INTERSEXIONS TITLE SEQUENCE (30 seconds) *

PREVIOUSLY ON: Nomzamo and Zolile go to the beach together.

Lwazi exiles Zolile. Zolile demands to know what Lwazi isn’t
telling him. Zolile and Khanya break up. Rosie and Zakes get
cosy in his bedroom. Bontle arrives with shopping thanks to
Godwin, her suga daddy. Khanya and Zakes kiss. Rosie drops the
condom. Two-Step is the poster boy for a the deodorant
campaign. Sizwe and Two-Step kiss. Rea asks Two-Step if he is
gay. Two-Step sleeps with Rea. Sizwe walks out on Two Step.
Sizwe and Bontle move in together. Godwin confronts Bontle at
the church. Sizwe watches. Bontle goes with Godwin. Bontle
confides in Lorraine. Bontle dumps Godwin. Lorraine offers her
support. Lorraine and Montsho argue. Lorraine is raped.
Lorraine holds a gun to Montsho’s head but cannot shoot him.
Montsho is arrested. The community rallies around Lorraine.

1 INT. MXONGO HOUSE. BEDROOM. NIGHT. *

An OPULENT BEDROOM in a WATERKLOOF (PRETORIA) mansion. Godwin,

(late 30s), well-groomed and well kept, lounges on the bed,
reading on his TABLET. He’s in vestiges of evening wear -
formal pants, a crisp white shirt with the sleeves rolled up,
silk socks. An EXPENSIVE SUIT JACKET and TIE are carelessly
flung over a nearby CHAIR.

THANDEKA, his wife (mid-30’s), elegant and manicured, enters

in an evening gown. She’s already removing her earrings.
Godwin glances up.

GODWIN
The kids asleep?

Thandeka throws goes to the vanity, and removes her diamond

earrings, an eyecatching necklace, and several bracelets.

THANDEKA
They are. I gave them a goodnight
kiss for you.

GODWIN
And the au-pair? *

Thandeka finishes removing her jewelry, and gives him a grin.

THANDEKA
I got her a taxi. I don’t know what
I’d do without Gadima.

Thandeka steps closer. Godwin cocks a playful eyebrow.

GODWIN
Do you really want to talk about the
nanny right now?

THANDEKA
(grinning)
She’s not a nanny. She’s an au-pair. *

GODWIN *
(groaning) *
I don’t want to talk about her! *

THANDEKA *
What do you want to talk about? *

Thandeka turns, and moves her hair aside. Godwin unzips her
dress.

GODWIN
How about we talk about Thandeka
Mxongo, South African Businesswoman *
of the year. Who, by the way, I’m
about to sleep with.

Thandeka gives him a saucy smile, as he trails his hand up her

now-naked back.

THANDEKA
Are you now? And why would I be
interested in your proposition?

Godwin trails kisses up her back.

GODWIN
(between kisses)
Because... my proposition... offers
substantial... returns...

Thandeka pushes him back onto the bed. He scoots back. *

Thandeka, locking eyes, lets her dress drop. She steps out of
it, and slowly slides up Godwin, until she is straddling him.
Looking down at him, she grins.

THANDEKA
Sounds too good to be true. What’s
the catch?

Godwin grabs her and flips, so that he’s on top, Thandeka *

beneath him.

GODWIN
I make the rules.

He trails kisses up her neck. Thandeka arches, gasping. But

she pushes Godwin away, forcing eye contact.

THANDEKA
We’ll see.

GODWIN
My terms are not negotiable.

THANDEKA
Everything is negotiable.

She reverses their positions. She grins. For a moment, Godwin *

looks as if he may argue. Until Thandeka kisses him. She
slides her hand down. And whatever she’s doing takes all the
fight out of him. She’s won.

NEW STORY DAY.

2 INT. GADIMA’S HOUSE. MORNING.

A small, but functional flat. Cheap prints adorn the walls, *

and little knickknacks are scattered across the surfaces.
GADIMA (26), beautiful, and demurely dressed, sits at a *
battered old dining table. A simple and understated GOLD CROSS
gleams at her throat. Her fiance, Cedric, sits across from
her. They pour cereal into bowls, and add milk. Cedric reaches *
across the table with both hands. Gadima takes them. They both
bow their heads.

