CHAPTER I
INTRODUCTION
Sport is a type of physical activity with a lot of competitions among athletes and
individuals. It can also be a part of a fun activity or also be a professional career.
There is no age limit, abilities, and bias in sports.
The sport competition events are organized according to gender, age, and weight.
In every sport’s event, participants are divided into groups to show their performance
to the category. There are many officials and volunteers to organize a beautiful sports
competition. Participants may misuse the drug to enhance performance through
medicines or sports drink items. But sportspeople may use legal drugs, which is
allowed by the competition committee. Those of the participants who misuse the drug
may be checked by the committee before and after the competition. Sport allows the
youth to have a positive attitude and role models. Sports reduce the crime report. It
helps the people of the community to bring happiness, unity, togetherness among
them. It prevents the youths from drugs, avoids negative mindsets. Sport brings the
pride of the country, state, and community of their people and family.
In today’s modern world, football is one of the most popular games in the world.
Football is a game where two teams are playing with 11 players of each team. It
involves all the body parts except hands and arms using hand is allowed only the
goalkeeper in a particular area (penalty area). The team who scores more will be the
winner of the match, if any of the team doesn’t score then it is known as a draw or tie.
It is played in a rectangular field with natural grass or artificial grass which is
permitted by FIFA or the organization of the particular tournament.
Even the team that loses a match shouldn’t give up, they need to analyze all the
mistakes which were made in the particular match or even the players get injured.
Anxiety is a state of natural response that feels unpleasant in our body. Anxiety
comes in the individual's thoughts according to their different situations. It occurs
when we do or try new things that are different from the previous task. If we recall
anxiety from the previous task, it is frequently happening in our today’s lifestyle or in
any tough competition. We can compare a task from a football match that a player
takes a penalty during the match and takes a penalty in the shoot-out. We have noticed
that the player who is taking a penalty kick during the match will have less
nervousness than the player who takes a penalty in the shoot-out. The player who
takes the penalty in the shoot-out may have more stress, nervousness, tension, less
confidence, increased heart-beat.
Anxiety can bring you in the way with a lot of negative either positive
thoughts. We can relate anxiety with games & sports of today’s world. As a supporter
or fans of any particular sports who attend at the stadium to watch the performance of
the player that they choose, if the particular player doesn’t get a good result or doesn’t
expose with high performance then they can be unstable, feel pressure, and increase
the stress level.
Also not only the psychological part, the physiology helps the players to give
best performance in the match or competition. Both the psychology and physiology
have to be equivalent do better in the game and control. The anxiety level increases
will affect the game and individual performance during the competition. So,
physiologically the athlete should be strong along with mentally tough. Physiological
variables are well maintain trained in the training session.
Hence, my study will find out the correlation between the psychological
variable and physiological variable among football players.
