Introduction

Introduction In years to come, I will have a good look at the future and what I would like

to do with myself. I would like to be a pediatric neurologist. A medical doctor who specializes in

diagnosing and treating diseases of the brain, spinal cord and nerves. Diagnosing and treating

children with a spectrum of neurodevelopmental disorders. I find this occupation interesting

because it seems like a fascinating experience. Also because it involves me spending time

treating the intricate workings of the brain and nervous system. I always wanted to work with

kids, with whatever occupation I picked, but at this moment my heart is more towards pediatric

neurology. I know that with this career I would be dealing with complex anatomy and I am

looking forward to that type of job. Not only am I looking forward to anatomy but I also have a

strong liking for neuroscience which I know will have a lot to do with what my career holds.

Participants

There are many types of neurology doctors as in Pediatric neurology, neuro-oncology,

clinical neuropsychology, vascular neurology, neurointensive care and many more. According to

Highland departments-centers neurologist study various things “ specialized training in

diagnosing, treating, and managing disorders of the brain and nervous system including, but not

limited to, Alzheimer's disease, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), concussion, epilepsy,

migraine, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson's disease, and stroke.”

Neurologists work in healthcare directed environments. This includes private practice,

clinics, or hospitals. Some neurologists specialize in a certain disorder or disease, and can study

either or on their own.

According to https://my.clevelandclinic.org/health/articles/22277-neurologist “ A

neurologist knows the anatomy, function and conditions that affect your nerves and nervous

system. Your nervous system is your body's command center.”

Neurologists vs neurosurgeons. The two work very close together but in the same sense

are extremely different, and often get confused as being the same thing which is not the case.

Neurologists DO NOT perform brain or spinal cord surgery. Which neurologists are mainly to

discover and diagnose, and can treat patients with medicine and or therapy treatments than a

neurosurgeon actually takes on the job of doing the procedure

As of right now, in highschool I just engaged in active extracurriculars. I play volleyball,

which I have been doing for a long time now. In highschool I have been playing since freshman

year. This season was my third year doin volleyball. Also, I step for bull city lex, which I enjoy

doing both. Been participating in step since 9th grade. Gives me time to do something I love, and

volunteering etc.

Academically, I am hoping to join the technical honor society. Also, student government.

As I hear they give you many opportunities to do many things you love such as math, science,

dancing, art or anything.

This summer, I would like to do a medical internship at a college. I've heard many great

opportunities it gives, and many wonderful things about it. You learn more, get to study different

research, and you also get paid for the opportunities professionals give out.

Body #3

My top 3 schools are Emory. ECU, and UNCC. My dream school is Emory, my two

realistic schools are ECU and UNCC. So, I'm going to start getting ready to do and take part in

what my top three schools are mainly looking for in their students.

I know that ECU's GPA is 3.5-3.8. But at ECU you can have a minimum of a 2.5. Also, “

East Carolina University has an acceptance rate of 92%. Half the applicants admitted to East

Carolina University who submitted test scores have an SAT score between 1040 and 1240 or an

ACT score of 18 and 24.”

I know at UNCC a minimum 2.0 cumulative college GPA for all college-level courses is

required. But high school grade point average points at an 3.4 and up. “ Admission to Charlotte

requires graduation from an accredited high school with specific high school academic courses

and a competitive cumulative high school GPA in those academic areas.”

According to Emory University, “ To have the best shot of getting in, you should aim for

the 75th percentile, with a 1520 SAT or a 34 ACT. You should also have a 3.78 GPA or higher. If

your GPA is lower than this, you need to compensate with a higher SAT/ACT score.

Body #4/5

There are various things I need to do in college to succeed, which I know there will be

hard times but I would most importantly tell myself to stay on top of things in general.

One thing I believe would be very useful is to stay organized. I can use “ time

management" to keep track of daily routines and stay on track of assignments and activities. Also

most importantly, study time. Having good management skills to balance my education,

activities, and daily responsibilities. Prioritizing my time in the best way.

Another thing is, get help when I need it. Going and saying with an open mind, asking

questions, not hesitating about help if I need it. Using whatever resources I have, such as

counseling, advisors etc.

Last thing is, stay level-headed. Knowing that college can be a big step staying level

minded is important. Never get discouraged even if I think I will. Taking the most care of myself

knowing that college can be demanding. Do my normal daily routines. Don’t procrastinate, just

get it down, it’s for the best. Do what’s best for me, enjoy, and make it unique and my own way!

Post college plans

My post college plans have a very good sequence to it. So, after I graduate from my 4th

year, I will attend graduate school to receive my bachelors and masters degree. I Think I will

take an MCAT test. So then I will apply for medical school. Then, I WILL get into medical

school.

I will work in medical school and get the medical hours I need for what I want to pursue

in the future. Then, I will spend 4 years in medical school. Then an additional 3-7 years in

residency working up to be a doctor. After all my schooling, I will apply for my dream job as a

Pediatric Neurologist.

I would also like to get involved in research doing medical school years, which will help

my understanding of neurology. I can build connections with other healthcare professions, even

neurologists, doctors etc. In my early stages I can get mentored or even conduct collaborations.

Once I complete residency, I will specialize in my specific category of neurology I want to do

such as “ pediatrics “.

Continuing my education, with workshops, mentorships, conferences etc. I can also

volunteer in different programs that relate to neurology, which can help me gain more

experiences and advancements in this career. Overall, I will keep working hard, stay passionate,

ans=d do what I have to do to achieve amazing things in the future

Conclusion

Overall, I always will have a passion for this occupation and even the opportunity to

work and help with kids in my future. So becoming an pediatric neurologist is what I choose.

I would like to help everyone, but most importantly I want to help children. To take their

parents, family, friends worries away, I want to take my time to treat children knowing their

young and have a life ahead of them. In my opinion being a neurologist is important to me

because it allows me to make a significant impact on lives.

I will have the opportunity to diagnose aand treat neurolgical conditions that children

battling, which will improve their quality of life so they can enjoy and live it to the fullest.

Helping them be their best self. Additionally, I already want to major in neuroscience so in my

opinion im already one step ahead. Which contribute to me having an better understanding of

neurology in general. Which is very meaningful to me.

I like the idea of specializing in the nervous system and spinal cord. Being able to help

and make a difference in people with neurological problems. Their is an shortage of neurologist

in the world, My desire to help is vaulable, which I will put all my dedication to it. I will keep

pursing my dreams.