CEDRIC
(eyes closed)
Lord, bless this food to our use, and *
us to your service. Help us to be *
strong, and to serve you. In Jesus
name.

GADIMA
Amen.

They open their eyes, and begin to eat.

GADIMA (CONT’D)
Sorry I have to work today, Cedric.
Thandeka is preparing for a big
conference.

CEDRIC
(smiling)
It’s fine. I’ve got volunteer *
outreach today. We’re handing out the *
glasses today. One Gogo hasn’t seen *
properly in 20 years. Today, we give
her her eyesight back.

GADIMA
Maybe next time I could come with
you?

CEDRIC
I’d love that.
(smiling)
Although you’d probably be bored
stiff.

GADIMA
At least we’d get to have a weekend *
together.

Cedric glances up at her quiet tone. He reaches for her hand.

CEDRIC
Hey. Things will get better... *

She stares at him unconvinced. *

CEDRIC (CONT’D) *
Once we’re married, we’ll do nothing *
but spend time together. But in the
meantime...

He nudges her, prompting her. Gadima gives him a smile.

GADIMA
We work, work, work...

CEDRIC
So we can save, save, save...

GADIMA *
... and pay lobola and have a *
beautiful wedding...

CEDRIC
...and build a beautiful house...

GADIMA
...and fill it with beautiful
children...

They grin at one another. *

CEDRIC
And live happily ever after. As one
big, happy family.

He gives her a quick peck on the cheek, and exits. For a *

moment, Gadima watches him disappear, her smile fades an *
expression of longing on her face. *

3 EXT. MXONGO HOUSE. SWIMMING POOL / GARDEN. DAY. *

THANDEKA, dressed elegantly outfit, sits on a sun lounger *

beside the pool. She’s absorbed in some paperwork. GADIMA,
demure in an austere ONE-PIECE SWIMMING COSTUME, splashes in
the shallow end of the pool with PHILILE (girl, 6) and LUNGELO
(boy, 8).

LUNGELO
Philile! Get her!

Lungelo jumps on Gadima’s back. Philile clings to her front. *

They’re laughing hysterically.

PHILILE
I got her Lungelo! I got her.

GADIMA
(Laughing, playing it up)
Thandeka! They’re drowning me. *

Thandeka glances up, and grins.

THANDEKA
Sorry. When you’re on the clock,
they’re your problem.

Gadima laughing, slowly sinks beneath the surface, forcing the *

kids let go. Gadima swims a little way from them, and then
pops to the surface.

GADIMA
Ha! I win!

LUNGELO
No you don’t! We’re going to get you
again!

Gadima holds up her hands.

GADIMA
Wait! Wait! I have a peace offering!
How about some hotdogs for lunch? *

PHILILE
Yay! Hotdogs!

GADIMA
(teasing)
But only if you let me go. Deal?

LUNGELO
Deal!

Laughing, Gadima swims to the side of the pool. She hauls

herself out of the pool, and stands on the side, squeezing the
water out of her hair.

4 EXT. MXONGO HOUSE. PORCH. CONTINUOUS. *

Godwin, unnoticed, stands and watches. We see Gadima as he

does. The curve of a breast, as she arches her back and runs
her fingers through her hair. The sunlight, glinting off her
understated CROSS. The tip of her tongue, as she licks a water *
droplet from her lips. The goosebumps on her thighs, as the
cold air hits her. Loose and unaware. Young. An object of
lust.

Back to Godwin, as he watches with a smile. He steps off the

porch, and towards the pool. On his way, he plucks a ROSE from
the garden.

5 EXT. MXONGO HOUSE. SWIMMING POOL / GARDEN. CONTINUOUS. *

THANDEKA catches sight of GADIMA, shaking the water off. *

Thandeka watches her with a slightly envious smile.

THANDEKA
Oh, to be 26 again.

GADIMA
Sorry?

THANDEKA
I’m just saying. Enjoy that body
while you can. Once you have kids,
it’ll never be the same again.

Gadima glances down, suddenly shy. GODWIN enters, smiling.

GODWIN
Hello family.
(quietly)
There’s nothing wrong with your body.

He turns to Gadima with a grin.

GODWIN (CONT’D)
Tell her, Gadima.

