REFLECTION PAPER: Sa Duyan ng Sining

The documentary film ‘’Sa Duyan ng Sining’’, features the Filipino artists Levi Celerio, Lucio
San Pedro, Leonor Orosa-Goaquinco, Kidlat Tahimik, and Julie Lluch. They talked about their
lives before and after becoming artists and their definition of art, especially how art inspired
them.
First, let's talk about Mr. Levi Celerio, despite thousands of songs he couldn’t earn from most of
his songs. He chose to be quiet even though his songs were copied without his permission.
Indeed, he lost nothing from what happened but gained more recognition. He was awarded in
the Guinness Book of Records for playing music and knows how to write lyrics for more than
4,000 Filipino folks. Also, he was awarded the title of National Artist for Music and Literature
Movie titles 1997 by Philippines President Fidel Ramos.
Second is Mr. Lucio San Pedro, he's popular for his contributions to the field of Philippine music
such as the lullaby. He composed so many different types of music including symphonic, band,
vocal, choral, theater, chamber, and movie.
While Mrs. Leonor Orosa-Goaquinco, she believed that all Filipinos are talented, but there are a
lot of factors including the lack of support, and funds for music, costumes, and props. She was
known as a Trailblazer, the mother of Philippine Theater Dance, and became a great
choreographer. She received numerous awards, including the Patnubay ng Sining at Kalinangan
Award.
Moreover, Mr. Kidlat Tahimik, there are still a lot of artists who are afraid to come out and
accept their true calling as an artist. The reason for this, there are still cases of Filipino artists
who were discouraged from pursuing art because of no money in it. That’s why this is the reason
he works more not as an artist but as a researcher. He received various awards in the Philippines
as a national artist and a great filmmaker, following his successes in Europe and the U.S., and
even with the precarious situation in the Philippines,
Lastly, Mrs. Julie Lluch has been duly recognized. Among her awards are: The thirteen Artists
Award given by CCP, Outstand Citizenship in Art given by the City of Iligan (1992), Most
Outstanding Woman Artist awarded by Quezon City Government (1995), Sining at Kalinangan
Award sa Araw ng Maynila, given by the City of Manila (1997). For her excellent work setting
high standards in the field of Philippine sculpture and for enhancing women’s position in our
society. She helped form the feminist group Katipunan ng Kababaihan para sa Kalayaan
(KALAYAAN) together with women writers, and activists.
After I watched the video I appreciated our artists and became inspired by their experiences to
their journey. I am the type of person who loves to travel a lot and capture the moment by taking
pictures of it. This is part of an art.
