“Moves, Adds, and Changes” 7

The Key Challenge in Enterprise Networks

• Future fiber requirements can be unpredictable, additional fiber
may be required:
o In existing network locations
o To new locations within a building

• Additional fiber installations must:

o Integrate seamlessly with existing plant
o Minimize disruption to everyday building operations (e.g.,
transport, healthcare, manufacturing)

• Traditional cable-only installations mean accessing the same

challenging rights-of-way every time new fiber is required

General - Corning (L4)

Why Enterprise MicroDucts? 8

FLEXIBLE
• Easy routing to distributed network locations
• Simple, cost-effective moves, adds, and changes (MACs)
• Accommodate technology changes with ease, e.g., remove and replace
cables for transition from MMF to SMF

SCALABLE
• Install what’s needed today and limit capital investment
• No need to predict future bandwidth requirements
• Eliminate unnecessary installation, termination, and testing of dark fiber

SMART
• Permanent, protective, living pathways enable end-to-end cable jetting
• Eliminate future disruption and limit mid-span entries
• Ideal for challenging, 24/7 environments including manufacturing,
healthcare, and transport hubs

How are Enterprise MicroDucts Used?
Example: Transitioning Through Multiple Buildings

• Pathway requirements differ from building to building – some applications are riser-rated, some plenum-rated
• Enterprise MicroDucts can be transitioned/coupled in MicroDuct Distribution Boxes (MDBs) for a seamless system
• The same indoor/outdoor micro cables can be installed in each type of pathway
• Fiber is installed in a “home run” with no need to splice at each transition point

• Different MicroDuct
materials and bundle
combinations combine to
create one seamless
system
• Indoor/outdoor-rated
micro cables enable end-
to-end fiber jetting

Enterprise MicroDucts
Use in Enterprise Applications
• MicroDucts bundled under an oversheath
• HDPE version for outdoor use only (OSP)
• Riser, plenum, or LSHF variations offer fire-retardance
for indoor use
• Product variations offer total design flexibility

Features
• Low friction linings
• Internal ribs for optimal jetting performance
• 20 AWG locate wire in HDPE/OSP for direct burial
• Ripcords for easy access

200-micron Ribbon Splicing

• Preferred – Splice using 200-micron

pitch splicers (both AFL and Sumi 200µm 200µm
have units to achieve this)

• Alternative – To use a standard 250-

micron pitch splicer a “pitch-out”
using 3x4 handlers is needed (both
Sumi and AFL splicers have this
option)
