soda in school. Juice, Vitamin Water, iced tea, etc. are permitted at lunch,
but we ask that water be the only beverage consumed in the classrooms,
due to the potential for spills. THIS INCLUDES HOT OR COLD
BEVERAGES FROM STARBUCKS, DUNKIN’ DONUTS, ETC., Also, there
is no gum chewing allowed in school at any time, with the exception of
standardized testing weeks, and then only during the test session itself.
Also, students should not be consuming and sharing candy in the
classroom. Many students have been bringing gum and/or soda and/or
candy to school despite many reminders and have been consuming them in
the classrooms and sharing these items with other students. Going
forward, they will be taken away and not returned. Students may also
receive a conduct referral or detention if they continue to bring these items
to school.

Dear 8th Grade Parents,
The Archbishop has invited students who will be 9th graders next year and will be attending a
Catholic high school within the Archdiocese of Hartford to participate in the 2024 AAA
(Archbishop’s Annual Appeal) Tuition Grant Essay Contest. The essay is a wonderful
opportunity for your children to explore stewardship through the Archbishop's Annual Appeal.

Our 8th graders were lucky enough to get a head start, as they wrote this essay last year. I have
posted the requirements and research resources (outline, revising and editing) on Google
Classroom for those who need to edit it or start from scratch. Students should take special note
of the 500 word requirement and revising assignment #3, which will help students whose essays
are too long.

I am happy to work with anyone who needs some help in revising their essay.
Here is a list of schools that are included:
1. Academy of Our Lady of Mercy, Milford
2. Canterbury High School, New Milford
3. East Catholic High School, Manchester
4. Holy Cross High School, Waterbury
5. North West Catholic High School, West Hartford
6. St. Paul Catholic High School, Bristol
For submission, students are asked to attach a copy of their essay to the assignment on the
top of the LA page and complete the cover page that is attached to that assignment. I will print
them off shortly after the due date of February 15th and send them off to Bloomfield.
Please let me know if you have any questions!
Thank you,
Ms. Seidl
