Section – I: Design Basis, Treatment Scheme & Treatment Process

Flow rate: 600 m3/day

Nature of wastewater: Combined Sewage

Characteristics of inlet/outlet of STP: (Assumed)

The characteristics of the raw sewage assumed are given below:

Sr. No. Parameters Unit Value

1 pH - 6.5 - 8.5
2 Biochemical Oxygen Demand (BOD) mg/L 200 – 300
3 Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD) mg/L 400 – 550
4 Total Suspended Solids (TSS) mg/L 200 – 350
5 Oil & Grease mg/L 10 – 15

Treated Sewage Quality (After Tertiary Treatment):

The required characteristics of treated sewage as per PCB are given below:

Sr. No. Parameters Unit Value

1 pH - 6.5 – 9.0
2 Biochemical Oxygen Demand (BOD) mg/L < 20
3 Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD) mg/L < 100
4 Total Suspended Solids (TSS) mg/L ≤ 10
5 Oil & Grease mg/L ≤ 10
Note: Treated water quality is subject to inlet raw sewage parameters. Any change in inlet parameters
will change treated sewage quality accordingly.

Mode of disposal of treated water:- Recycling in irrigation, horticulture, landscaping.

Treatment Scheme:

Screening, Oil & Grease removal, collection, equalization and transfer of wastewater to MBBR tank.

Biological treatment of wastewater using MBBR Technology.

Secondary clarification of biologically treated wastewater in tube settler.

Disinfection of treated water using sodium hypochlorite.

Filtration of chlorinated treated water through pressure sand filter & activated carbon filter.

Reuse of treated water in horticulture & plantation & tertiary treatment.

Sludge treatment through filter bag mechanism.

Section – II: Technical Notes Regarding Our Proposal

STP shall be compact, smell free and shall consume less power.

Bar Screen: The Bar Screen of MSEP material is considered in the scope for better life. Bar screen of 10 mm
spacing is considered. The screen can be easily removed & cleaned as required.

Oil & Grease Removal: We have proposed manually cleaned oil & grease trap with baffle arrangement for
removal of oil & grease coming from kitchen/cafeteria for better & smell free biological process.

Equalization Tank: We have proposed collection cum equalization tank in RCC below the ground level. All
other tanks of STP in RCC can be built fully/partly above the ground as required. The tanks can be covered
from the top, if required and access manholes can be provided. The tank is provided with air distribution
piping with adequate number of Coarse Bubble diffusers.

MBBR Reactor: Aeration is provided through air blowers for decomposition of organic compounds in presence
of aerobic bacteria.

Settlement Phase
Immediately after the aeration, settlement/clarification occurs. Once aeration has stopped, the sludge settles.
The conditions in the basin become anoxic. Further carbonaceous oxidation and denitrification occur during
this phase.
Carbonaceous oxidation and denitrification continue to occur during this phase. Surplus sludge is wasted to
the sludge thickener during this phase. This is accomplished using desludge pump with proper flow control.

Media Filtration & Carbon Filtration System: The clarified & chlorinated water is pumped to Media Filter
followed by Carbon Filter to further polish the treated effluent. The Sand filter removes the suspended solids
and the Carbon Filter removes color & odor.
