1 Introduction
One of the most helpful reference resources for Rhino is the full Command List provided by
McNeel, which lists every command in alphabetical order.
This document refers to a handful of the most helpful commands.
2 Helpful Commands
Move
Move objects from one location to another.
➡️
Copy
The Copy command makes duplicates of the selected objects.
➡️
Rotate
The Rotate command rotates objects around an axis perpendicular to the current
construction plane.
The rotation plane is based on a picked point and the construction plane of the active
viewport.
➡️
Rotate3D
The Rotate3D command rotates objects around a specified axis in 3-D space.
➡️
DupEdge
The DupEdge command creates curves from the selected surface or mesh edges.
Scale
The Scale command changes the size of selected objects uniformly in the x, y, and z
directions.
➡️
Scale1D
The Scale1D command changes the size of selected objects in one direction.
➡️
Explode
Break objects down into components.
➡️
Join
The Join command connects objects together to form a single object.
Join turns lines into polylines, curves into polycurves, surfaces and polysurfaces into
polysurfaces or solids.
➡️
Hide
The Hide command conceals selected objects from view.
Isolate
The Isolate command hides all objects except the currently selected and locked
object.
Isolate
The Show command re-displays all hidden objects.
Mirror
The Mirror command creates a mirror-image copy of objects.
➡️
Flow
The Flow command re-aligns an object or group of objects from a base curve to a
target curve.
Use the Flow command to map a flat, straight shape to a curved shape, since it can
be easier to draw things when they are lined up than to draw a complex shape around
a curve.
➡️
Length
The Length command reports the length of curves or edges.
Lock
The Lock command sets the state of selected objects so they can be seen and
snapped to, but cannot be selected for editing.
Align
The Align command lines up the bounding boxes of objects.
➡️
Trim
The Trim command cuts and deletes selected portions of an object at the intersection
with another object.
➡️
Split
The Split command divides objects into parts using other objects as cutters.
➡️
Line
The Line command draws one line segment.
Circle
The Circle command draws a circle from a center location and a radius.
Rectangle
The Rectangle command draws a closed rectangular polyline.
➡️
Extend
The Extend command lengthens or shortens a curve.
➡️
Offset
The Offset command copies a curve so that all locations on the copied curve are a
specified distance from the original curve.
➡️
Patch
The Patch command fits a surface through selected curves, meshes, point objects,
and point clouds.
➡️
ExtrudeCrv
Drive closed planar curves in a straight line.
➡️
ExtrudeCrvAlongCrv
The ExtrudeCrvAlongCrv command creates a surface by tracing the path of a curve
along another path curve.
➡️
ExtrudeSrf
Drive surface edges in a straight line to create a solid.
➡️
Loft
The Loft command fits a surface through selected profile curves that define the
surface shape.
➡️
Make2D
The Make2D command draws object edges and outlines in one or four views as flat
curves on the World Top plane.
➡️
Cap
The Cap command fills planar holes in objects with planar faces.
➡️
Boolean Split
The BooleanSplit command splits shared areas of selected polysurfaces or surfaces
and creates separate polysurfaces from the shared and unshared parts.
➡️
Boolean Difference
The BooleanDifference command trims the shared areas of selected polysurfaces or
surfaces with another set of polysurfaces or surfaces.
➡️
3 Visualisation
You can then save any view you like to named views
To make a turntable animation, you can click on the Animation tools button and then select Set up
360 degree turntable animation.
3.7 Snapshots
Add a ‘Snapshots’ panel by right clicking on any of the tabbed panels on the right-hand side and
selecting the ‘Snapshots’ option.
Saving a Snapshot captures object positions, layer states, display modes etc. This can be used for
animation and illustration purposes.
