Physics Project

S. Harshini's project discusses friction as both a friend and a foe. It provides examples of how friction helps with walking and writing but also causes wear on tires and forest fires. The document also explains how to increase friction by making surfaces rougher or increasing mass, and how to decrease friction by making objects more streamlined or using lubricants.

FRICTION AS A FRIEND
WALKING:
Friction helps us to walk by
acting between the ground and
the soles of our shoes

WRITING:
Friction helps us to write by acting between the nib of the pen
and the surface of the paper.

FRICTION AS A
FOE
WEARING OUT OF TYRES:
Friction causes wear and
tear of tyre and other
moving parts of machine

FOREST FIRES:
 Forest fires are caused due to the friction between tree branches.

INCREASING
FRICTION

MAKING THE SURFACE ROUGH:

Friction can be increased by making the surface in contact
rough

BY INCREASING THE MASS

OF THE BODY:
Friction can be increased by
adding more mass to the object in
contact

DECREASING
FRICTION

BY MAKING THE BODY STREAMLINED:

Streamlined body help decrease the friction and move with
ease

BY APPLYING LUBRICANTS:
Lubricants form a layer on the surface in contact thus not
allowing the hills and valleys of the surfaces to interlock.
