b. S-Show one part of a whole.
c. A-Share with others.

Learning Competency: Visualizes and identifies ½ and ¼ of a whole object (M1NS-IIIb-72.1)

II. Subject Matter

A. Topic: One- half of a whole
B. Reference: Mathematics I Learners Guide, K-12 Mathematics Curriculum Guide
C. Materials: symmetrical objects and cutouts, crayons, colored chalk, manila paper, marker
D. Value: Sharing to others
E. Subject Integration:
 ARTS- Identifies different lines, shapes, texture used in drawing A1EL-Ic
 Identifies the shape and texture made from objects found in nature and man-made objects
A1EL-IIIb
 HEALTH- Distinguishes healthful from less healthful foods – H1N-1a-b-1
 ESP – Nakapagpapakita ng pagmamahal sa pamilya at kapwa sa lahat ng pagkakataon
lalo na sa oras ng pangangailangan - ESP
III. Procedure
A. Preparatory Activities
1. Drill/ Review
Flash cards of different shapes - A1EL-IIIb / A1EL-IIc
Group Game (Each group will name as many objects as they can with the given shape.)
Group 1- circle Group 3- square
Group 2- rectangle Group 4- triangle
The group with the most number of correct names wins.
2. Motivation
Show picture of a girl sharing her food to her classmate to draw the attention of the pupils the
value of sharing.

Then ask: What do you see in the picture?

Who among you is like the girl who shares her “baon” to others?
What do you think is the best food for you and your classmates? H1N-1a-b-1
Can you give me an example of healthy foods?
Who among you gives paper to your classmate? ESP
What do you feel when sharing what you have to others?

B. Developmental Activities
1. Presentation
Show a square and then ask: How will I divide this square if I want to have two equal
parts? Fold it into 2 equal parts as the children observe. How many equal parts are there?
Touch each part as the children.
Explain that each part is 1 of 2 equal parts or one half of the square. The write ½ and say
this is a “fraction”. Write it on the board and have the children read it.
Point to each of the fractions as you explain, the symbol, “/” tells us that the whole shape
was divided into equal parts. The “2” below the line tells us that there are 2 equal parts. The “1”
above the line tells us that we are talking about 1 of the 2 equal parts.

1 1 of the 2 equal parts

2 2 equal parts

2. Group Activity
a. Activity A
Color half of the following shapes and write ½ on the other part.

b. Activity B
Draw different shapes of objects. Divide them into 2 equal parts, shade one part,
then write ½ on the other part.

c. Activity C

Encircle the shape that is divided into equal parts.

Application
C. Give the pupils papers to cut. Let them cut different shapes, fold them into 2 equal parts and paste
one part. Let them describe their work.

IV. Evaluation
Color ½ of each figure.
