DAILY LESSON LOG OF M10GE-IIi-1 (Week Nine-Day One)

School Grade Level Grade

Teacher Learning Area Mathematics

Teaching Date and Time

Objectives must be met over the week and connected to the curriculum standards. To meet the objectives,
necessary procedures must be followed and if needed, additional lessons, exercises and remedial activities may
I. OBJECTIVES be done for developing content knowledge and competencies. These are assessed using Formative Assessment
Strategies. Valuing objectives support the learning of content and competencies and enable children to find
significance and joy in learning the lessons. Weekly objectives shall be derived from the curriculum guides.
A. Content Standards
The learner demonstrates understanding of key concepts of circles and coordinates
geometry.

B. Performance Standards
The learner is able to formulate and solve problems involving geometric figures on the
rectangular coordinate plane with perseverance and accuracy.

Learning Competency: Graphs a circle and other Geometric figures on the Cartesian plane
(M10 GE II i – 1)
C. Learning Competencies/ 1. Determine the centre and radius of a circle;
Objectives 2. Graph a circle in standard form; and
3. Demonstrate patience and accuracy in graphing circles on a Cartesian plane.

II. CONTENT
GRAPH OF A CIRCLE

III. LEARNING RESOURCES Teacher’s guide, learner’s module, reference books.

A. References
1. Teacher’s Guide pages
2. Learner’s Materials pages Pages 258 – 264
3. Textbook pages
4. Additional Materials from
Learning Resource (LR)
portal
B. Other Learning Resources
IV. PROCEDURES
Working in pair, the teacher instructs the students to answer Activity 1 “Find My Center
and Radius”

Given the standard form of a circle, determine its center and radius. Then answer the
question that follow.
1. x2 + y2 = 22
A. Review previous lesson or
2. x2 + y2 = 62
presenting the new lesson
3. (x – 2)2 + (y +3)2 = 52
4. (x+3)2 + (y – 1)2 = 42
Question:
a. How did you determine the center of each circle? How about the radius?

The teacher lets the students realize that in graphing a circle on a Cartesian plane, one
B. Establishing a purpose for
must know how to determine the center and radius of a circle. The student must also
the lesson
realize the importance of following the steps in graphing circles.

By partner, Using The problems in Activity 1: Find My Center and Radius, the teacher asks
the students to graph the circle on a Cartesian plane. The teacher will then instruct the
students to draw the graph of the circle using their compass.

C. Presenting examples/ Question:

instances of the new lesson a. How did you graph the circles on a Cartesian plane?
b. What difficulty you have encountered while graphing the circle on a Cartesian
plane?
The teacher discusses the steps on how to graph circle on a Cartesian plane.
Steps:
1. Determine the center (h,k) and Radius r of the circle.
2. On a Cartesian plane plot coordinates of the center on a Cartesian plane.
D. Discussing new concepts 3. Draw the radius of the circle.
and practicing new skills #1 4. Using your compass, construct the graph of the circle.
(Pivot point of the compass on the center of the circle and the marking point on
the end of the radius)

The teacher demonstrates the process of graphing circles on a Cartesian plane.

The teacher will give another example to ensure understanding of the students.

Graph the equation (x – 2)2 + (y – 3)2 = 32

Steps:
1. Determine center and radius.
2. On a Cartesian plane plot the center.
3. Draw the radius of the circle.
E. Discussing new concepts
4. Construct the graph of the circle using your compass.
and practicing new skills #2
Answer Key:
1. C: (2, 3) , r = 3
2 -4. The teacher must illustrate the circle on the board.

By pair, the teacher will instruct the students to graph the circle defined by the equation ;
F. Developing mastery (leads
(x – 3)2 +(y + 5)2 = 72.
to formative assessment 3)
The student must perform the task following the step by step process.

G. Finding practical
applications of concepts
and skills in daily living

The teacher emphasizes that in graphing circles one must know how to determine the
center and radius of a circle.
To make accurate graphs a compass must be use.
H. Making generalizations and The students should know the steps in graphing circles.
abstractions about the Steps:
lesson 1. Determine center and radius.
2. On a Cartesian plane plot the center.
3. Draw the radius of the circle.
4. Construct the graph of the circle using your compass.

The teacher lets the students answer individually the formative assessment on page 263 –
264 of the Learners Module. Activity 4: Always at This point!, numbers 1 to 4 only.
