Objective: SWBAT to count and ask about objects in the classroom using basic English.
Materials Needed:
2. Flashcards with numbers (1-20) and common classroom objects (e.g., book, pencil, desk, chair, etc.)
Have a brief discussion about numbers in their native languages to create a connection.
Show flashcards with numbers (1-20) and have them repeat after you.
Show flashcards with common classroom objects and say the names out loud. Encourage students to repeat
after you.
If possible, bring in real objects from the classroom and have the students name them in English.
Use gestures and body language to help convey the meaning of the words.
Write numbers 1-10 on the board and say them out loud, then have the students repeat.
Point to objects in the classroom and ask the students to count them in English.
Encourage them to use complete sentences, e.g., "There are three chairs."
Teach the students how to ask simple questions, e.g., "How many pencils are there?"
Pair up the students and give each pair a set of small cards with object names written on them.
One student asks the other, "How many [object]s are there?" and the other student responds.
Instruct the students to write the correct number next to each object.
Assign simple homework, such as writing down the names of objects they find at home and counting them.
