    Why Auxiliary View?

    Orthographic projection - The 6 principle views


    ❑ None of the views shows True Shape of Surface
    ABCD
    Auxiliary View
    – an orthographic view projected onto a plane
    other than the principal planes.
    To find
    • true shape of inclined or
    oblique surface.
    • true length
    • true angle
    • shortest distance
    • Viewing plane must be
    parallel to the surface to
    get true size and
    shape.
    • Projectors must be
    perpendicular to plane
    How to draw Auxiliary View?

    Points to note:
    1. Auxiliary Plane placed
    parallel to inclined face of
    object or perpendicular to
    the direction of viewing
    (LOS)
    2. Projector must be
    perpendicular to auxiliary
    plane.
    3. To draw auxiliary plan –
    project from Front View and
    transfer distance from Plan
    or Side view
    AB on Plan View is the True length
    for point AB on the Front View.

    Note: To draw an Auxiliary Plan


    1. Project from FV
    2. Transfer vertical distance
    from Plan or Side view

    • Instead of using one of the planes of projection, you can use a
    reference plane parallel to the plane of projection that touches
    or cuts through the object.
