Thank you for buying JRC Optional Feature Kit for Ship Radar.
This equipment is the AIS information display kit built in the JMA-7000/9000 Radar Series as an
option.
• Before using the equipment, read this operation manual carefully to ensure proper operation.
• This manual describes only information about the operation of the Automatic Identification System
(AIS) that is the optional feature.
For details on the operation of the radar, read the JMA-7000/9000 Series Operation Manual.
• Store this operation manual carefully so that it can be accessed when necessary.
If the operation becomes unclear or defective conditions are encountered, make use of this operation
manual.
Note:
This AIS I/F option has been checked for its operation on the JRC AIS (JHS-180、JHS-182) only.

Automatic activation
To perform automatic activation, set the Guard Zone for ARPA ON. For details on how to set the
Guard Zone, refer to the explanation of "Setting Guard Zone" in Section 3, "Basic Operation" in the
Radar Instruction Manual.

1.9. AIS Area Setting
AIS area
Setting the AIS area enables search and display of an AIS target in its area preferentially.
AIS target search explained in Section 1.6 also enables display of a target outside the area.
If more than 20 targets exist, they are displayed according to the priority described in "Maximum
number of targets and priority of display" in Section 1.12, "AIS Symbol Display."
Note:
Validating the guard zone automatically re-sets the AIS area range in the guard zone.

1.10. Prioritization of AIS Target and ARPA symbology.
If an AIS target and an ARPA target come close to each other, the two symbols overlap each other
and become difficult to view. When both targets approach each other at a certain distance, this
function temporarily hides the ARPA target to display the AIS symbol preferentially.
An ARPA target within the set prioritization distance from the activated AIS target is assumed to be
an identical target, and does not appear.

1.11. Target Lost Condition
Lost
Lost is deleting target data when AIS target data cannot be received for a given length of time. The
time spent before data is deleted depends on the class of data to be received and the target status as
follows:
Reference
• If a dangerous ship is lost, a lost alarm sounds and the symbol changes to a lost symbol. The current
position is predicted based on the last received data and the symbol continues to be displayed for up to
one minute. If data cannot be received even after elapse of one minute, the symbol is deleted.
• Even if a safe ship is lost, an alarm does not sound and the lost symbol is not displayed.
1-16
1.12. AIS Symbol Display
The JMA-9000 series radar displays up to 20 AIS symbols. If more than 20 AIS targets exist, they
are displayed according to the following prioritization:
1. Target once selected for numeric readouts and Target displayed by AIS target search.
2. Target whose CPA and TCPA are less than the setting value (target for which an alarm is
raised as a dangerous ship). And target displayed by AIS SEARCH.
3. Target in the AIS AREA (in the AREA, the target at a closer range from own ship has a
higher priority.)
4. Target outside the AIS AREA (order in which it is at a closer distance from own ship)
Note:
th
When target data for the 20 ship is received, the message "AIS MAX TARGET" appears on the lower
right of the screen.
Reference
For AIS target search, see Section 1.4, "AIS Target Search."
• Ground stabilized or water stabilized vector for the AIS symbol is displayed according to the setting of
speed measurement equipment. Which vector is currently displayed can be determined from the own
ship information display area on the lower left of the screen.
• When stabilized water vector for the AIS symbol is displayed, the ground stabilized vector from the
AIS is converted to the water stabilized vector for display based on the data received from AIS and
own ship information.
Note:
Even if an AIS symbol is activated, no vector may appear in the following cases:

1.14. Restrictions
In addition to the restrictions described in the previous explanation of the operation, there are the
following restrictions on the operation of AIS function:
• When the AIS function is on and the instrument for measuring speed is set to LOG
(Reference)
For selection of speed measurement equipment, refer to "Setting own ship's speed" in Section 5.1,
"Initial Setting" and "Ship speed Setting" and "SET/DRIFT Setting" in Section 8.6, "Setting" in the
Radar Instruction Manual.