Gadima, caught in the middle, starts to giggle. The mood is *

light and playful. Gadima covers herself while Godwin hands *
Thandeka the rose.

GADIMA *
Sorry. I can’t get involved. I’ve got
hungry children to feed.

GODWIN
Coward!

GADIMA
Diplomat! A coward runs, a diplomat
talks.

Laughing, Gadima heads off. Godwin, unnoticed by Thandeka, *

watches her go. He settles onto the lounger beside Thandeka.

THANDEKA
You’re home early.

GODWIN
I just had to hand over payment to a
supplier.

Thandeka smiles, and then glances down at her paperwork. *

GODWIN (CONT’D)
What are you doing?

THANDEKA
Prep for the empowerment conference.

GODWIN
Ah. My little keynote speaker. When
do you leave? *

THANDEKA
Monday. 3 days in the beautiful town
of Sasolburg.

The kids frolic loudly in the pool, drawing the attention of

both their parents. Thandeka laughs.

THANDEKA (CONT’D)
(gesturing to the kids)
You’re going to have your hands full.
Sure you can cope?

GODWIN
(haughty)
I am a highly respected businessman,
overseeing a workforce of thousands.
I think I can handle two children.

Lungelo dunks Philile, and she starts to cry. She lashes out
at Lungelo, who laughs, and dunks her again.

GODWIN (CONT’D)
I am in so much trouble.

THANDEKA
(laughing)
Yep.

Godwin turns to Thandeka, a speculative gleam in his eye.

GODWIN
Maybe we should ask Gadima to sleep
in while you’re away.

Thandeka mulls it over for a moment, her eyes on the very

energetic children in the pool.

THANDEKA
I’ll ask her.

A moment, and then Godwin smiles.

GODWIN
And if she can’t do it, I’m packing
the kids into your luggage.

THANDEKA
(teasing)
Wimp.

GODWIN
You’re the one running away!

They grin at one another. Thandeka turns back to her papers.

Godwin smiles.

NEW STORY DAY

6 INT. GADIMA’S HOUSE. MORNING.

GADIMA and CEDRIC dress for church. Gadima dresses

conservatively, in a long skirt, long sleeves, and a head
wrap. Cedric wears a formal shirt. The look a little old-
fashioned, but very neat and respectful. Gadima sits on the
bed, tying her head-wrap.

GADIMA
How do I look? (A Beat) Cedric, how *
do I look? *

Cedric turns to glance at her.

CEDRIC
Nice. Hurry we’ll be late for church. *

Gadima casts her eyes down. Cedric turns to a large VANITY

MIRROR, and starts knotting his tie.

GADIMA
Thandeka has asked me to sleep-in for
a couple of days. She’s going to be
out of town. Do you think I should do
it?

CEDRIC
(distracted)
They’re paying you extra? *

GADIMA
Yes. *

Cedric finally turns to face her.

CEDRIC
That would take us one step closer to *
our future. *

GADIMA *
But won’t you miss me?

CEDRIC
(laughing)
3 days. We can talk every day. I’ll *
get the car out... *

Cedric finishes knotting his tie and heads out. Gadima watches *
him go, annoyed.

NEW STORY DAY

7 INT. MXONGO HOUSE. BEDROOM. DAY. *

THANDEKA stands in front of a jammed suitcase. It’s full to

overflowing with business suits, evening wear, and shoes.
GADIMA stands in front of Thandeka’s bursting cupboard. It
teems with designer wear.

THANDEKA *
I think that’s it. Suits, evening-
wear, shoes... Am I forgetting
anything?

Discarded choices lay scattered around the room. Dresses are

draped over chairs, suits lie crumpled on the floor.

GADIMA
Not that I can think of. You’re
covered for all the events in your
itinerary.

Thandeka turns to offer Gadima a grateful smile.

THANDEKA
You really are incredible. Cedric’s *
such lucky guy. Have you guys set a *
date yet? *

GADIMA *
Not yet - but you’ll be the first to *
know. *

Thandeka packs but eyes her concerned. *

THANDEKA *
And you sure he’s the one for you... *

GADIMA *
He’s great - I love him so much... *

THANDEKA *
I so am happy for you... *

Thandeka is suddnely pensive. Concerned, Gadima reaches for *

her.

