My name is Aleksandar Timotic and I am a countertenor/altus.

I was born in Nis, Serbia to a very loving family of non musical parents. Regardless of this fact, I am grateful
to have them because not only they recognised my passion and talent for music from a very young age, but
they have also been supporting me unconditionally to pursue my dream in music ever since. At the age of 8 I
started developing an interest in the violin which I continued to play until I finished my high school in my
hometown. During all of this process I discovered that I could better express myself musically through
singing. To follow this newfound interest of mine I started taking vocal lessons in my second year of high
school. Consecutively I was willing to take this passion of mine for singing to the next educational platform
which was the musical academy of Nis. Unfortunately I got rejected for 2 years in a row, the reason being I
was not talented enough. Thankfully my family kept supporting me and convinced me to go abroad to pursue
this dream of mine, although we did not have much financial means, like most of the balkan families. After
some time of searching I finally got an admission at the conservatory in Lugansk, Ukraine. I was taken under
the wings of one of the biggest coloratura soprano Julietta Yakubovich, who has since become a mother
figure to me musically. Despite of the marvellous beginning, I had to leave Ukraine in 2014 due to the war in
Lugansk. Due to my previous language knowledge, it was only logical that I continued my musical study in
Belgorod, Russia. Being there opened many doors of new opportunities for me, of which I had the chance to
join the Belgorod Philharmony Society and/or to sing at many different concerts at many famous venues to
name a few. Despite of all my success as a baritone in the last year of my study, I was not satisfied with my
singing and I had the longing to do more. I decided to pay a visit to one of the most amazing professors in
Moscow, Tatjana Baschkirowa. With her help we discovered my real voice as a countertenor together, which
was a life changing experience for me. After a few months I performed my debut as a countertenor singing
the Mezzopartie in Martin Palmeris’ “Misa a Buenos Aires” in Belgorod. I went on to win an international
singing competition at the Kremlin Palace in Moscow in 2017. After this chapter of my life, I decided to
come back to my home country and join the Opera studio at the National Theatre of Belgrade. During this
time I performed Bersteins’ “Chichester Psalms” in Belgrade and Pergolesis’ “Stabat Mater” in Russia. I
started to notice my love for barrock music, which I did not get to perform a lot in my home country. In 2019
I then decided to move to Germany and continue my Masters Study at Folkwang University in Essen under
Professor Martin Wölfel, who molded me to be who I am today and has since been one of the biggest
influences in my career. After a month of starting my study at Folkwang University I had the opportunity to
perform as Oberon in the university’s depiction of A Midsummer Night’s Dream by Benjamin Britten.
Regardless of the recent pandemic in 2020, I thankfully was able to strive professionally to have my first
debut as Alessandro in “Tolomeo” by Händel at the Theather in Lübeck. Following this I had my biggest
engagement in this season at the Bavarian State Opera in Munich for their production of “The Nose” by
Shostakovich. Nowadays I am preparing a concert with three solo oratoriums from italian barrock music
repertoire and one new production of a Midsummer Night’s Dream.
