The required field experience was taken in Lake Worth ISD, located in Lake Worth. These observations

took place in Mrs. Lemond's class for third grade which teaches reading at Howry Steam Academy.

The student's seats are arranged in groups of 4 students. There are computers which are located at the

front of the classroom with each student's assigned number. There is various chart such as new words

they learn, at the front of the class there is a chart of all the books they have read. The teacher's desk is

located straight from the class and on the side there is a table for her and a chair for when the teacher

works with students. There is also a smartboard close to the teacher's desk which students would work

on when the teacher does lessons on it. The class was very colorful it felt a good vibe which students

enjoyed, and the lighting was soft she put the sheet on the light panel to not make it as bright.

Lesson

The teacher starts with material taught previously with questions and students are required to

raise their hand and answer as a group. The teacher would clap her hands as a beat and say class class

which students will repeat. The teacher has on the smart board what would be done in class and

everyone is expected to listen to the teacher. The teacher introduces the lesson before even starting by

talking about the cover or the story. The teks is “I will …. make predictions about what a character is

likely to do”. Which is trying to guess what the character is about or what the character will do next. I

noticed a lot of kids liked this before getting right into the material it helps them break down the story.

The teacher read a book to the teacher which will pause and ask questions such as what's happening,

and what you predict will happen after, and students were able to participate and raise their hand.

The whiteboard was one of the main things used during class and books. As the teacher ended

the book they lasted one time before students started talking to each other and discussing the book. A

couple of minutes later pass by and they discuss it as a class. For the next lesson, they work on words

and how they sound since many words sound the same way. They did a game where a student would go

in the front and act out a word for the students to try to guess it. The student that acts it out gets a

sticker as a reward and can choose their sticker, the person that gets it right will go up in the front. Which

I we’re able to notice students enjoyed that and everyone participated in the activity they were excited

about they said it more as a game. Being able to have some sort of reward will help the students get

more excited about an activity being able to see it more as a game than something mandatory, as they

see all the kids are enjoying everyone will join.

Students understanding

The teacher asked the book such as what was happening, and what will happen afterward. As

they move to learning new words and how a lot of words sound similar she would ask students to do the

sound. Will help students to pronounce it well and with what rhymes well. Mrs. Lemond provides about

1 or so minutes and then will help students or give the answer. If a student gets an answer wrong she

will help the student with the questions and remind them is okay if they don’t get the right answer. The

teacher checks for understanding with individual students by hearing students' conversations and

helping them as they go.

Overall I enjoyed going to this observation and was able to learn a lot she had a lot of

expectations for students, she wanted every student to feel comfortable that they were able to sit

anywhere such as at a desk, calm down corner, or a corner to work when is individual work. During that

time teacher would work with some students and ask them questions to help them understand.