GADIMA
You okay? *

Thandeka shakes off her melancholy.

THANDEKA
Sorry. It just gets bit overwhelming
sometimes. The juggling act. Mother *
wife, business woman... *

GADIMA
(encouraging)
You make it look easy.

Thandeka gives her a grin. *

THANDEKA
It really helps, knowing that I can *
count on you.

A beat. Thandeka looks a little uncomfortable. *

THANDEKA (CONT’D) *
I don’t have a lot of women in my *
life. It’s nice to have at least one *
to talk to. *

GADIMA *
(smiling, touched) *
Too busy for friends? *

THANDEKA *
(sad) *
One of the first balls I dropped. *

A beat, as the women smile at one another. A moment of

connection. Thandeka shakes it off. She squares her shoulders,
and grabs her bag. *

THANDEKA (CONT’D)
Good luck. Don’t let my family
overwhelm you!

She dashes out. Gadima starts making her way around the room,
picking up clothing. She ends up near the window. Glancing
out, she catches sight of Thandeka and Godwin.

CUT TO:

GADIMA POV.

8 EXT. MXONGO HOUSE. DRIVEWAY. DAY. *

GODWIN hoists THANDEKA’s suitcase into her boot, and turns to *

face THANDEKA. He reaches into his pocket, and produces a
JEWELRY BOX. He hands it to Thandeka. She pulls out a *
NECKLACE. She allows Godwin to fasten it around her neck. She *
turns, and the two move into a passionate clinch.

9 INT. MXONGO HOUSE. BEDROOM. DAY. *

GADIMA turns from the window. Her expression is a mix of guilt

and envy, as she turns back to picking up clothes.

CUT TO:

10 EXT. MXONGO HOUSE. DRIVEWAY. DAY. *

THANDEKA’s CAR speeds out of the driveway. GODWIN watches it

go, smiling broadly, lovingly. The minute the car is out of
sight, his arm drops. As does the smile. He turns to the
house.

11 INT. MXONGO HOUSE. BEDROOM. DAY. *

GADIMA hangs the last of the clothes in the cupboard. Her

fingers brush THANDEKA’s EVENING GOWN (SEE SCENE 1). She runs *
her hand over the fabric. After a beat of hesitation, she *
takes the dress out of the cupboard. She holds it up to
herself, admiring herself in the mirror.

GODWIN (O.C.)
It would suit you.

Gadima spins, startled. She sees Godwin, leaning in the

doorway, smiling at her. Gadima hastily replaces the dress in *
the cupboard. *

GODWIN (CONT’D)
I bought it for Thandeka when she was
nominated for the SA Business woman
award.

GADIMA
It’s beautiful.

GODWIN
When a man is lucky enough to find
the right woman, he should spend some
money on her. Don’t you think?

Gadima glances up. She’s wary.

GADIMA
Money isn’t everything.

GODWIN
But beautiful women should be
surrounded by beauty.

Gadima can’t quite make eye contact.

GODWIN (CONT’D)
Doesn’t your fiance spoil you?

GADIMA
We’re saving for our future.

GODWIN
That doesn’t mean you can’t have a
little fun in the present.

Godwin smiles. He steps a little closer.

GODWIN (CONT’D)
Would you like a dress like that? I
could buy you one.

Gadima’s head shoots up. She gapes at Godwin in surprise.

GADIMA
I don’t need anything that fancy. *

GODWIN
But you want it, don’t you? So why
not let me give it to you?

He gives Gadima a cock-sure smile. She balks at his

implication. Ducking her head, she pushes past Godwin.

GADIMA
(mumbling)
I have to... go.

Godwin watches Gadima go, astounded. This strategy has never

failed before.

Gadima heads toward the Guest Room, pauses and glances back. *
Godwin has moved away. She hurriedly enters. *

AD BREAK ONE *

12 INT. MXONGO HOUSE. GUEST BEDROOM. DAY. *

GADIMA sits on the bed, shocked. She absent-mindedly fingers

the GOLD CROSS at her throat. She’s dazed. Unsure what just
happened. A SOFT KNOCK sounds at her door. The door opens
softly. GODWIN enters. Gadima tenses.

GODWIN
Sorry.
(a beat)
Can we talk for a moment?

