INTRODUCTION
Prayer facilities refer to the amenities and infrastructure provided for Muslims to perform
their daily prayers. These facilities are essential for the Muslim community to fulfill their
religious obligations. They typically include prayer halls, ablution areas, and prayer mats.
Prayer halls are usually designed to accommodate a large number of worshippers and are
equipped with facilities such as microphones, speakers, and prayer mats. Ablution areas are
designated spaces where Muslims perform ritual washing before prayer. These areas are
equipped with taps, basins, and other necessary amenities. Prayer mats are used by
Muslims to kneel and prostrate during prayer and are usually provided by the facility. Overall,
s facilities play a crucial role in providing a conducive environment for Muslims to perform
their daily prayers in peace and comfort.
B) BASIC PRAYING FACILITIES NEEDED BASED ON MUSLIM-FRIENDLY
HOSPITALITY PRACTICES
Prayer Room or Musallah: A designated area within the premises where Muslims
can perform their daily prayers. It should be clean, quiet, and have appropriate lighting.
The prayer room should have a sign indicating its purpose and be easily accessible.
Qibla Direction: The Qibla is the direction towards the Kaaba in Mecca, which
Muslims face during their prayers. Providing an indicator or a labeled arrow pointing
towards the Qibla direction in the prayer room can help Muslims determine the correct
orientation for their prayers.
Prayer Mats: Offering clean and available prayer mats in the prayer room allows
guests to perform their prayers comfortably. These mats should be clean, in good
condition, and readily accessible for use.
Space: The prayer room should have sufficient space to accommodate multiple
individuals comfortably, especially during busy times, such as congregational prayers on
Fridays or during religious holidays.
Signage and Instructions: Clear signage indicating the prayer room's location and
its purpose helps Muslim guests easily locate the facility. Instructions or guidelines on
how to use the prayer room respectfully can also be displayed.
Discreet and Respectful Design: The prayer room should be designed with
sensitivity towards Islamic customs, respecting modesty and privacy. It should be
separate from other areas, preferably gender-segregated, and designed to maintain a
peaceful and serene atmosphere.
