Profit Loss and Discount

1. If The selling price of an article is 7/5 of the cost price, then find the gain percent .
2. If the cost price of 18 chairs be equal to the selling price of 16 chairs, find the gain or
loss percent.
3. The marked price of a water cooler is Rs. 4, 650. The shopkeeper offers an off –
season discount of 12% on its marked price and still gains 10%. Find the cost price of
the water cooler.
4. Hema bought two pairs of jeans for RS. 725 each. She sold one of them at a gain of 8
% and the other at a loss of 4 %. Find her gain or loss percent in the whole
transaction.
5. Meera goes to a departmental store and purchases the following articles:
i) Biscuits and bakery product costing Rs. 52.50 including VAT @ 5%
ii) Cosmetics costing Rs. 165 including VAT @ 10%
Find the total amount paid for VAT. Also, find the total original cost of
articles.
6. A girl buys lemons ar 4 for RS. 3 and sells them at 5 for Rs. 4. How much percent
loss or gain does she make?
7. By selling a book for Rs. 258, a book seller gains 20%. For how much should he sell
the book so that his gain is 25% ?
8. If 8% VAT is included in the price of a TV, then find its original price, if it is bought
for Rs. 12, 960
9. Shally bought 100 hens for Rs. 80 each and sold 20 of these at a gain of 5%. At what
gain % must she sell the remaining hens so as to gain 20% on the whole transaction?
10. Reena goes to a shop to buy a radio, costing RS. 2052. The rate of value added tax is
8%. She tells the shopkeeper to reduce the price of the radio to such an extent that she
has to pay Rs. 2052, inclusive of value added tax. Find the reduction needed in the
price of the radio.
11. By selling 150 hens, Raghav lost the S.P. of 10 hens. Find his loss percent.
12. Joseph purchased an L.E.d T.V and paid Rs. 23,600 including GST. If the selling
price of the LED was Rs. 20, 000 , how much GSt (in %) has he paid?

15. Ravi bought some cricket balls at Rs. 250 for four balls and sold them at Rs. 340 for five
balls. Find his gain or loss percent.
16. Ravi bought a leather coat costing Rs. 900 at Rs. 990 after paying the VAT. Calculate the
rate of VAT charged on the coat.
17. A fruit seller bought bananas at the rate of Rs. 45 per dozen and sold them at the rate of
Rs. 45 per 10 bananas. Find his gain or loss percent.
18. During a monsoon sale, a shop offered a discount of 10% on the marked price of all items.
What amount was paid by a customer in order to buy a saree marked at Rs. 1450 and two shirts
marked at Rs. 850 each?
19. A man sold two tables for Rs. 2970 each. On one he gained 10% while on the other the lost
10%. How much percent did he gain or loss in the whole transaction?
20. How much a shopkeeper must mark his goods so that after allowing a discount of 25% on the
marked price, he gains 20%, if the cost price of the goods is Rs.20, 000?