Godwin steps into the room. He maintains a respectful distance *

from Gadima.

GODWIN (CONT’D)
If I made you uncomfortable in any
way, I’m sorry.

Gadima glances away. She’s rigid, unable to look at him.

GODWIN (CONT’D)
You’ve come to feel like part of this *
family. I want you to enjoy the life
we have. That’s all I meant. Okay? *

Gadima relaxes. She finally makes eye contact.

GADIMA
Okay.

GODWIN
And again. I’m sorry.

GADIMA
It’s fine. It’s just... for a moment
I thought...

GODWIN
I know. And that was my fault. But
I’m a married man, and you’re
engaged.

Godwin smiles. Gadima relaxes somewhat.

GODWIN (CONT’D)
Friends again?

GADIMA
Friends again. *

Godwin gives her a charming little wave. He’s sheepish. She

smiles. Godwin exits. Gadima relaxes completely. *

TIME TRANSITION. LIFE IN THE MXONGO HOUSE. *

13 INT. MXONGO HOUSE. PASSAGE. EVENING. *

Gadima steps out of LUNGELO’s ROOM. GODWIN, passing, steps

respectfully to the side. Gadima gives him a shy smile.

14 INT. MXONGO HOUSE. KITCHEN. MORNING. *

PHILILE and LUNGELO sit at the kitchen table, dressed in their

uniforms. Gadima makes breakfast for Godwin and the kids.
Godwin horses around with the kids, rubbing Philile’s head,
and pulling faces at Lungelo. Godwin blows a raspberry at
Lungelo, just as Gadima serves him his breakfast. Gadima
catches his eye. She smiles. Godwin, embarrassed, returns it.
He pulls Philile into his lap, and cuddles her. It’s a
heartwarming scene.

15 EXT. MXONGO HOUSE. PORCH. DAY. *

GADIMA supervises the kids, as they do their homework. She

receives a text message. FROM THANDEKA. EVERYTHING OKAY?
EVERYONE BEHAVING? Gadima hesitates for a moment, and then
types a response. ALL UNDER CONTROL. RELAX :) She receives a
near immediate response from THANDEKA: WHAT WOULD I DO WITHOUT
YOU? :) Gadima gives a little smile, as she sets her phone to
one side.

TRANSITION. DAY TO NIGHT.

16 INT. MXONGO HOUSE. KITCHEN. NIGHT. *

GODWIN sits at the table, a WHITE BREAD SANDWICH in front of

him. GADIMA enters, just as Godwin takes a large bite. Godwin *
looks up at her, guilty. He hastily swallows. Gadima eyes the
sandwich. *

GADIMA
Didn’t you like dinner?

GODWIN
I did...
(a beat) *
It’s a guilty pleasure. I only eat it *
when no-one is around.

He opens it to show Gadima. Pink meat and oil.

GODWIN (CONT’D)
Polony and atcha.

GADIMA
(laughing)
Classy.

GODWIN
You can take the boy out of the
township...

A beat of silence.

GADIMA
Well. Goodnight.

She starts to walk away. Godwin quirks an eyebrow.

GODWIN
Now that you know my deep dark
secret... I wouldn’t mind some
company?

A moment of hesitation. Gadima takes a seat at the table. *

GADIMA
So how did a township boy end up in a
mansion in Waterkloof?

GODWIN
A combination of luck and skill. And
a determined wife pushing me along
every step of the way.

GADIMA
Your wife is pretty amazing.

He grins at Gadima.

GODWIN
She really is.
(a beat)
So what’s your story?

GADIMA
(smiling)
Township girl. Engaged to my first *
serious boyfriend. *

Godwin gapes.

GODWIN
You’ve only ever been with one guy? *

Gadima laughs.

GADIMA
I had a high school boyfriend. But *
Cedric was my first grown-up *
relationship. We started planning our *
future when I was nineteen... *

Godwin leans forward, listening intently.

JUMP CUT TO:

17 INT. MXONGO HOUSE. KITCHEN. NIGHT. LATER. *

Godwin’s PLATE is pushed to one side. GADIMA has a mug of tea. *

They’re leaning in towards each other, really connecting.

GADIMA
I’ve never told anyone this before
but... It’s like... this is the life
I always wanted... why isn’t it
enough?

