1. Define projectile motion
2. List down four assumptions in deriving the equations of projectile motion
3. Why the horizontal motion of a projectile is constant?
4. What is time of flight as used in projectile motion
5. Derive the equation for maximum height of a projectile H.
6. At which angle of projection will projectile have maximum range?
7. A particle is projected with an initial velocity Vo of 48m/s directed at an angle of 38o
with the vertical. Find
(i) the position of the ball after two seconds
(ii) the magnitude of the particle velocity after 2 seconds
(iii) the direction of the ball after 2 seconds

8. Define trajectory

9. Show that the trajectory of a body projected with an initial velocity Vo at an angle 𝜃
to the horizontal is a parabola

10. Give three practical application of projectile motion at your locality

11. Two stones are projected with same velocity V at an angle 𝜃 and (90-𝜃). If H and H1
are greatest heights in the two paths, what is the relation between R1, H and H1?
( Ans 𝑹𝟏 = 𝟐(𝑯𝟏 + 𝑯) )

12. A man standing in an open track moving at speed of 30m/s throws a stone at 10m/s
in the same direction as the track at an angle of 45o
(i) How far does the stone travel in the horizontal direction? (Ans 53.4935m)
(ii) If the man throws the stone in the opposite direction to the track. Find the
horizontal distance covered by stone. (Ans -33.08644m)
Assume the man is projecting the stone as the same level to the ground on
the track.

13. A fighter plane flying at an altitude of 1.5km with a speed of 720km/h passes
directly over ant-air craft gun. If the gun is fired when the plane is directly over

head, at what angle from the vertical should the gun be aimed to hit the plane
given the muzzle speed is 600m/s?
At what minimum altitude should the pilot fly the plane to avoid being hit?
(Ans 𝜽 = 𝟕𝟎. 𝟓𝟐𝟖°, 16326.37m)

14. A projectile is fired at a speed Vo and elevation 𝛼 from a point A and reaches the
ground at a horizontal distance C meter from A. prove that 𝑉𝑜 = 𝑔𝐶𝑐𝑜𝑠𝑒𝑐2 ∝

15. Find the velocity and direction of the projection of a particle which passes in
horizontal direction just over the top of a wall which is 68m distant and 20m high.

(Ans 39.049m/s , 𝜽 = 𝟑𝟎. 𝟒𝟔𝟔° )

16. A ball is thrown horizontally with a speed of 14.0m/s from a point 6.4m above the
ground. Calculate:

a) The horizontal distance traveled in that time (Ans 16m)

b) Its velocity when it reaches the ground. (Ans 17.928m/s)

17. A boy throws a stone at an angle 50o above the horizontal with a speed of 12m/s
towards an incoming car. The car is approaching the boy at a constant speed of
8m/s. if the stone is to heat the car at the same height at which it leaves his hand,
what is the maximum distance the car can be from the boy when the stone is
thrown? (Ans 29.47m)

18. Your traveling in an open car. The car is moving at a constant velocity of 25m/s
along a flat ground. You throw a tomato straight upward at a speed of 11m/s. how
far has the car moved when you get a chance to catch the tomato?

(Ans 56.1m)

19. An Olympic basketball player shoots toward a basket that is 6m horizontally from
him and 3.05m above the floor. The ball leaves his hand 2m above the floor at angle
60o above horizontal. What must be the velocity of projection (Ans 8.69m/s)

20. A snowball rolls of a barn roof that slopes downward at an angle of 40o. the edge of
the roof is 14m above the ground and the snowball has a speed of 7m/s as it rolls
off the roof. How far from the edge of the barn does the snowball strike the
ground? (Ans R = 6.93m)
