Financial Analytics
COURSE OBJECTIVE:
To provide a strong foundation of Investment and Capital Market.
To provide a strong foundation in financial analytics in order to handle complex
financial data.
To build the financial models for analyzing the Time Value of Money.
To build advanced analytical models to gauge the risk and return in capital market.
UNIT I
Introduction: Concepts of investment, Financial and Non-financial forms of investment,
Objectives of financial investment, Investment methods, Security and non-security forms of
investment, Sources of investment information, Investment instruments.
Primary and Secondary Markets: Capital Market, Introduction to Primary Market, Forms
of marketability of securities, Functioning of stock exchanges, Trading and settlement
procedures at NSE and BSE, SEBI: Its role, importance.
UNIT II
Risk: Concept and Components of total risk-security returns: Types of Risk, Risk
measurement.
Fundamental and Technical Analysis of equity stock, Concept of intrinsic value,
Objectives and beliefs of fundamental analysts, Economy-Industry-Company framework,
Economic analysis and forecasting, Theory of technical analysis, Points and figures chart,
Bar chart etc.
UNIT-III
Financial modeling: Introduction, working capital, financial modeling, Steps in financial
modeling, Excel in Modeling, Advanced excel tools for modeling
Practical: Time Value of Money: INTEREST FUNCTIONS, Simple interest, compound
interest, effect of compounding frequencies, Constant Annuities, Growing Annuities, and
Loan Amortization
UNIT-IV
Analyzing Database: Mutual Fund: Shorting, Filtering Tables, Pivot Table
Financial Functions: Annuity function, Investment Analysis Functions, Bond Functions,
Depreciation Function
Bond Pricing and Duration: Bond Valuation, Par value, coupon rate, maturity, EAR vs
APR, Risks of bond investing, Bond yield curve
Analysing Market History: Indexes, Measuring Returns, Building Model to Calculate Total
Returns.
Risk Measurement: Range, variance, Beta. Calculating Beta, Building Model to Calculate
multi sector data and its interpretation.

and Supply chain Management.
