Test specifications. Final Test (written test)
1. General information
 Aims: The test aims at assessing students' achievement of language skills and knowledge in business
learnt at the end of the course.
 Test takers: Test takers are non English major students in the second semester at a university who have
completed English for Business A1. They are expected to be at level A2 of CEER.
 Content:
 Listening:
 Topics: scheduling meetings, orders by phone, conversations about an office move, dealing with
delays, a change in plans
 Listening skills: Listen for main ideas and details (names, people, places, numbers, date, time, year,
phone number, prices, address, activities on special occasions and problems in workplace).
 Reading:
 Topics: employee surveys, frequently asked questions, information from a catering company, emails
about meeting room rules, past successes and challenges, a timeline about a new company, dealings
with delays, emails to a project manager, travel arrangements
 Reading skills: Read for main ideas and details (people, places, special occasions, numbers, date and
time, year, phone number, prices address, activities on special occasions and problems in workplace).
 Grammar:
 Present simple + adverbs of frequency
 Wh- and yes/no questions
 Subject and object questions
 Quantifiers of with countable and uncountable nouns
 Can / can’t (possibility/impossibility)
 There is/ there are (not) + a/an, some, any (existence)
 Past simple (regular and irregular verbs)
 Imperative to give instructions (positive and negative)
 Present continuous
 Will/ won’t (promises, agreements, decisions, offers)
 Try + verb + -ing (suggestions)
 Vocabulary:
 Jobs and tasks: Production Engineer, Sales Manager, Sales Assistant, Digital Designer, Admin
Asisstant, Finance Officer, Project Manager, IT Specialist; do research, go to meetings, write reports,
write emails, analyse data, answer the phone, make calls, process orders, travel for work.
 Orders and deliveries: deliver, order, supplier, delivery
 A company’s story: move, open, hire, launch, start, produce, create, expand, design.
 Email phrases: regards, dear employees, we appreciate your cooperation, please follow these
instructions.
 Travel arrangements: book, stay at, go by, rent, hotel, train ticket, apartment, flight, coach, plane,
bus, car.
 Airports and train stations: arrive, cancel, depart, delayed, security, taxi, change trains, gate, late,
platform, stop.
 Writing:
 Topics: an email to schedule a meeting, a survey about facilities in the workplace, a response to an
email enquiry, reply to an order enquiry, an email giving instructions, an email describing successes
and challenges, preparing for a move, a text message about an announcement, an update email.
 Content: how to schedule a meeting, write a survey to find out what people do and what facilities
they use now, how to respond to a customer’s enquiry, how to give instructions for the office move,
how to apologise and explain the reasons, how to write an update email.

 Time: 45 minutes (listening (10mins) is not included)
 The test composes of 5 parts: Listening (10 questions), Vocabulary (10 questions), Grammar (10
questions), Reading (10 questions) and Writing (1 paragraph)
