Be Summer 2018

This document appears to be an exam for a course on Analysis of Mechanisms and Machine Elements. It contains 5 questions asking students to define and explain various mechanical engineering concepts related to kinematics, stress and strain analysis, joints, pressure vessels, and shafts. The questions cover topics like centrode of bodies, kinematic pairs, inversions of four bar mechanisms, virtual work principle, stress-strain relationships, riveted and welded joints, D'Alembert's principle, thick-walled cylinders, and shaft design. Students are asked to calculate values like stresses, strains, efficiencies and diameters given data in the questions.

Subject Name:Analysis of Mechanisms & Machine Elements
Time:10:30 AM to 01:00 PM Total Marks: 70
Instructions:
1. Attempt all questions.
2. Make suitable assumptions wherever necessary.
3. Figures to the right indicate full marks.

(iii) Kinematic chain
(iv) Inversion
(c) In a four bar chain ABCD, AD is fixed and is 150 mm long. The 07
crank AB is 40 mm long and rotates at 120 r.p.m. clockwise, while
the ink CD = 80 mm oscillates about D. BC and AD are of equal
length. Find the angular velocity of link CD when angle BAD =

When do they occur? How are they determined?
(b) With the help of neat sketch explain kennedy’s theorem. 04
(c) A mild steel rod of 12 mm diameter was tested for tensile strength 07
with the gauge length of 60 mm. Following observations were
recorded: Final length = 80 mm; Final diameter = 7 mm; Yield
load = 3.4 kN and Ultimate load = 6.1 kN. Calculate : 1. Yield
stress, 2. Ultimate tensile stress,
3. Percentage reduction in area, and 4. Percentage elongation.