GODWIN
(sincere)
I know exactly what you mean.
(MORE)

GODWIN (CONT'D)
I have everything... but something’s
still missing... *

JUMP CUT TO:

18 INT. MXONGO HOUSE. KITCHEN. NIGHT. MUCH LATER. *

GADIMA’s got her legs pulled up under her, and she rests her *
chin on her knees. GODWIN has pulled his chair around, so that
the table is no longer between them. No barriers.

GADIMA
(tearful)
I mean I love him. Cedric is a good
man...

GODWIN
But it doesn’t feel like enough? *

GADIMA
All he can see is us in the future.
And while we struggle to get there,
he can’t see me, here, in the
present.
(quietly)
I just want him to see me.

GODWIN
Want to know why he can’t see you?

GADIMA
Why?

GODWIN
(sincere)
Because you’re blinding.

The atmosphere is charged. Godwin leans forward. Slowly. Inch *

by inch. She could stop him. Finally, his lips touch hers. *
Their eyes close. A shiver of desire shoots through her.
Godwin pulls away, but only by millimeters. *

GADIMA
(weakly)
We can’t.

GODWIN
I know.
(a beat)
But I’ve never wanted anyone the way
I want you. Right now.

Gadima’s breathing grows shallow. Godwin starts to slowly pull

away. And then suddenly, Gadima’s hand is there. Pulling him
closer. And with that, all inhibitions are gone... Godwin
stands, pulling Gadima to him.

Blindly, he clears a space on the kitchen table. His hands on

her thighs, he hoists her on to the table, and fumbles with
his belt...

19 INT. MXONGO HOUSE. GUEST BEDROOM. NIGHT. *

Gadima’s CELLPHONE, charging on the nightstand, lights up.

CEDRIC CALLING. It rings through to voice mail.

CEDRIC (V.O)
(voicemail message)
Hey babe. I know you’ve probably got *
your hands full. Just... call me when
you can. I miss you. 3 days is a lot
longer than I thought it would be.
Love you.

The cellphone light blinks out.

NEW STORY DAY:

20 INT. GUEST BEDROOM. EARLY MORNING.

The bedroom is gray in the dawn light. GADIMA sits, hunched *

beneath the covers, fingering her cross. GODWIN, wakes. He *
reaches for Gadima, rubbing her back. *

GADIMA *
This was wrong. *

He pulls her into a long, slow, languid kiss. Gadima melts *

into him, before pulling away. She rests her forehead on his.

GADIMA (CONT’D)
What are we going to do?

GODWIN
I don’t know.

GADIMA
Thandeka... *

GODWIN
Shhh. We’ll deal with her. We’ll deal
with everything. Together. *

He gives her one last kiss, and then jumps from the bed.
Godwin pulls on his pants, and heads for the door. He pauses *
turning back to look at Gadima.

GODWIN (CONT’D)
I could see us together. Forever.

Gadima closes her eyes briefly. She bows her head. Godwin eyes
her tenderly, and steps from the room. Gadima catches sight of *
her blinking cellphone. She checks the screen, starting
guiltily when she spots the missed call from Cedric. She
deletes his voicemail without listening to it.

21 EXT. MXONGO HOUSE. SWIMMING POOL / GARDEN. DAY. *

GODWIN lounges by the pool, checking emails on his TABLET.

THANDEKA approaches, looking very glam in her corporate
attire.

THANDEKA
Honey, I’m home!

Godwin looks up, and grins.

GODWIN *
Hey babe. *

Thandeka takes a seat on the other lounger. Godwin can’t stop *

grinning. Thandeka eyes him suspiciously.

THANDEKA

impossible. And my wife is home. *

Thandeka smiles and then glances around. *

GODWIN
I sent her home early.

THANDEKA
Why? Didn’t it work out?

GODWIN
It was fine.
(a beat)
But... I wanted some alone time with
you. *

He grins, and raises his eyebrows. Thandeka cocks an eyebrow,

and stands. Smiling, Godwin follows.

NEW STORY DAY *

22 INT. MXONGO HOUSE. KITCHEN. DAY. *

THANDEKA readies for work, when GADIMA enters. GADIMA can *

barely meet her eyes. Thandeka greets her with a confused
smile.

