FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

How should I send you, my documents?
Or by email: Please email scanned copies of all of your documents to jagdeep@prominetec.com in the first
instance. In most cases, the scanned copies will be sufficient to support your application.
When providing scanned copies of your documents, please ensure that:
• they are saved in PDF format, rather than JPEG or any other format (if possible);
• they are in colour, where the original document is in colour;
• there is a MAXIMUM of one document per scanned page (e.g. do not scan two different passports onto
one page).
We will notify you if we require hard copies of any of your documents before lodging your application, or if the
DHA requests hard copies during the processing of your application.

Can the information I provide be disclosed to any other Government agencies or third parties?
When you lodge an application with the DHA you thereby consent to the DHA disclosing certain information that
you have provided (including your personal information) to other Government agencies, where such disclosure
is permitted or authorised by the relevant legislation (e.g. the Border Force Act).
For example, disclosure may be required to verify the authenticity of documents provided in support of an
application or to authenticate your identity; for data matching purposes; or to administer or enforce the law
(including migration law).
Please refer to the DHA’s Privacy notice (https://immi.homeaffairs.gov.au/form-listing/forms/1442i.pdf) for full
details regarding the circumstances in which information may be disclosed to other Government agencies or
persons. We recommend that you read this document carefully and contact us if you have any further questions.

What is a CoE? How do I obtain one from my education provider?
The Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE) is a certificate issued by your education provider to confirm the details of
your enrolment. You will need to complete the formal enrolment process and pay any required fee deposit before
your CoE is issued.
As referred to above, we are able to assist you with the enrolment process. This includes preparing the relevant
application forms, identifying what supporting documents are required by your provider, and lodging the
enrolment application on your behalf.
We will also liaise with your provider throughout the process, and check that the CoE issued is correct and meets
the relevant subclass 500 visa requirements.
NOTE: If you are in Australia, you may provide a letter of offer at the time of your visa application, in lieu of a CoE. However,
you must supply your CoE(s) before your visa is granted. Students who are sponsored by the Australian Department of
Foreign Affairs and Trade or the Department of Defence, secondary exchange students, and postgraduate research students
who are required to remain in Australia for the marking of their thesis may also provide alternative supporting documents.
We will notify you if this is relevant to your application.

How do I demonstrate my English language proficiency? What English language tests are accepted by the DHA
If you hold a valid passport issued by the UK, USA, Canada, New Zealand or the Republic of Ireland (and you are
a citizen of that country), you do not need to provide further evidence of your English language ability. If you do
NOT hold a passport from one of these countries, and you are not otherwise able to demonstrate your English
language proficiency, you may need to provide evidence that you have obtained an acceptable English language
test result.
The DHA accepts the following English language tests in support of subclass 500 visa applications:
• International English Language Testing System (IELTS Test)
• Test of English as a Foreign Language internet-based test (TOEFL iBT)
• Pearson Test of English Academic (PTE)
• Cambridge English: Advanced Test (CAE)
• Occupational English Test (OET)
Your test must have been carried out during the TWO years before your application is lodged.
The exact test result that you require will be determined by the type of test that you take, and the course of
study that you intend to undertake in Australia. We will notify you of the exact requirements for your application
once this is determined. Please contact us for further details.
NOTE: If you have undertaken schooling at an education institution at which the mode of instruction was English, you MAY
not require a formal English language test. Generally, you must have carried out at least 5 years of schooling in English to
meet this alternative requirement (although this will vary if due to your age you have not yet completed five years of formal
schooling).

What is the Genuine Temporary Entrant requirement? How can I show that I satisfy this requirement?
All subclass 500 visa applicants must demonstrate that they intend to stay in Australia temporarily in order to
complete their course(s) of study. This is called the Genuine Temporary Entrant (GTE) requirement.
The DHA asks that you provide a personal statement addressing your ability to meet this requirement. If your
statement is not in English, you must also provide a translation.
Your statement alone will not generally considered to be sufficient evidence of your ability to meet the GTE
requirement. You should also provide any evidence or information that supports your stated intention to stay
temporarily in Australia. This could include:
• Evidence of your current (or recent) employment e.g. payslips, employment contract, resume, details
of a referee who can confirm the circumstances of your employment;
• Evidence of your previous study e.g. academic transcripts showing qualifications achieved, certificates
of attainment, resume.
NOTE: If there has been any gap in your studies where you did not maintain your enrolment, you should explain
the reason(s) for this in your supporting statement;
• Evidence of your financial, family or social ties to your home country (or country or residence). This
needs to show that you have significant incentives to return home;
• Documents showing any business and employment activities that you have conducted during the last
12 months in your country of residence (or home country). This could include your income tax
return/bank statements;
• Potential employment offers (including salary and other benefits) in your home country/country of
residence, or any other country outside Australia, once you have completed your course(s).

What level of funds do I require? How do I show that I have access to sufficient funds?
The level of funds that you are required to have access to is set out in the attached Funds Required information
sheet. Please refer to this document for full details of the amounts that you must show (or declare) that you will
have access to whilst you are studying in Australia.

I am under 18 years old. How do I organise my living arrangements in Australia?

If you are under 18 years old, you need to provide evidence that your parents/legal guardians OR your education
provider have made suitable arrangements for your welfare in Australia.
Generally, your education provider will make arrangements for your accommodation, support and general
welfare during your period of intended stay in Australia (or until you turn 18, whichever happens first).
However, if your parents/legal guardians wish, they can make alternative arrangements for your welfare while
you are in Australia. You will require their express written consent to the relevant welfare arrangements, which
must also meet the DHA’s requirements. Please contact us if you would like further details.

What is OSHC? How do I obtain this?
Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) is a health insurance policy that covers your period of intended stay in
Australia. You must obtain cover for the entire validity period of your visa. Any family members included in your
application must also be covered.
There are several providers of OSHC in Australia. Generally, your OSHC will be arranged by your education
provider. However, if your provider does not arrange OSHC, we can apply for cover on your behalf.
NOTE: OSHC is NOT required by Belgian, Norwegian and Swedish students covered by their countries’ respective reciprocal
health care agreements with Australia.

WHERE TO SEND YOUR DOCUMENTS

High-quality, colour-scanned copies should either be provided through by email to jagdeep@prominentec.com
as soon as practicable. As mentioned above, scanned copies of your documents will generally be sufficient to
support your application.
Should we require hard copies of your documents for any reason or should the DHA request hard copies during
the processing of your application, we will notify you and provide instructions on how to send us these
documents.
