1 General notes
1.1 General safety instructions
The Coriolis Flow Scale can only be assembled, operated and main-
tained if the user strictly observes the operating instructions. The op-
erator has to read through carefully these operating instructions, as the
manufacturer does not accept liability for damage arising from the non-
observance of these operating instructions.
- In case of problems or difficulties that cannot be done away by the user
of the Coriolis Flow Scale, the user has to contact the Brabender service
department.
- Only skilled staff is allowed to mount, operate, maintain and service the
device. Qualified staff are persons that have the according training, ex-
perience, instructions and knowledge concerning standards, regula-
tions, rules for the prevention of accidents and the plant itself and that
have been authorised by the persons that are responsible for the safety
of the installation to carry through the necessary operations and ma-
nipulations and to realise and avoid possible dangers.
- The user of the plant has to train the operating staff regularly about the
contents of the operating instructions and the safety regulations. The
operating instructions have to be kept at hand for the operator.
- The sound level according to DIN 45635 - measured with an empty
Coriolis Flow Scale - is inferior to 70dB. In case of higher sound levels
due to the product, the user will have to install a noise protection.
- No mechanical or electrical safety equipment must be disassembled or
put out of order.
- Make sure that the place of the installation provides enough free space
for the operation and possible cleaning and maintenance works of the
Coriolis Flow Scale.
G
Scope of supply of the Coriolis Flow Scale: For the static adjustment
of the load cell we supply a guide roller and a test weight suspended
from a nylon cord with an M6 screw. Please store these parts.

2 Functioning of the Coriolis Flow Scale
The Coriolis Flow Scale can be employed for all non caking, flowable
products with temperatures up to +70°C max. The Coriolis Flow Scale is
available in two construction sizes:
- CDW 150 for a maximum of 40m³/h and a constant speed of N = 650
U/min
- CDW 250 for a maximum of 100m³/h and a constant speed of N =
450 U/min

2.1 The operating conditions for a CDW
With a Coriolis Flow Scale the following operating conditions have to be
observed and respected besides the standard conditions (electric supply,
etc.):
- The Coriolis Flow Scale must only be operated if it is completely
mounted.
- After switching on, the drive motor must not adopt abruptly its oper-
ating speed, as this would necessarily damage the load cell. In its
standard execution the drive motor will be accelerated by the control
electronics in a ramp function until reaching the operating speed
(soft start of the drive motor).
- The Coriolis Flow Scale has to be equipped additionally with an
emergency cut-out device if the distance between the manipulation
unit and the Coriolis Flow Scale is to large for an emergency cut-out
that might possibly be required.
- To avoid measuring faults caused by a warm-up of the motor during
production, the drive motor has to be started app. 2 hours before the
start of the measurement. After this lead time the drive motor and the
complete mechanical weighing system have reached the operating
temperature.
- Product deposits on the impeller wheel cause an unbalance and thus
an inaccurate actual value. This has to be avoided by respecting the
maintenance and cleaning intervals (see maintenance and cleaning).
To discover unallowed unbalances the Coriolis Flow Scale can be
equipped with a vibration sensor. With the standard execution this
vibration sensor causes an alarm cut-out if the vibrations exceed the
allowed maximum value. For an adaptation to downstream processes
the vibration sensor can also be employed as fault indicator without
cut-out.
- The negative impact caused by external vibrations has to be pre-
vented by means of flexible sleeves at the inlet and the outlet and by
the use of vibration isolation pads (scope of supply).
- To provide optimum measuring conditions the Coriolis Flow Scale
needs a constant bulk material flow. For this reason, strong pulsa-
tions or even an interruption of the product flow have to be avoided.
This goes especially for upstream feeders that are controlled via the
actual value measuring of the Coriolis Flow Scale.
- The installation of downstream equipment has to be made in such a
manner that no product jams might appear.
- If the process conditions require the introduction of inert gas to avoid
oxidation processes, this is possible with a maximum pressure of 2
mbar (20mm water colon).
- After maintenance and repair works the load cell of the Coriolis Flow
Scale has to be adjusted anew.
- The determination of the Coriolis Flow Scale characteristic has to be
done by means of the Congrav controller after any mounting or
maintenance work.
- For an autotare operation of the Congrav controller the Coriolis Flow
Scale has to be started without product flow. For this operating mode
the product supply has to be stopped by means of appropriate shut-
off devices (slide valves etc.). For triggering the shut-off device, the
Congrav provides a 24 VDC signal.

2.2 Weighing of the Coriolis Flow Scale
A mounting plate is installed on the cover of the inlet cone of the Corio-
lis Flow Scale. This mounting plate carries under its hood the complete
weighing system of the Coriolis Flow Scale. Before service works on the
weighing system the hood has to be taken off be loosening the fastening
screws.
It is not allowed to operate the Coriolis Flow Scale without hood. The
The load cell functions according to the principle of wire strain gauges
and supplies a mV signal according to its loading, this signal will be
evaluated by the Congrav controller. The load cell is connected to the
force transmission lever via a flexible connection. The connection has to
be adjusted in such a manner that the load cell is under slight tensile
load (50-100g). The torque of the drive motor is transmitted to the load
cell via the force transmission lever.
Two overload protection screws permit to protect the load cell from dam-
age.
The transport catches (painted red) protect the load cell from chocks and
overloading during a transport or maintenance works. The transport
catches always have to be locked before any maintenance or repair
work. For the operation the transport catches have to be loosened com-
pletely and fastened in their operating position as illustrated.

3 Mounting of the Coriolis Flow Scale
- Transport and lifting devices that are required for the transport of
the parts to the place where the feeder is to be put in place and for
the installation itself, have to be available.
- Electrical energy (local voltage) has to be available.
- The place where the feeder is to be installed has to be protected
against possible negative impacts of the climate. With temperatures
below 0°C at the place of the installation, continuation of mounting
work cannot be guaranteed.
- The support construction of the Coriolis Flow Scale requires a stable
base construction and the possibility of fastening to the vibration
isolation pads (M10 screws).
- If the Coriolis Flow Scale is delivered with a frame construction, the
installation surface has to provide a portative base construction and
the possibility of tight anchoring.
- Works at or above the place of the installation that might impede
considerably the mounting of the feeder have to be terminated.
- The free space around the place where the feeder is to be installed
has to be dimensioned large enough, so that there is still access for
later works on the Coriolis Flow Scale, e.g. disassembly of the impel-
ler wheel (at least 2m radius around the Coriolis Flow Scale).
- A free space of at least 200mm has to be reserved on top of the drive
motor for its ventilation.
! This space is not sufficient for the disassembly of the drive motor.
For this purpose you need a minimum height of 2m.

3.2 Conditions for electrical mounting
- All electrical works must always and exclusively be done by author-
ised specialist staff.
- The local regulations for earthing and connection of the protective
system have to be strictly observed. Protective earthing always has to
be connected.
- The correct connection of protective earth with a sufficient con-
ductor cross section is generally prescribed.
- Laying of signal and control lines must be isolated from power cables,
screened and in separate ducts. The electric connection of the Corio-
lis Flow Scale is provided in the junction boxes already mounted. De-
pending on the execution of the Coriolis Flow Scale the junction
boxes are fixed to the cover or to the frame. The junction boxes are
equipped with special PG-screwings that permit wiring according to Abschirmung
screening
