Bert: Wait! Don't move. Don't move a muscle. Stay right where you are. I'd know that
silhouette anywhere! Mary Poppins!

Mary 1: It's nice to see you again, Bert. I expect you know Jane and Michael.

Bert: Well, I've seen 'em here and about. Chasin' a kite last time, weren't it?

Jane: Mary Poppins is taking us to the park.

Bert: To the park? Not if I know Mary Poppins. Other nannies take children to the
park. When you're with Mary Poppins, suddenly you're in places you've never
dreamed of. And quick as you can say "Bob's your uncle," the most unusual things
begin to happen.

Mary 1: I'm sure I haven't the faintest idea what you're talking about.

Bert: Well mind, it's not my place to say, but what she's probably got in mind, is a
jolly holiday somewheres or other.

Jane: Oh, that's lovely. If you please, I'd much rather go there.

Bert: Beautiful, ain't it? A typical English countryside, as done by a true and lovin'
hand. Though you can't see it, there's a little country fair down that road and uh, over
the hill.

Michael: I don't see any road.

Bert: What? No road? Just wants a bit of somethin' here, and a bit of somethin'
there. There. A country road suitable for travel and high adventure.

Jane: Please may we go, Mary Poppins? Please? Such a lovely place. Don't you
think it's lovely, Mary Poppins?

Bert: Now's the time, Mary Poppins. No one's lookin'.

Jane & Michael: Please, Mary Poppins. Please! Please, Mary Poppins. Please!

Mary 1: I have no intention of making a spectacle of myself, thank you.

Bert: All right, I'll do it myself.

1
Mary 1: Do what?

Bert: Bit of magic.

Michael: A bit of magic?

Bert: It's easy. Let's see. You think. You wink. You do a double blink. You close your
eyes and jump.

Jane: Is something 'sposed to happen?

Mary 1: Bert, what utter nonsense! Ohh! Why do you always complicate things that
are really quite simple? Give me your hand, please, Michael. Don't slouch. One, two.

Enter animals and other characters.

Bert: Mary Poppins, you look beautiful.

Mary 2: Do you really think so?

Bert: Cross my heart you do. Like the day I met ya.

Mary 2: You look fine, too, Bert.

Michael: Look at all the animals…those penguins are wearing bow ties!

Penguin 1: Good day Mary Poppins!

Penguin 2: It’s so wonderful to see you again.

Penguin 3: Please sit down. You can anything you like on the entire menu.

Penguin 4: Free of charge of course.

Penguin 2: They’ll be no bill for you today.

Penguin 1: It’s always a jolly holiday with you around!

JOLLY HOLIDAY – SONG

Mary 2: You’re all very kind.

Penguin 2: It’s our pleasure.

Penguin 3: You children are very lucky to have Mary as your Nanny.

Penguin 4: Do you know that?

Jane: Oh yes, we really do.

2
Pig 1: It’s so nice to meet some more of Mary’s friends.

Dog: Any friend of Mary’s is a friend of ours!

Photographer: If you ever need a portrait Mary, I’d be happy to oblige.

Cow: You really are beautiful Mary.

Photographer: The fairest in any painting!

Lamb: Please take these flowers as a token of our affection.

Pig 2: We picked them especially for you.

Mary 2: Oh, how lovely.

Pig 1: We hope you love them as much as we love you!

Pig 2: I chose the colours! White and red to match your dress.

Fan: You’ve always been my idol. Do you mind if we get an autograph Mary?

Mary 2: I’d be more than happy-

Geese 1: We’d also like one if that’s ok.

Geese 2: You’re our role model Mary.

Geese 3: Whenever you’re around, everything is so much nicer…

Geese 1: So much happier…

Geese 2: So much jollier…

Mary hands them each an autograph.

Geese 3: Thank you so much! I’ll treasure this forever.

Lamb: Isn’t she the loveliest lady you’ve ever met?

Cow: I shall be so sad when her visit comes to an end.

Dog: Oh, don’t make me cry.

Cat: I think we’re going to need some tissues over here.

Donkey: Calm down. She hasn’t left yet. She’s only just arrived!

Pig 2: What brings you’re here Mary?

3
Michael: We wanted to have an adventure!

Pig 1: Mary certainly knows how to have adventures!

Dog: Yes, you’ve come to the right place!

Donkey: Move, out of my way. I want to get closer so that I can ask Mary if she’d
like me to give her a ride.

Cat: But I was here first. Just wait your turn.

Photographer: Alright now, stand back everyone. Stop crowding the poor Miss.
Hold still now, watch for the dickie bird.

Reporter: And how does it feel Mary, being so popular?

Mary 2: Uh – well…

Reporter: Being loved by everyone whom you meet?

Mary 2: Well I -

Reporter: Having your picture taken for the newspaper?

Photographer: And what a smashing picture it is!

Mary 2: Uh, oh, actually, I'm delighted.

Penguin 4: She’s so modest!

Cat: A true English rose.

Fan: There probably aren't words to describe your emotions.

Mary 2: On the contrary, there's a very good word. Am I right, Bert?

Bert: Oh yes, I know. Well, tell 'em what it is.

Photographer: Yes, please do tell us!

Geese 1, 2, 3: I think I feel a song coming on!
