-
tions.
Cross-connections
Cross-connections define how signals are routed from a transmission interface to
another transmission interface. They are the basic building blocks for creating the path
for transmitting the Abis capacity from the BSC to the BTS via interconnecting nodes. If
there are changes in the traffic allocation during the expansions, this must be taken into
account in the cross-connection.
Cross-connections and Abis grooming are not available with the FIQA and FIYA sub-
modules in the PWE mode.
The BSS 21129 Abis Grooming feature needs a SW license with BSS13 onwards. For
more information, see Technical Note TN_2GBTSf_SW_2007_1.

connected to the System Module. This forces the BTS to update the RF autodetected
cabling with the new internal module identifiers for both the old and new Dual TRX
Modules. This resolves some issues that could occur during commissioning in step 15

For instructions on how to connect the cables, see Cabling for a 4+4+4 feederless con-
figuration on a rooftop in document Creating Flexi EDGE BTS Feederless Site Configu-
rations. The tables indicate which cables are needed for expansion.
Steps
1 Verify that the new TRXs have been created in the BSC.
When a TRX is created in the BSC, it is in the locked state.

2 If this is the local base and casings are used, install the casing for the new Dual
TRX Module.
3 If casings are used, remove the front covers from the following modules:
• System Module
• Remote and local Optical Converter Modules (EOCA) for the sector
• Existing Dual TRX Module in the sector
5 If casings are used, install the cable entries on the new Dual TRX Module.
7 Notify the appropriate personnel and block the sector with Flexi EDGE BTS
Manager.
Alternatively, you can request a sector lock from the BSC.
8 Wait for stable yellow LED to be displayed on the existing Dual TRX Module.
It takes one minute for the LED to change to yellow.
9 If this is the local base sector, use Flexi EDGE BTS Manager to disable power to
the System Module port on the existing and new Dual TRX Modules.
10 If this is a remote sector, turn off the mains power breakers to the local and remote
Optical Converter Modules for the sector.
14 If this is the local base, enable power to the Dual TRX Modules.
15 If this is a remote sector, turn on the mains power breakers to the local and remote
Optical Converter Modules.

rations. The tables indicate which cables are needed for expansion.
Steps
1 Verify that the new TRXs have been created in the BSC.
Note that when a TRX is created in the BSC, it is in the locked state.
2 Notify the appropriate personnel and block the BCF with Flexi EDGE BTS
Manager.
Alternatively, you can request a BCF lock from the BSC.
3 Wait for stable yellow LED to be displayed on the existing Dual TRX Module.
It takes one minute for the LED to change to yellow.
4 Turn off power from the System Module with the power switch on the module.
5 Turn off the mains power breakers for the System Module and remote sectors.

c) Install the new System Extension Module, Dual TRX Modules, and Wideband
Combiner Sub-modules.
d) If casings are used, install the cable entries for the new modules.
e) If casings are used, remove the front covers from the remaining modules.
f) Disconnect the external power, internal power and bus cables from the System
Module and remove all RF cables from the Dual TRX Modules.
g) Connect the DC power feed to the System and System Extension Modules as
shown in Table DC power feed in Cabling for a 6+6+6 feederless configuration on a
rooftop, document Creating Flexi EDGE BTS Feederless Site Configurations.
h) Connect the internal power, bus, and RF cables for the local base as shown in
Cabling for a 6+6+6 feederless configuration on a rooftop.
8 Turn on the mains power breakers for the System Module and remote sectors.
11 Reset the BCF with RF Cabling Auto-detection using Flexi EDGE BTS Manager.
Note that adding a System Extension Module changes the internal module identifiers of
the Dual TRX and Dual Duplexer Modules that were previously connected to the System
Module. This forces the BTS to update the RF auto-detected cabling with the new
internal module identifiers for both the old and new Dual TRX Modules. This resolves
some issues that could occur during commissioning in step 12 below.
12 Save the current BTS site configuration file (SCF) to hard disk.
This allows you to reload the HW and Transmission data in step 12 below so that
existing settings such as IBBU, MHA, and passive unit details do not need to be defined
again.

15 After the BTS is successfully commissioned, tie down any loose cables. If
casings are used, re-install the font covers.