THANDEKA
Didn’t Godwin tell you I was taking
the kids this morning?

GADIMA
No.

THANDEKA
Sorry. I wanted to spend some quality
time with them.
(smiling)
Remind them what their mom looks
like.

Thandeka grabs her briefcase from the table.

THANDEKA (CONT’D)

Thandeka gives her a funny look.

THANDEKA
(teasing)
Hopefully you’ll be in a better mood
this afternoon.

PHILILE AND LUNGELO come tearing into the kitchen.

THANDEKA (CONT’D)
Right, car, now!

The kids go tearing through the kitchen, and out of the door.
Thandeka follows, laughing. The minute she’s gone, Gadima
leans on the sink, her head bowed. She’s almost overcome with
guilt.

TIGHT ON:

Gadima. Eyes closed. Head bowed. Suddenly - lips at the nape

of her neck.

GODWIN
(whispering)
I missed you. *

Gadima shudders. Godwin pulls her closer. Gadima can’t help

herself. She relaxes into his embrace. Eyes still closed.

GADIMA
I missed you, too. *

Godwin smirks. She turns to face him. A long slow kiss.

TIME PASSING MONTAGE.

WEEKS PASS. The affair between Godwin and Gadima intensifies. *

beside the bed. As she goes to toss it in the laundry basket,
she pauses, puzzled. There’s a smudge of something that might
be make-up on the collar. Alarmed, she studies it. Sniffs it.
But it’s hard to tell. She stares into space, rattled. *

24 INT. MXONGO HOUSE. BATHROOM. DAY. *

Godwin pulls Gadima into the bathroom, for a steamy kiss.

Thandeka walks past in the corridor.

25 INT. MXONGO HOUSE. KITCHEN. DAY . *

Thandeka catches sight of Godwin’s phone on the kitchen

counter. She surreptitiously picks it up. Nervously glancing
around, she starts going through the messages. She scrolls
through dozens. All work related. Unhappily, she replaces the
phone.

26 INT. MXONGO HOUSE. DINING ROOM. NIGHT. *

Gadima hands Godwin a plate at dinner. Unseen By Thandeka,

their hands meet. Gadima smiles.

Thandeka and Godwin sit at the dinner table. Thandeka tries to

talk to Godwin. Godwin, smiling, is lost in his own world.
Thandeka frowns unhappily. She’s not used to being ignored.

27 INT. MXONGO HOUSE. GUEST BEDROOM. DAY. *

Godwin pulls Gadima into the guest bedroom. They’re urgent and *
desperate. They clearly don’t have much time.

CUT TO:

28 INT. MXONGO HOUSE. KITCHEN. NIGHT. *

THANDEKA sits at the dining room table, LARGE GLASS OF WINE in

front of her. A half empty bottle stands on the table, close
at hand. She’s downcast, staring into space. GADIMA bustles
in, all efficiency...

GADIMA
The kids are bathed and in bed... *

She trails off, as she catches sight of the downcast Thandeka.

GADIMA (CONT’D)
Thandeka? What’s wrong?

Thandeka looks up. She smiles, bleakly.

Gadima goes still. She struggles for control. *

Thandeka laughs bitterly.

Gadima is rigid. Terrified. Thandeka pours a glass of wine for *

Gadima. Gadima has no choice but to sit. She’s uncomfortable.
Terrified.

THANDEKA (CONT’D)
(furious)
How can he do this to me? To us!

GADIMA
What makes you think he’s cheating? *

Thandeka lifts up a LIPSTICK container. *

THANDEKA *
I found this under his passenger *
seat. She must have dropped it..it’s *
not yours right? *

Gadima takes it and looks at it. It is clearly not hers. *

GADIMA *
Hell no... *

THANDEKA
I thought not and besides, other *
small things. The way he smiles when *
he thinks I’m not looking...
(a beat)
He doesn’t touch me the way he used
to.

Gadima glances away. She can’t bare the naked agony on

Thandeka’s face.

GADIMA
He loves you.

Gadima looks at her sadly.

THANDEKA (CONT’D) *

there for them... *

Thandeka looks away. She composes herself. Gives Gadima a *

watery smile.

THANDEKA (CONT’D)
I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have forced
all this on you.

