High Strength Wire Rope Panel

General Description

High strength wire rope panel is made by a single high tensile steel wire rope with ‘double knot’
connections, supplied with a perimetral high tensile steel wire rope. The wire rope panel is highly
galvanized (Class A) with a zinc-aluminium alloy (Zn-Al10%) coating, having CE mark. The wire rope
panel must be manufactured in an approved, quality-controlled factory listed in the CE certificate,
and shall be under the Road Material Approved List (RMAL) by JKR. Management and production
shall be certified in compliance with ISO 9001

Materials Description:

The wire rope panels are made of single high tensile steel wire rope woven with a square pattern of
250x250 mm, and the panel openings are 45 degrees inclined to the optional perimetral rope. The
weaving steel wire rope is joined at each intersection by means a ‘double knot’ connection, and the
two ends of the rope are connected through an aluminium ferrule according to EN 13411-3.

The wire ropes are made of 6x19+WSC high tensile strength steel wires (EN 12385-2 / EN 12385-
4), minimum the steel grade of the wires is 1770 N/mm2 according to EN 12385-4. The nominal
diameter of the ropes is 10 mm (EN 12385-4), and the ropes are Zn-Al10% coated Class A according
to EN 10264-2. The ‘double knot’ connections are made of two pairs of Zn-Al10% coated Class A
steel wires (EN 10244-2) with a diameter of 3 mm according to UNI EN 10218.

The perimetral wire rope is made of 6x19+WSC high tensile strength (1770 N/mm2) steel wires
according to EN 12385-2 and EN 12385-4. The nominal diameter of the perimetral rope might be 10
mm (EN 12385-4); the rope is Zn-Al10% coated Class A according to EN 10264-2. The wire rope
panel is connected to the perimetral rope by means of aluminium (Al 6060 T5) C shape ferrules.

Performance Requirement

The high strength rope panel shall be accompanied by the DOP (Declaration of Performance) that
verify:
a) Load bearing capacities (punch resistance) shall not be less than 400 + 25 kN (ISO 17746
/ UNI 11437), with a maximum ultimate punching displacement of 300 mm + 30mm.
b) Mesh tensile strength shall not be less than 255 + 15 kN/m according to ISO 17746 and
UNI 11437.
c) The double knot connection shall develop a static tear breaking resistance not lower than
26.5 + 1 kN.
d) Not more than 5% of DBR (Dark Brown Rust) after 2,000 hours of exposure to the neutral
salt spray test (ISO 9227).
e) The coating guarantees to the product an estimated working life of 50 years in a site with
a medium aggressive environmental level (C3) according to ISO 17746 – Annex A.
