HDFC Bank Pledges to Plant 10,000 Trees in Punjab


Under its CSR brand Parivartan, the Bank commits to growing a heritage
forest - the “Virasati Jungle"

Patiala, September 25, 2023: HDFC Bank, India’s leading private sector bank, today
announced that it has pledged to planting 10,000 trees in Patiala district, Punjab. The Bank,
under its CSR brand Parivartan, has committed to growing a heritage forest, known as the
“Virasati Jungle" in Mandour village of the state.

Under the Go Green initiative, HDFC Bank identified four acres of land to cultivate the “Virasati
Jungle” with saplings like kikar, neem, jamun, moringa, and many more. The first phase of the
plantation drive began with the inauguration by Mrs Kuldeep Kaur, Sarpanch, Village Gram
Panchayat – Mandaur. Mr Rajpal Singh, State Head, Operations – Punjab and Jammu &
Kashmir, HDFC Bank and Mr Rajesh Gupta, Regional Head, Operations, North, HDFC Bank
were also present at the occasion. HDFC Bank will continue to support and monitor further
progress of the plantation.

Nusrat Pathan, Head-CSR, HDFC Bank said, “Conservation of environment is one of the key
focus areas under HDFC Bank Parivartan. We run plantation drives under our Go Green
initiative across the country. We have initiated a mass plantation drive and by far planted over
10 lakh trees under our commitment to combat climate change. In Punjab itself, we have
planted over 38 lakh trees so far as on 30th June 2023. The plantation of “Virasati Jungle”
contributes to the ecological well-being of the nation and will go a long way in contributing
towards a sustainable future for the people of Punjab.”

HDFC Bank's CSR is implemented under the aegis of Parivartan, which is the umbrella brand
for all its social initiatives. It focuses on five areas: Rural Development, Education, Skill
Development and Livelihood Enhancement, Healthcare and Hygiene, and Financial Literacy
and Inclusion.

HDFC Bank was among the top CSR spenders in the country for the financial year ended
March 2023. As on 31st March 2023, the Bank spent Rs 820.89 crore on CSR initiatives. The
Bank also expanded its impact by reaching more than 9.93 crore beneficiaries cumulatively
as of March 2023.
