CHAPTER 1

An overview of work immersion is given in this chapter. Additionally, the

characteristics of a good employee and the work immersion curriculum guide will

be demonstrated.

INTRODUCTION TO WORK IMMERSION

According to the guidelines established by DepEd Order No. 30 signed

at the 5th day of June, 2017, enclosed for the implementation of the K-12 Basic

Education Program by Republic Act No. 10533 (RA 10533) for the Work

Immersion in all strand in senior high school namely: Academic Track (ABM,

GAS, HUMSS, STEM, and TVL). The fact that the word “immersion” in K–12

actually has two meanings could cause confusion. The first definition relates to a

necessary SHS subject in the curriculum. The second interpretation speaks of a

preferred method of delivering Tech-Voc subjects rather than a specific subject.

The word “immersion” appears in the Specialized Subjects of the tracks

(Academic, Technical-Vocational-Livelihood or TVL, Sports, and Arts and

Design) in the Curriculum Guides available on the DepEd website. When it

comes to the Academic Track, Work Immersion / Research / Career Advocacy /

Culminating Activity (WRCC for short) is the ninth required specialized subject for

the Accountancy, Business and Management (ABM), Humanities and Social

Sciences (HUMSS), and Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics

(STEM) strands. Immersion is just one of four options available under this

category. Although WRCC is not included in the General Academic Strand

(GAS), certain schools may still require it because two electives may be selected

from different strands (Cruz, 2015). However, due to COVID-19, the program has

been suspended. Relaunching modular classrooms, DepEd supported the

introduction of physical immersion in face-to-face classrooms in continuous and

incremental development to increase active school engagement and prepare for

various service delivery situations. Work Immersion is one of the courses

required for graduation. A senior high school student must complete Work

Immersion in an industry that is directly related to the student's post-secondary

plan. Work Immersion exposes students and familiarizes them with a work-

related environment relevant to their field of specialization, thereby improving

their competency. Specifically, students can: (1)learn relevant and practical

industrial skills from industry experts and workers; (2) appreciate the importance

and application of the principles and theories taught in school; (3) improve their

technical knowledge and skills; (4) enrich their communication and human

relations skills; and (5) develop good work habits, attitudes, appreciation, and

respect for work. These prepare students to meet the needs and challenges of

work or higher education. It allows students to learn and improve their abilities in

teamwork, communication, attendance and punctuality, productivity and

resilience, initiative and proactivity, judgment and decision-making, dependability

and reliability, attitude, and professionalism. It helps the students to have a

positive attitude about work and sharpens their skills so that students are ready

for whatever road they may pursue in the future (Barba, 2023).
DepEd, believes that partner institutions will provide learners with Work

Immersion opportunities, workplace or hands-on experience, and additional

learning resources, it added. The agency said schools may partner with

recognised institutions or organizations to come up with because the kids are still

minors, DepEd, says Work Immersion requires parental permission. This

immersion is done outside. The school grounds, depending on the student's

chosen strand/course. This activity will help students familiarize themselves

relates to their intended job's aim. Their course should focus on the actual field.

This is a terrific head start for those of students who have yet to decide whether

their selected course will lead them to their dream jobs. Some of students, still

have questions about their futures if they will pursue their selected degrees.

However, as someone who acknowledges the significance of this programme,

DepEd truly wants to emphasize that the necessity of job immersion must be

considered as a critical point of providing students with an opportunity to

strengthen their skills by interacting with real-world situations. This is the

absolute peak of the high school senior programme; it enables students to obtain

information and experience that will help them advance as professionals.

Furthermore, students that took part in work immersion programs reported

having better interpersonal and communication skills, as well as high self-

perceived work potency and competence in their assignments (Dela Cruz, 2020).

Overall, students believe that work immersion is a valuable experience

that can greatly benefit one’s personal and professional development. If this

program is followed, students will be proficient in their areas of interest. They will
possess the necessary knowledge and abilities to support the Philippine

economy, especially in the area of human resources (Magno, 2018).However,

another study has shown that the students still suffer from negative

consequences when they learn a wide range of skills. Social interaction and skill

development, where students have learned some of the things they’ve learnt in a

real working environment. But every student had their own burdens, such as

managing their finances, time, and travel from the place where they worked to

the place where they lived (Salvador, 2018).The programme has produced three

results. First, students have a better understanding of the job due to their

interaction with the environment in which they are immersed. Second, improving

their professional skills and seeing room for improvement as they believe that

there is sufficient skill. Skills that improveincluded their listening and question-

asking skills. Lastly, students can realize the importance of educational in

classroom knowledge due to its application to different practices and work

polices (Ador et al., 2023).

QUALITIES OF GOOD EMPLOYEE

Communication Skills

This is the most important requirement that an employee must have. No

organization needs an employee who chatters incoherently and pays less

attention to disseminating information. Every ideal employee understands the

importance of good communication and how badly things can go when

information is unclear or missed. Inaccurate and inappropriate employee

communication can cause many problems within the company and with

customers.

developing a logical solution. In order to be able to think critically are varied and

include observation, analysis, interpretation, reflection, evaluation, inference,

explanation, problem solving, and decision making.

The value of a self-confident employee is a little underrated. Without

confidence, human performance is relegated to untapped potential. Without

confident employees, there is no action and no influence.

Teamwork

Group work leads to learning. People have their own abilities and

strengths. When the entire team works as a unit, everyone has the opportunity to
learn from each other. This process leads to the creation of resources and allows

the team to be better prepared to face new challenges.

Leadership

Strong leadership is critical to an organization’s competitiveness

because it drives change and innovation. The best leaders keep an eye on

changing directions in their industry, promote new ideas from within their

company and bring in innovative thinkers.

important things a employee can do. It helps ease tensions and conflict, fosters

trust, and improves effectiveness.

success, creating a more productive work environment. By showing that you