GADIMA
It’s fine.

THANDEKA
I really appreciate everything you do *
for me. I don’t think I say that *
enough. *

Gadima has to look away. Thandeka battles to compose herself. *

She reaches for Gadima’s hand. Gadima flinches, overcome with *
guilt. But she’s frozen, unable to leave. *

Gadima exits the bathroom. She dials on her phone. *

GADIMA *
Hi..(A Beat) Cedric, I need to tell *

She looks out the window, phone ot her ear. Then eventually *
she speaks. *

GADIMA (CONT’D) *

She cuts the call and slams the phone down. *

GADIMA sits on the side of her unmade bed. She fingers her
CROSS absently, as she stares into space. Her mind racing.

unwavering.

GODWIN (V.O)
(hollow, echoing)

Gadima exits. Blank-faced. She walks down the busy road, *

barely aware of the other people.

THANDEKA (V.O.)

Gadima disappears into the bustling city streets.

32 INT. MXONGO HOUSE. GODWIN’S OFFICE. DAY. *

GODWIN enters the office, and stops dead. Gadima stares at him *
with hollow eyes.

GODWIN
You nearly gave me a heart attack! *

Smiling, he bends to kiss her. But Gadima turns away. She

shoves him backwards.

GODWIN (CONT’D)
What’s your problem?

GADIMA
Who else are you sleeping with *
besides me..and Thandeka? *

GODWIN *
What are you talking about? *

She waits. He stares at her. She turns and walks out. *

Gadima turns. *

GODWIN (CONT’D) *
OK there is..was this other woman - *
nothing serious... *

Gadima is shattered. *

GADIMA *
Bastard!!! When were you going to *

He reaches for Gadima, conciliatory. *

GODWIN
Baby. She meant nothing - when the *

Gadima stares at him. *

GADIMA *

She rushes for the door. Like lightening, Godwin is on her. He *

grabs her arm.

She tries to pull free, but Godwin latches on to her other

arm. He pulls her close. He snarls. He’s fierce, frightening.

At that, Gadima goes still. All the guilt comes crashing down
on her. Her legs go weak. She sinks into the nearby chair.

GADIMA *
She trusted me! *

Godwin knows he has to play her just right. *

GADIMA (CONT’D) *
You used me.. I can’t believe I was *
so stupid! *

Godwin eyes her for a moment, lip curling in disgust. *

GODWIN *
What’s really going on here? *

She is too distraught to answer him. *

GODWIN (CONT’D)
(disdainful) *
If you wanted money, you should have
just asked. It’s not like I haven’t
paid for it before.

Gadima gapes at him.

GADIMA

GODWIN *

Tight on a hand, stuffing cash into a deposit envelope. The

envelope is fed into the atm. The hand grabs another envelope.
Another wad of cash is fed into the ATM. *

GODWIN (V.O.)

been having an affair. True, she
might divorce me. But I don’t really
lose all that much. You on the other
hand? She’d make sure you never got
another job.

GADIMA, looking shaken, walks away from the ATM. *

Gadima enters. She considers and removes from her handbag one *
last wad of cash. She stands and stares at herself in the *
mirror. *

She ignores it. *

34 INT GADIMA’S HOUSE BEDROOM. DAY. *

GADIMA is frantically packing. Her cell signals an SMS. She *

reads it: *

SORRY LOVE! ON MY WAY HOME *

She packs more urgently. *

GODWIN *
Are you’re sure you want to do the *
right thing..? *

She considers her wad of cash. Tears roll down her cheeks. *

GODWIN (V.O.)
You’re quite sure you want everyone *
to know what a cheating, lying *
hypocrite you are. *

She grabs the cash. She paces not sure what to do with it. *
She rushes into the bathroom. *

Moments later, she exits. She grabs her suitcase. She picks up *

smiling, happy. *

CEDRIC steps into the bedroom. He freezes. *

CEDRIC gapes in shock at the large bedroom mirror. There’s a *

message scrawled across it in lipstick.

ANGLE ON:

Message: BUY THE PERFECT FUTURE. LIVE IT WITHOUT ME. DON’T TRY *

And on the counter beneath the mirror? A WAD of R100 bills.

The flowers slip from Cedric’s hands, as he tries to process
