3 - Solid Mechanics - I-I

1. The document contains 5 practice questions for a final exam in Solid Mechanics. The questions cover topics like normal and shear stresses on arbitrary planes, principal strains, relationships between elastic constants, stresses in triangular dam walls, and yield criteria for shafts under bending and torsional loads. 2. Question 5 asks students to determine the diameter of a steel circular shaft subjected to a bending moment of 400Nm and torque of 150Nm, using Tresca and von Mises yield criteria. 3. Students are also asked to explain Haigh Westergaard stress space and the associated flow rule.
