Malnutrition

Lack of Public Health Assistance

Death
b. A written explanation of the framework/diagram

Due to poverty, the family of Jaime is experiencing

hunger, and all of their children are in 2nd degree
malnutrition, including Rosario. The poor
sanitation is one of the reasons why Rosario died,
because her mother does not know how to sanitize
the bottle of milk and water. Malnutrition is also one
of the reasons, because Lucy fed her baby with
inappropriate milk, which is condensed milk and
Bear Brand, because she was never taught how to
properly mix milk, so for her it is enough to turn the
water white. Measles is the major cause of death of
Rosario. Since there was a lack of public health
assistance, the measles in Rosario were not
immediately cured. As a result, the poor baby faced
death.
C. An inclusion of a sociological theory that explains the issue
discussed in the story.

The structural-functionalist approach to

poverty is a sociological perspective that holds
that all aspects of society, including poverty,
contribute to the overall system's stability in
some way. Poverty is the major issue
discussed in the story, which is one of the
reasons Rosario died. Economic production,
the basic essentials of life were difficult to
come by for most families, and family
members had to work together to produce
what they needed to survive. Secondly, care
of the sick was discussed in the story, but
there was a lack of public health assistance
from the government. Thirdly, sexual control
of members, which Lucy and Jaime did not
know about the family planning. As a result,
they have four children, but one of them died
because they could not meet some of the
necessities in life.
