PCA-Ethical Communities Worksheet

Worksheet Objectives:
1. Describe the four ethical communities
2. Apply the ethical communities to your personal case situation

Complete the following making sure to support your ideas and cite from the textbook and other
course materials per APA guidelines. After the peer review, you have a chance to update this and
format for your Electronic Portfolio due in Module 6.

1) Briefly restate your situation from Module 1 and your role.

Cactus Credit Union, located in Arizona, is the largest credit union in the state. As a Process

Analyst, my team and I have been assigned to explore the benefits of Robotic Process

Automation (RPA). This technology helps to streamline and automate repetitive processes that

are typically done manually. However, this assignment is challenging for us because we lack

experience with RPA. To achieve the desired results, our team needed to identify an RPA vendor

who could help us identify candidate processes for automation. After having gained the

necessary knowledge, it was important to quickly automate the process.

2) Describe how the ethics of the organization influenced the situation.

As the banking industry deals with people's finances, many of its processes are subjected to

government regulations. It goes without saying that maintaining ethical standards is a

fundamental part of this industry's identity. To ensure compliance, millions are spent each year

on creating training programs, running audit departments, and retaining employees with

exceptional skills.

1
The organization considers ethics to be a crucial aspect of its policies, procedures, and

outputs. However, with growth and an increase in customers, the quality of the work might be

affected. Assigning too much work to one individual can lead to more errors, especially when

dealing with manual processes. As a result, they believe RPA will make a great impact on the

organization.

3) Recommend how you would apply one of the ethical communities for an alternative

course of action regarding your case.

For this scenario, I would apply the Family ethical community to find an alternative approach

to RPA. People feel a sense of unity through human exchanges that form the soul of a

community (Bolman & Deal, 2021). Although the organization recognizes the problem it is

facing, its approach is non-sensical. Such a large initiative should be discussed through several

areas of the organization. All leaders should be given the opportunity to raise their concerns so

they are properly addressed in the solution.

It would be beneficial to involve multiple teams to provide diverse perspectives on the

implementation and effects of RPA. Additionally, organizational leaders should be open and

transparent about why they choose not to hire consultants to guide their current teams through

this significant change. The program's delay is commonly attributed to budget constraints.

Nevertheless, unsuccessful RPA implementation risks are well-known.

4) Reflect on what you would do or not do differently given what you have learned about

ethics.

After gaining a better understanding of ethics and its impact on organizations, I believe it is

necessary to address my concerns on this matter. Communication has been an issue around this

2
topic because everyone is new to the technology. Although I may not have the authority to make

final decisions regarding the project plan, I can bring attention to my observations to other

leaders. Furthermore, I will provide my recommendations for a successful implementation.
