Proclamation No. 1001 s. 1972 and aims “to give

letters.” The Order of National Artists is the highest
award conferred by the President of the Philippines to the
nation’s artists.

Fernando Levi Celerio Fernando Poe, Jr.


Amorsolo
The country had its first National
Artist in Fernando C. Amorsolo. The
official title “Grand Old Man of
Philippine Art” was bestowed on
Amorsolo when the Manila Hilton
inaugurated its art center on January

Fernando Poe, Jr. Poe was born in Manila on August 20, 1939. After the death
