SAP HANA Performance Optimization Technique

There are the following rule for performance Optimization Technique –

 All Information View and Table view should be used with a projection node.
Projection Node improves performance by narrowing the column set.
 By applying filters at projection nodes.
 Avoid JOIN nodes in calculation view, Use UNION instead of it.
 Use Input Parameters / Variable to restrict the dataset within Analytic /
Calculation View.
 The calculation should be done before aggregation.
 Hierarchies need to re-define in Calculation view, Hierarchies of attribute view
is not visible in calculation view.
 Hierarchies of attribute view is visible in Analytic view.
 The label of attribute and description of measure defined in Attribute view,
Analytic view and Calculation view will not display in calculation view. We
need to Re-Map it.
 Do Not Mix CE Function and SQL script in Information model.
Columnar and Row-Based Data Storage

The SAP HANA database supports two types of table: those that store data either
column-wise (column tables) or row-wise (row tables). SAP HANA is optimized for
column storage and this is the default table type.

Conceptually, a database table is a two dimensional data structure with cells

organized in rows and columns. Computer memory however is organized as a linear
sequence. For storing a table in linear memory, two options can be chosen as shown
below. A row store stores a sequence of records that contains the fields of one row
in the table. In a column store, the entries of a column are stored in contiguous
memory locations.

Principle of Row- and Column-Based Storage for a Table

In the SAP HANA database, tables that are organized in columns are optimized for
high-performing read operations while still providing good performance for write
operations. Efficient data compression is applied to save memory and speed up
searches and calculations. Furthermore, some features of the SAP HANA database,
such as partitioning, are available only for column tables. Column-based storage is
typically suitable for big tables with bulk updates. However, update and insert
performance is better on row tables. Row-based storage is typically suitable for small
tables with frequent single updates.

HANA Systems – 4Folders

Catalogue – will have the DB objects (schema – Logical grouping of all the DB artefacts. It
includes tables, column views, Procedures, Functions,Indexes, Sequences, Triggers, Views.
By default we have _SYS_BI & _SYS_BIC schemas.
When we can configure SLT, we get _SYS_REPO
When we can configure Predictive Analytics, we get _SYS_AFL
Also we have _SYS_STATISTICS, _SYS_SECURITY, SYS_TASK

Content- All HANA modelling content like Attribute views, Analytical views, Calculation
views, Analytic Privileges, Procedures and Decision Tables.
Provisioning – Connection to a remote source – connecting source systems to HANA as a
remote source and consume the tables as virtual tables.
Remote source -Eg., TERADATA(ODBC),HADOOP(ODBC), MSSQL(ECC Adapter), HANA
Adapter, HANA(ODBC),ORACLE(GENERIC ODBC), Twitter Adapter.
All the concepts of BODS is trying to put into this HANA as Smart data quality and
Intergration.
Smart Data Access- We can consume the tables of remote source as virtual table
Smart Data Quality Integration- If we want to do further do the transformations to the
virtual tables, we get into the Smart Data Quality Integration.
Security- Creation of Roles, Users

Analysis for OLAP/Lumira are self-servicing reporting tools where and every data set we give
will take it as a source and manipulate and try to do data discovery and analysis their side.
Crystal Reports – Pictural Reports
WebI- will do analytical report where we do drag and drop and do analysis
Design Studio is used to design application which could be a dash board.It can play 2 ways
